  • BORING!!!!!!!!!

  • BORING!!!!!!!!!

  • is that a colt detective special?

  • Not a bad video I guess. Needed to cover some more actual etiquette, especially since you've got a revolver sitting right there.

3 more simple things not to do:

Don't point the gun at your salesman, they get pissy.

Learn how to use the slide lock/release, don't just press down on the release to snap the slide forward as it damages the weapon (rounds the indent in the slide and will cause mousetrapping).

Never spin the cylinder of a revolver and snap it closed, it damages the weapon.

  • I submit that the title of this video is misguided, if not oxymoronic.

There is simply no such thing as could be remotely called "etiquette" practiced in gun stores, at least not any I've been in. Which is to say that gun stores tend to be populated almost exclusively by old curmudgeons and douchebags. Both sides of the counter.

  • Educate and encourage. Being snobbish does not help the community.

  • Thanks for the video. I am just starting out and your comments are well taken. Showing proper respect for the weapon even if not loaded is the right thing to do. I was at a gun store last night and heard some stupid comments and handling a weapon that made no sense. I understood your comments and what you were saying. thanks

  • @walterwhiting He more then likely cleared them before the video, he even made a remark about. Well obviously the cleared, and for such a gun guy you calling a magazine a clip makes me believe you dont have one or may have one and not several

  • conciseness is definitely not your friend

  • the story you told about your friend hitting the slide release and the guy freaking out makes me think the guy either had no idea about handguns or he just wanted to be mad at someone. i'm not an expert but i know the difference between a slammed slide and a dry fire. if the firing pin sounds like that somethings wrong. lmao!!!

  • murppppp

  • when you initially picked up the weapon, you did not remove the clip and open the slide to really make sure it was not loaded before you dry fired it. not very smart. please do not ask to pick up one of my weapons.

  • im glad the navy gives us the m9 instead of the glock and when i go FBI im getting a revo

  • I like to go "pew pew pew" when the clerk hands me the pistol. Just kidding. Good video, these things should be common sense to everybody.

  • @TheAwsumSammich LOL ,,,Newbies have no common sense so this is a good vid for the few that find it. I enjoyed the video even tho I taught Chuck Norris everything he knows.::))))))))

  • Good vid you got the point across. There is nothing worse than a dumbass in a gun shop, it is a place that requires respect.

  • digging the revolver

  • Good video. I think people should watch this before going to a gun store. I'm new to guns, but I think this would have helped. Not that I acted like a dumbass or anything.

  • On second thought, as I watch more of the painful stuff, I think that at responsible thing to do would be just take this video down. I really don't think you have '"message."....if you know what I mean. This is just nothing more than rambling bullshit. I would suggest you take up some other endeavor, or at least something that you know something about.

The whole video is very juvenile.

  • Bad! What a waste of time.

  • For what it was meant to be, not a bad video and most excellent excellent and patient replies to hostile criticisms.

  • @MrDein thank you sir...no point in wasting my time responding to hostilities... i prob will redo this video, i have a experience in public speaking now, and i can just take all the criticism into account to better myself...thanks for the constructive comment though

  • Makes me cringe when someone dry fires a gun...

  • @DailyIdeas I've heard its not all that bad. Not good obviously but not as bad as most people think

  • dont slam the mag into the mag well.

  • @AuraStudios Why on earth not?? That is how the gun is designed to work and that is how anyone trusting their life to seating a magazine the first time should do it. Unless you have a cheap pos gun it won't hurt a thing.

  • @Platinum1812 well, as long as it's pointed in a safe direction, theres no problem. and i mean SLAM the mag in. it's more of a 200% precaution for AD for guns without drop safeties. sounds reasonable to me.

  • this was bad

  • aren't you supposed to release the slide so it goes back in its normal functioning motion? why would you ease it back?

  • Did anyone actually make it through 10 minutes of this? lol

  • DUDE ! This vid REALLY BLOWS THE BIG CHUNKS ! You need to get your ACT TOGETHER so you DON'T WASTE OUR TIME WITH YOU SORRY INCOMPETENCE as you TRY TO TEACH SOMEONE ELSE PROPER GUN ETIQUETTE ! AND WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT ...YOUR DAMN OPINION ABOUT ANYTHING ! Proper gun ettiqutte is a STANDARD NOT BASED ON OPINION ! Stop all videos... IMMEDIATELY ! !

