PLEASE DO NOT READ DONT READ THIS PLEASE DO NOT READ DO NOT READ DO NOT READ swear do not read...I don't even know why I'm participating I guess I'm still a bit paranoid. But really do not read this I swear . Also thanks this was really appreciated. DO NOT READ:This is so stupid... But i love my mom deeply... And i don't want to take any chances. Sorry. If you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos your mom will die in 4 hour
@Joezeebo Well, thats cause in normal hindi...people actually do mingle english words...its just the way it is (leftovers of british imperialism, i suppose).
Also in this case, dev's family is affiliated with the british goverment and stuff due to their status (keep in mind the context was in the 1900s). it makes sense.
@Joezeebo ...plz correct ur spelling first....there is no language called indian..itz hindi..some lines are in english because the hero is educated from london(in the movie).....
basically the father said to Aish that why dont you both mother and daughter open up a brothel and srk replied by saying that even a pimp dosent advise his daughter do do that.
devdas was a long ime in London and his dad and lots of people in India speak English because in the history of India somehow England is involved....i would google it but im so mesmerized wit this movie, plus im lazy lol
I think they do it to show the status of that family. In those days, being educated in english was a great priviledge and we know devdas even studied in london so naturally the father and son would be accostomed to speaking in english. Since the dad is talking about how well ranked their family is, he probs thinks speaking in english will make it even more obvious
If you watch the film itself, after Devdas' father comes into his room and sees Devdas and Paro together and once he insults her and she runs out of his house and back to her own home. After that part Paro is confronted with her own mother Sumitra, who also knew that she snuck out to see Devdas and she tells Paro that she didn't go alone, she carried with her the honor of their family. And she asks, "Did you leave your honor behind?" Really intense and gripping scenes.
It's not morally or socially acceptable in Indian culture and in mosy cultures around the world and especially at that time for a young unmarried girl like Paro, a maiden or virgin in other words to go to see a man alone and especially in the middle of the night. Especially since she snuck into his house and was in his bedroom. They take it to mean that she has loose morals. She went there risking her reputation and honour. I hope that helps.
I agree you are stupid, if that's the only thing you can say about this incredible scene. And I really hope you did not attempt to insult Shahrukh Khan.

@Joezeebo It's not weird, it's the way they speak .
This is Hindi, and English , the 2 official national languages of India , and they often mix them while speaking.
There is no language called indian : )
There are hundreds languages spoken in India, they often are mixed with english in daily speech.
Hope that helps : )

I don get it. Why does his father/her mother get so angry about Paro comming to devdas ?
Its not like they had sex or aything ...
Peom1 4 years ago
Paro coming to devdas late at night is not right because it only shows bad intentions on part of Paro.
