  • All I can say is the blonde is looking real good @ 2:00. And the song is awesome too! Freaking 80s....can I get them back.

  • It was 58 years ago exactly when that boat scene happened. I wonder if he saw Nessie.

  • Isn't that the K3 Bluebird crashing?

  • How dare, those 25 people, vote down this video

  • Saw them live at the Ritz in New York City 86 or 87. Gorgeous show. Love this band. I can sing a long with most of their songs and still don't know what they are singing about, It doesn't matter though.

  • awesome...just awesome.

  • DARE ... one of the best 80's albums... still sounds BRILLIANT

  • The best thing about the Human League is that their image was human, not overly slick as you might have expected for synth pop. They could be warm and humourous as well as serious. This is probably why their producer Martin Rushent thought that the synthesizer would end the reign of the guitar virtuoso. The Edge, Van Halen, the hair bands and the jam bands, etc proved him wrong as if there was any doubt. Dance pop and rock continued on their separate ways.

  • fantastic song dont get much airplay great to see again must admit fav song is seconds ab brill

  • Soundtrack to my teenage years - incredibly happy years but scary and hard too!

  • What's that boat accident, anyone famous? Great song btw!

  • @59joetsjoep That was, as urban legend would have it, due to the wake of the Loch Ness Monster. Don't know who the boater was.

  • @59joetsjoep Twas Donald Campbell in the Bluebird allaways sad too see a fellow human lose his life but he had a dream & passion & followed it to it's conclusion

  • Adam Ant? I thought this was a song about politicians.

  • love love love them i cant say anymore

  • This is my favorite Human League song. I still have the 45 single that I bough when I was in the 9th grade.

  • As the ezekiel13 says... agreed. Okay, not the most intellectual band ever IMO but in terms of people credibility and awareness, they score a musical and atmospheric 10 for me.

Check out the rest. This song is the most special, if quite not the best. That's what happens when you grow up to music I guess. It's all personal right?

  • It beat todays rappers lol

  • You Rock Human League :D

  • Went through 100 AA batteries and wore out the tape listening to this one in my walkman back in the summer of '83. WOW what great memories. Thank heaven for iPods. The kids today don;t know how lucky they are.

  • one of my fave human league songs too!

btw we probs dont know how lucky we are, but you dont know how lucky you were back then too, the previous generation didnt even have walkmans lol

  • Ms ~

Well done you for your realisation; most don't - or won't - care and attack.

In London, when I was in my early thirties, to us, this was quite simply 'It'. BBC 1 and all...

Now, we're older but still appreciate the sound.

    Please see old LaserRadio recordings.

    Again, ta.

    ~~""

  • @f1diva wow wot a comment, well done

  • @utpunkster they are lucky indeed but not when it comes to the music they are growing up to, WE were lucky to have bands like these to mark our teens :)

  • Still sounds great !

  • The song is about "Adam Ant"

  • Yes you are right, the song is about adam ant who was highly publacised at the time, "Mirror Man" refering to the uk newspaper. I dont know why people thumbs you down

  • This is such a great song at a weird time in my life. Great bass lines.

  • Spectacular song and a spectauclar band from a great city that is also home to Sheffield United, one of my favorite teams. Great Job

  • I saw them last summer. They were the headliners and boy were they good. I have been to alot of show, and this was one of the best.....

  • thank you they were popular in the 80s and I like their songs.

  • They did a tour last year, The Steel City Tour with Heaven-17 and ABC performing too

  • Saw them on Sunday. Evolution Festival, Newcastle/Gateshead.

  • How was it? I saw them last year in San Diego and they were great. lots of memories.

  • Well, I would say the vast majority of people there were under 18 (me included), so it perhaps wasn't as appreciated as it might have been. Still, it was an awesome show, lots of energy.

  • Makes me remember playing with the Sinclair ZX81 for the first time. Everything was special then ...

  • Ahhh! The Human League. Long live The Human League. Long live Philip Oakey!

  • 80's rule!!!

  • wow

  • god i feel young again thanks

  • Thank you simon 1000 for explaining the video! This is one of my favorite songs and the video never made sense to me. Now it does :)

  • all is good in 80's, techno, disco, rock, heavy....

  • if they sing this and someone uploads from any v festival where they are playing east to west i will defo post on my channel. chances are they prob wont sing it . top clip tho

  • undisputed top band of the glorious 1980's

  • 80's masterpiece ☺

  • Good song, but never did figure out what an exploding boat had to do with the song.

  • The basic premise is that Oakey is a ghost of a performer who has died suddenly, and now inhabits a theatre where he reveals himself to a band (Human League) who have come to rehearse. The video is filmed on location at a deserted theatre in London. The main scenes are of Oakey in a dressing room singing to a mirror. Footage of the crash and death of John Cobb (whilst attempting to break the world water speed record on Loch Ness 29 September 1952) is spliced in with Oakey's dressing room scene.

  • Comment removed

  • lol ☺☺

  • i have this song in my mp3 =)

  • y dont people respect older songs?!?!? come on dudes, it AWESOME!!

all they want are those emo, sreamo, and hard metal songs

  • I listen to heavy metal and class myself as a metalhead. But I think Human League are epic. Most 80's music was epic.

  • Great band!

    coxynuma .66.

  • old hands pulls me meat

  • an old song pulls at your memories

  • i totally agree with u on that one!!!

  • At 1:00 I thought he was watching HP Mini laptop screen...but of corse not, it´s 1983.

  • WOW...what an MTV flashback I've just had!? Does anyone remember hearing the story about that old black & white boat crashing clip in this video? I recall that some guy was trying to break the speed record on Loch Ness and a "disturbance" in the water created by YOU KNOW WHO basically caused the crash. ????