  • Gun shop etiquette: watch?v=JJRLoGYtkEM

  • After the gun store clerk hands me the pistol to handle,I start racking the slide, real fast,

and dry firing it, or if its a revolver, I open the cylinder, spin it real fast, then slam it back in, or try to spin it on my finger like a cowboy, finally when they get mad and grab it from my hands, I like to lean towards them , like the Terminator and say, I'LL BE BACK!

  • ROFL. by riding the charging handle or slide of a firearm you are causing unnatural wear of the internals. In the military you are taught to hit the slide release or drop the slide on an empty chamber because IT DOESN'T CAUSE ANY DAMAGE.

  • mate you got to liven it up abit your as dull as a wet week end sorry

  • Senior airmen :d

  • Ok besides not staying on topic and rambling alot you were holding and aiming the xd and you placed your'e assist hand on the left side and put your finger on the front on the trigger guard. First thats not were you put your finger second if you do when you shoot you probable shot left alot finger go under the guard to support .Also when checking a weapon drop mag first then rack the slide. never never ever rack slide then remove mag ...

  • MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS VIDEO IS THE FACT THAT IF A STORE OWNER IS HANDING YOU A GUN FOR YOU TO LOOK AT, THE FIRST THING HE SHOULD BE DOING IS DROPPING THE MAG AND LOCKING THE SLIDE OPEN, WHICH YOU DIDNT DO....THAT GOES FOR ANYONE HANDING A GUN TO ANYONE !!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT IVE HAD STORE OWNERS HAND ME GUNS WITH MAG IN AND SLIDE IN BATTERY, I LOSE ALL RESPECT FOR ANY GUN SHOP OWNER DOING THIS !.....ALWAYS REMEMBER THE FIRST RULE, ALWAYS TREAT A GUN AS IF IT IS LOADED....STAY SAFE BRO.

  • Not to be a dick but you could have posted a 10 second video telling people to read proper gun safety and proper gun maintenance making this video irrelevant. Waving a gun around or dry firing fit into both of these categories and aren't really "Etiquette" it is just common sense when handling guns. People in a sporting goods store doing what you are describing shouldn't be handling guns. You should make fun of the gun store that allows stupid people to handle the guns.

  • Maybe not a huge deal, but if you could have the music at the beginning not be so blaring loud compared to the rest of the video.

When clicking on videos that start out extremely loud its not so fun when other people are around. Hey, just a tip since I know you were looking for feedback....

  • I went to Dicks sporting goods the other day and some guy was pointing a Remington 700 at me from across the store. WTF is wrong with people.

  • Im guessing that is your air force stripes?? If so..... if you wanted to play with more guns you should have joined me in a mans branch of service.....The Army...HOAH!!

  • @mks11962 I find it highly doubtful you have served in any branch, due to the fact your on here attempting to talk "smack" on any branch.

  • Funny video.

  • Your a GOD! Guns stores are afraid of you.... Na really tell the truth, you have no friends and you made all that shit up.

  • is it me or on that pistol when the slides back the barrel kinda points up?

  • @jdincc1 You're correct, that's because it is a modern service pistol. The barrel "floats" in the machinery of the slide over the guide rod and recoil spring, when the slide is cocked back, pressure on the block at the back of the barrel cocks it up so that the next round should feed easily into the chamber from the magazine. This explanation is simplistic for space purposes.

  • OMG! Who cares what you had for lunch at Applebees? This video should have been edited down to about 1 minute.

  • If I may make some constructive criticism; please take into consideration that people perusing YT videos can be deterred when they click on a ten minute video and the first minute is taken up with extraneous detail like complaining about your dinner. Please keep it tight and relevant and you will hold the attention of your viewer. If I didn't care, I wouldn't take the time to comment. Thanks.

  • Too meit sounds like he could not be fucked doing it

  • Metal and guns, gotta love it.

  • USAF!

  • You sound like a dick.Tell me something, when you are in the market for a house, would you not inspect every nook and corner of the house, and when you find a good house, wouldnt you say "this house is freaking awesome"? that is not being stupid and it definitely does not make you look like a dumbass. Guns are the same. All these idiots you keep refering to are first time gun owners. The first time you handled a gun, you were the "idiot". Give respect and show them why it is not a good practice

  • Constructive criticism here: A public speaking class would make this video many times better. It's not a bad video at all, but the presentation made it tough to give you the attention you deserve.

