  • when i bought mine i had the same problem, and thought that my cintiq was broken. but then i realized that when i used another programs like paint tool sai , or intel core painter, the pen speed was alright. so is not the cuntiq, is photoshop the problem.

  • OMG all I can do is laugh. Those guys at Adobe are clearly getting lazy.

  • why is the programm reacting so slow?

  • Nice hand. =3

  • you use gloves too??

  • Hum try to use PainTool SAI soft and you can see a very fast brush in ANY size you want ;) ! i think photoshop is not an optimized program , Adobe must rebuild this release for "drawing" artist !

  • you know, no matter how much people complain photoshop still works just fine! It depends all on the artist, like I personally get mad when the brush takes forever to finish the strokes I made. But it helps making some pretty damn good art! So no matter how much people bad talk it...it still get's the job done even!

  • Tried CS4 disabled openGL still slow compared to CS3. Lots of bugs when zooming in and out...Threw a piece of art I was working on with 42 layers and it was pathetic !!!

Sadly Adobe is starting to look like a corel Paint shop pro or Microsoft program...I think I am going to vomit !!

  • download:

    [Adobe Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 update]

It shall fix the problem. I just updated it and it fixed all the lagging problems with the brushes.

    Go to: adobe . com/downloads/

and look for: Adobe Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 update

  • Thank you !! This is what I was hoping to see happen. I downloaded the trial version, and deleted it to keep using the CS3 suite. I will still give Adobe time to tweek the suite, and then purchase. Again many many thanks for taking time to let me know :)

  • This 11.0.1 update did nothing for me. Still lags on 6 gigs of ram and a quad core.

  • This is NOT a hardware problem, I have primitive hardware specs and I can run Photoshop CS4 smoothly after installing the 11.0.1 update.

Try this if you haven't already done so.

    Edit -> Preferences -> Performance.

Under "Gpu Settings", Uncheck: [Enable OpenGL Drawing]..

  • I have installed the latest drivers and updates, and turned off OpenGL, but it still seems to lag a little. I will have to contact adobe support.

  • @0xNEVVG3N Thank you:) It works fine for me now.

  • @0xNEVVG3N ... thanks man !! this worked for me!

CS5, Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch, HP i7 Laptop

I found that OpenGL provides some good features when it's enabled, although you can use Photoshop without OpenGL some features will be disabled.

    Try this:

Enable OpenGL Again, then download the 12.0.3 Update, which is the latest update for Photoshop CS5:

GOOGLE: "Adobe Photoshop 12.0.3 update for Adobe Photoshop CS5"

    and open the first link.

"...The Adobe Photoshop 12.0.3 update fixes a number of high priority bugs including painting performance and type-related issues..."

  • @0xNEVVG3N

thanks for your fast answer! i had the latest update for cs5 64bit, now i also updated the 32bit version. i thought maybe there is some connection. however, it had no effect.

i tried out all the advanced settings.. if i bring the dropdown menu to the "basic" setting it works fine. every other setting leads to lagging when using the tablet.

    I use a HP i7 Q720, 4Giga Ram with a GeForce GT230 - Win7 Home

Do you know what functions of PS are no longer aviable when disabling OpenGL?

  • @PoetOfLove69Kavi

If after installing the new update with OpenGL enabled you still have performance issues/slow brush then disable OpenGL again...

But if you already have the 12.0.3 update installed then just ignore this message :-)

  • The speed is fine in Gimp. :x

  • Solution 1: Turn off all OpenGL Advanced Settings. 1. Open Photoshop CS4. 2. Choose Edit > Preferences > Performance. 3. Select Advanced Settings, and deselect all the options inthe GL Settings dialog box. 4. Click OK, and restart Photoshop.

Solution 2: Turn off Enable OpenGL Drawing. 1. Open Photoshop CS4. 2. Choose Edit > Preferences > Performance. 3. Deselect Enable OpenGL Drawing. 4. Click OK, and restart Photoshop.

  • fuck off i have wacom tablet intuos 4 over 3D Go ram and and photoshop CS4 and it's so fucking slow when i am painting so i can't beneficate the feauter of my tablet cause it's compatible with cs4 i am using cs3 now and i cant rotate the imaga around as i can do in cs4

    fuck you adobe :(

  • i have touch pc to but dont know where to buy a pencilthat wont damage my pc

  • you dont exatly need an touch screen for that theres a seprate tablet for that

but it just might smouge it or just dont press hard with it

  • I recommend changing the OpenGL GPU settings in preferences or turning GPU Accelleration all together.

  • I've noticed the same problem as well. I've found the only solution is to lower the size of the canvas (10000x10000 --> 2000x2000), sketch, then enlarge it (which results in blurred lines).

Sadly there's not a whole lot you can do to fix the problem, it's not a matter of your computer's processing power. It's an issue of the inefficiencies within Photoshop and Wacom's tablet drivers.

  • I have the same problem when I'm using Photoshop for a long time. Have you tried disabling show cursor? Also it would help if you listed what DPI you work in, big resolution + high dpi = very slow :(

  • Well, I only see myself using the Cintiq, if ever, for lineart, and that can be done slowly for accuracy, so the only time the lag would really be bothersome is during a quick sketch.

Also, is there any pen pressure with the Cintiq? I saw none on the vid.

  • I agree. But it's strange that my slower laptop does not have such lag.

pen pressure: I used the lightest 'pencil' tool to show that the lag is not because brush is heavy.

  • Are you going to post up any new drawing video?

  • this also happends to me with all my programs

i just need to get used to it *and clean out my pc*

    do you have a deviantart account ?? : D

  • Are you using a Cintiq tablet ? The 21 or the 12 size ?

Anyway, quickly iterated lines have been very difficult (if not impossible) to make correctly on both tablets i had (Intuos A4 and Cintiq 12wx) :(

  • I use 21inch Cintiq, and I've been confirmed that this problem appears with my intuos2 tablet.

  • lo0ol. i smell a haterrrrrrrr.

  • Nah, just explaining the cause of our issues.

  • Oh and is the glove thing on your hand used for traditional art so that you won't smudge anything?

  • Its winter and cold !

And the glove helps me sliding my hand smoothly.

  • It's winter and cold? What kind of stupid reply is that, as if you're sitting there with no heater and the windows open lol

  • The Cintiq gets hot after using for a while and your hand begins to sweat / stick to the screen... makes smooth strokes difficult.

Not sure if you wanted a real answer or were trying to be difficult. Judging from your other responses I'd say the latter... just trying to help if you were actually interested.

  • Why would a glove avoid to smudge anything LOL it's just as bad as a hand, if not worse lol

  • well you know when you're drawing with a pencil and when you're moving your hand it tends to like...well, you know, smudge the drawing.

  • And what do you think that glove will do lol

You obviously never cleaned anything in your life now have you... let me guess, living with mommy and daddy right? lol

  • the gloves fabric will avoid smudging the drawings and, yeah so? I bet your parents kicked you out for the way you turned out to be, a jerk.

  • You're 16 years old kid, do some growing up first son... you're talking out of your ass with your anti-smudge-drawing-glove....sigh

  • sigh, whatever you're right, I'm just wasting my breath on you, I'll stop.

  • Actually, I think maybe the screen itself may get smudged.

  • Cool,so the faster you do the strokes the more delayed the reaction of the strokes are?

  • I think the reaction is constant. So the faster I draw, the larger the queue grow.