  • whats the gun he is handling called?

  • @benwhit3 Springfield Armory 3", but I cannot tell which caliber.

  • Its a good idea for a video. Actually a really important topic. But remake it and be concise, on point, and to the point and I think you'll get great reviews.

  • thought the trigger thing was called a trigger reset

  • his thumb placement was incorrect in this video, not saying he does it all the time. right thumb over left.

  • I got yelled at by some random hick guys at gun shows for not riding the slide forward, last time i checked they were not active duty infantry officers like me... annoying as shit when someone tries to act like they know so much but haven touched a m249

  • While this is an old video.. it would make somebody interested in getting into shooting even more intimidated to walk into a gun store knowing little or nothing. Not everybody knows what they want, how to hold a gun, what not to do, etc.

The advice should be that if you're new, go into the store and say it up front. "Hey, I'm totally new to guns but want to learn. Do you have a new shooter safety course?" That'll get you respect, not come off as a dumbass.

  • thats a glock right? glocks are always a bad purchase. those things jam and misfire all the time.

  • @LaoDiceanable I hope you are joking.

  • @LaoDiceanable Springfield not a Glock

  • @LaoDiceanable i believe there are about 9,983,978,763,897 people in the world that would STRONGLY disagree with that

  • You might want to reshoot this video. It's too slow and too much hesitation on what you want to say. Too many pauses and ummmmm's .... You lost me in the first 60 seconds. Try again?

  • Talk faster!

  • Listening to you speak is incredibly painful.

  • @xxxxts Reading your comment is incredibly painful.

  • HAHA he said clip.

  • #1 Rule: Keep your fucking finger off the trigger. If you ask to dry fire or function check it, Then and only then do you touch the trigger. Never touch it before asking one of those questions.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah man i have a friend who owns The Armory gun shop where i live and he says alot of people are dumb and have no common sense when they handle guns at the shop

  • @saints360row well, thanks for the input, and i will always take constructive criticism, but yeah, you kinda make yourself sound like an idiot when you post a hate comment on a year old video. i don't doubt the fact thearmorychannels was better, but i def wasn't mimicking it. and about the credit card thing, that was all the ex wife, but I'm sure you wouldn't understand that. but i don't mean to be offensive or anything..........

  • @firinglinechannel -No. It's fine. I know how women can be. And I never said you were mimicking theARMORYchannel. I said when you try to mimic idiots at a gunshop you sound like an idiot yourself, or that's what I meant.

The other part, when I said irresponsible, I meant not confident and too much stuttering/pausing - You should get your thoughts on paper before you record. The irresponsible part was mainly at the credit cards, for credit cards should only be used in extreme emergencies.

  • @firinglinechannel -But I guess if you're mimicking an idiot you should sound like an idiot at that time. ;-)

  • @firinglinechannel Hardly hate, and hey, the video is still up so if he just watched it then it was new to him, just like it is new to me today.

  • @firinglinechannel "and uh ya know go the thing but uh yeah uh but you know" Think about what you want to say before you say it. Prepare a little.

  • next time script your video cause you dont realize the stupid shit you talk about or how many times you say umm or repeat what you already said just for future videos

  • @saints360row I was going to say the same thing. he copied that guy. plus this guy was probably kicked out the military. They do function checks after you break the weapon down then reasemble it because active duty guys who left high school and join as an 11B with a 31 are likely to reassemble it incorrectly.

  • Can someone please tell me why every Gun Range Commando tells me I need at least 4 clips for each of my semi-auto's

  • @Dion1957 your really, don't need more than 2-3...however the more you have the better. i like to have at least 4-5, or more, just to have...you can't have too many in my opinion...its more of a preference thing i guess...

  • @firinglinechannel dont mean to intrude in the conversation but in my opinion the original 2 that usually come with the gun and maybe a spare will be ideal to have for a handgun. The reason i say this is because that way you can take your time reloading each and every single mag at the range and enjoy every minute of it and at the same time you give a chance for the barrel of your gun to cool off a bit by taking your time to reload each one. instead of having 6-7 preloaded one after another.

  • @firinglinechannel

Its not a "preference" thing. Its a "being prepared thing." Unless by preference you mean I "prefer" to be prepared. ;)

  • @Dion1957

I'm not sure about the gun range commandos, but the reason I like to have a few extra magazines is so I spend more time shooting. Four or five magazines allows me to focus on training and not loading magazines. I stay more focused on my training when I can shoot more than 15-30 rounds in one go. With five mags I get 75 rounds. It's also not uncommon to need more than two to practice reloads for USPSA/IDPA competition.

  • @Dion1957 Because their semi-autos are all pre-WW2, probably. Back when they were still using clips.

  • @Dion1957 You dont have to have more than 1.

however it is nice to have as many loaded clips/mags as possible so you can spend more time shooting and less time reloading.

  • @jldwolfe Took me 2 trips to the Range to figure that out. Now I have 10.

  • @Dion1957 If you are doing the National Match Course or National Gallery Course, having four magazines is helpful. You load two (five rounds each) for your slow fire stage. Afterwards, you load four (five rounds each) for your timed and rapid fire stages. You could do it with only one (having to reload the magazine in the time between strings), but you would be best with at least two. Seriously though, four (or six) is better.

  • @Dion1957 you dont sometimes its nice to load ahead of time though

  • @Dion1957 I agree with what you're saying (I think) Depends on what you mean by "clips" Did you mean to say "magazine?"

For example, if a person owns an AR15, they may have way more "clips" than magazines, because clips can store ammo that can easily be loaded into a magazine. So, it all depends what you are referring to. Keep in mind that saying "clips" instead of magazines is a dead giveaway that a person doesn't know much about guns. Not insulting you, just a reminder.

  • @Dion1957 you only need one mag, but why limit yourself...

  • @Dion1957 actually you dont even need a mag, it just helps a lot.

  • @Dion1957 Because by definition, commandos who work in a gunstore know more than you. And you do need at least 4 "mags" and no more than 1000.

  • Thank you for actually showing that your guns are clear before messing with them. Great gun safety. Thanks for serving

  • Thank you for your service GO USAF...

  • i feel like this video didnt stick to the main topic...

  • @coreybetters ok...i will take that into consideration...i should be starting up doin vids again soon....so yeah, take it easy

  • That "is it okay if I dryfire this?" dude spot on. I do not let people dryfire without a snapcap, or they are serious or a friend. My unit only live fires for drills, those men do not dryfire without a cap. To P226nut you're an idiot, your firearm is expected to go into battery without a round if your magazine does not stop the slide. Dryfiring is okay for a short while.

To the gp, always push the slide backward rather than use the slide release. Barrel ends up more straight in battery.

  • lol he said pogue....

  • Thanks

  • I liked your video, but I think you harmed your xdm more dry firing it then you ever could from letting the slide go into battery on an empty chamber.

Is there any reason you don't do this, I mean did someone ever tell you not to and if so who was it and where did they get that information?

I'm not criticizing what you do, I just want to know for sure because I do this all the time and don't want to damage my firearms if I can avoid it.

    Thanks

  • @P226nut ....i am in a combat arms now, and releasing the slide isnt bad...but dry firing isnt either, shotguns and rimfire is bad to dry fire, but as long as you dont do it over and over like crazy its fine....you actually have to dry fire to do a function check....if you need any more info just let me know...ill do a new vid on that now that i have better info...

  • Do you live on base? I'm wondering about the laws about having a fire arm on base with you.. Don't you have to check it in at the armory?

  • @PUTMEONTHEREDLIST yeah, if you live in a house on base you can have them, but when stored, you need a lock on them...for younger troops that live in dorms on base they need to be kept at the armory or at a friends house that is legally able to store it. also you cant carry ever on base, only transporting on and off base, you cant even stop at the gas station while carrying, strickly on and off....

  • @firinglinechannel thanks for the info bud

  • Cont>... Harm to the pistol, at least nobody has given me a really valid reason not to do it. As trained, it was instilled to function the pistol single handed as normal, and always, Yes finger off the trigger is very very important, regardless of safeties. One thing I also personally do always is keeping the slide in the open position, thus showing it's not in battery mode, and my revolver cylinder always open on the counter or table. Last thing, newbies should never ever look down the barrel.

  • Cont>....What I've requested, I also step back into an isle, looking at stuff, till he comes back. It's not that I'm un-trusting of people, just being cautious I guess. Having self awareness around you at all times and reading people is a good trait I think, look around a lot and see whats whats. Ok, as for dropping the slide on an empty pistol with the mag removed, I was taught to drop it as if going into battery, then dropping the hammer after and holster. I don't think it does any.... Cont>

  • Good points for sure. Every time I go to to my Fav store in the world, 'Wholesale Sports' for supplies, I always check out who's at the firearms counter before I walk up, just to check the area. If I see some newbies, so to speak, I keep an eye on them for a bit. Most times people buying gun's do follow the safety aspects, pointing the rifle at the ceiling and really paying attention to muzzle direction, makes me feel more relaxed around them. If the sales rep goes to the back for.... Cont>

  • Idea for a video: maybe do a series of videos of some of the shooting/tactical drills you were taught as part of your training. In full gear of course. :)

  • @MrAk47master yeah, ive been thinking about doing that. i just need to get some stuff so i can set up a course. but i can teach some of it without it. thanks for the input! later man

  • Cool vid man. All good points. I would add that a "good" gun store should have no problem with either letting you break down the weapon or doing it for you. So you can check the guts of the weapon. If they have a problem, maybe you should shop somewhere else. Nice pistols also. Thanks.

  • A lot of people (who are not around guns often) think they can wave guns around like toys because the guy behind the counter safety checked it... while everyone else in the store is watching and shaking their head. /John

  • every fuckin FFL i go to they sweep me with the fuckin muzzle man, it drives me FUCKIN insane, at every single one dude im not exagerating

  • Great info.

  • Great subject! Alot of it is just plain common sense when it comes to how to act in a gun store. As a customer, i am watching those that are handling the guns and i keep myself out of the way just in case it gets pointed in my direction. Always pay attention in there. Good vid man!

  • I love my gunstore, anyone can go behind the counter and pick up the rifles without asking, I hate gun stores that don't let you touch rifles.

  • The Range I worked at catered to new shooters. Lets face it, not everyone knows what they want or what feels good in their hands until they handle it. Especially if they are new to the sport! I don't consider those folks stupid at all. They are just trying to educate and make the best choice for themselves.

The whole "clip" and "mag" thing doesn't bother me one bit because I know exactly what they are talking about regardless.

  • @DangerousDude2010 Yeah, i agree with you, i like to hold a gun before i buy it too, but i like to do as much background research as i can on it...thanks for the comment man! yeah, i wasnt trying to call people stupid, but i guess thats how it came out..lol...oh well! later man

  • @firinglinechannel I was a range officer there and handled the range, ammo, target purchases and explaining the range rules to the folks coming in. I have seen just about everything stupid, believe me! Most of the offenders claimed to be "seasoned shooters". The folks that didn't shoot often were the safest out on the range. I have plenty of stories I could share...

  • @DangerousDude2010 I didn't purchase my own pistol, a 4th Gen Glock 17, until I was 25. Before that point, I virtually admitted to knowing nothing about pistol-type firearms. I've always asked questions and gotten testimonials from more experienced shooters about different brands, different ammo, different calibers, and different shooting characteristics.

Semantics Schmantics. I heard a clip is what you call the "chassis" of the thing, whereas a "mag" is the entire thing, including ammo.

  • @DangerousDude2010 I wish more ranges and gun shops were like that. What is the deal with gun shop guys thinking they know so much. Most don't. Just simple things like, "Do you have a Glock 33?" will stump the hell out of them. "Is that the GAP?" Whatever. It's snobbish people like that that run off new shooters. We experienced shooters need to wake up and make this sport more friendly to newbies. That's the only way we will ever gain widespread gun support.

  • Awesome, alot of people are STUPID when they get ahold of firearms in stores...

  • Is there documented proof that charging a auto without a round in it does anything at all? The way I see it is that thats what its designed to do and a having a round there isnt gonna provide any kind of buffer. I'd like to know cause I do it all the time as my form of function check after I break it down.

  • @TheTactical6string i just do it for piece of mind for myself. i dont think it will hurt the gun any by doing it. its all up to the person i think. i will ask around and look into it though....

  • @TheTactical6string I'm just trying to help. Dropping the slide on an empty chamber is detrimental to any 1911 style single action pistol. Without a cartridge case in the chamber, the slide goes a fraction to far and that in turn wears on the sear and hammer engagement surfaces. This will in time deteriorate the trigger pull and cause an unsafe situation with the hammer hooks. Modern weapons, Safe Action or DAO or DA, are not affected by this practice. I hope this helps, stay safe .