  • yes i heard the story , as i t isone of the main stories related to "nessie"

  • awesome song, but i wish russell mulcahy had done the video so it means something. vintage 80s lighting in the video, though; thats a bonus.

  • Top tune,Thanks for the post :)

  • Great tune....and the two women in The Human League...I wouldn't mind buttering their muffins ;)

  • I remember this song from the "Wild Life" soundtrack. The movie sucked! The soundtrack was solid.

  • I like (keep feeling)Fascination, but I bought this EP for "Mirror Man".

  • good tune plus I'd bang those chicks.

  • you wouldnt if you saw what they look like nower days!

  • WTF! You are either gay or a teenager.

You obviously havent seen the blonde recently.I had my photo with her at Jones beach in August.

Look up Susan Anne Sulley on flickr!

She may be 45 now, but is still totally stunning with a hot body more toned than most teenagers.

  • You're right Adolf!

  • any relation?

  • This didn't get much radio play, but MTV would run it a lot.

  • What a tune!

  • who is the mirror man?

  • Can"t you hear a bit of Mowtown in there?....a very good song one of my favoite from the league

  • god save the League !!

  • damn song just owns so hard core nothing to comment but to add im in heaven hearing these notes

  • can someone who went to see them on tour tell me if they sang "Mirror Man"? I personally think this is one of their most well written and underrated songs.

  • I agree with your assessment on "Mirror Man". I fell in love with this one the first time I heard it. It's my personal favorite. The backup vocals (even though they're just ooohs and aaahs) set the mood for the song.

  • They opened with this at Wolftrap in Virginia (regeneration tour)

  • its the only song i know of theirs worth listenin to. brilliant

  • Yes, they sang Mirror Man on tour in

Va. Beach 2 days ago. They were outstanding as were the rest of the groups in the Regeneration Tour. I highly recommend going if they come to your area.

  • ill be seeing them in dublin on the 26th oct cant wait!!!!!

  • I saw them Aug. 11 in the Bay Area of NoCal. They were absolutely fantastic. It was one of those once in a lifetime nights where it was so authentic that it took you right back to your youth for a moment.

  • Just saw them last night in Trenton.

I have to say that I was extremely impressed

with their top-notch, fantastic, pure-live (zero playbacks) performance even decades after their debut!!! Human League is one of the few bands in the world today that can maintain their stellar live performance for such lengthy time! Looking forward to a future album release from them.

  • Just saw Human League last night in concert at the famous Cape Cod Melody Tent. They are on the "Regeneration Tour," along with Naked Eyes, A Flock of Seagulls, ABC, and Belinda Carlisle.

All are still great, after all these years!

    I had a blast!

  • did you take any clips?? I saw them in L.A and they were also Awesome, i took two clips check them out!

  • wish I had means to, but don't, so I didn't. :-(

  • oh ! U're lucky ! a band very very underestimated. Younger, (not only with the music), I was in love with Joanne ;)

  • I saw it in Boston!

  • I saw them 2 days ago in Rochester MI. still good.

  • Perhaps not the best thing to say, but everytime I hear this I think of Tom Cruise in Tittybangbang.

  • This is a great song. I think its about a person who died (on the speed boat crash) who comes back as a ghost in the theater.

  • this song is sooo soulful and great!I absolutely love the human league!

  • Lisa S wrote the lyrics to this..

  • Did she fuck, U muppet!

    Philip Oakey/Ian Burden/Jo Callis did.

    Stay off the crack

  • of all human league tunes, this one may well have held back time the best

  • cool song

  • if u have nothing nice to say dont say it

  • larva

  • intolerance is a sign of impotence

  • Human League purely and simply RULE!!!

I don't give a shit who says different.

  • I love tne lead riff :)

  • same here if you mean the lead bass line at the beginning its great. I'm going to see them August 5th in LA, cant wait!

  • so , did you go??? I was there i was able to record to videos, check them out and let me know.

  • Yes I went, they were great! I've been lazy need to upload mine too!

  • I love this band just not this particular song. I much preferred their other songs to this one. I just wish they would tour in Canada they play the US but not here.

  • good song

  • this group has good tunes, good ole teen years :)

  • Great song, takes me right back :) 5*

  • The Human League are still going strong today they are touring the USA in August. Those girls still look really cute (for 40 somethings), but Phil Oakey shaves his head now, look them up on wikipeda

  • of all the bands/artists from sheff - human league have got to be the best by a mile surely

  • i remember being about 12 yrs old at school aswll as firedrills we had a drill in case we got attacked with nukes, the drill was to get under a table ha ha ha hilarious now but scary at the time

  • All that "Protect and Survive" guff. You were supposed to block outer doors and windows, build an inner shelter from say doors and sandbags and arrange provisions for 14 days - all in 4 minutes! Like you say though scary - people worried that it would happen. The BBC made a drama called "Threads" about a nuclear strike on Sheffield - where the Human League came from!

  • Very scary stuff "Threads". They also aired it in some U.S. cities as well.

  • Threads was scary shit.

  • I've seen "Threads". Absolutely horrific. And it could have happened at any moment. I lived though the 1980s. Three minute warning, if you remember?

  • You tended to get a bit paranoid about things MowgliX. I remember waking up one morning in about 1984/5 with air-raid sirens going off around West Yorkshire - this was very scary stuff in those days and you wondered just what was happening. This continued all morning, was not reported on the local TV news and there was never an explanation. Very strange - does anyone else from the area remember this incident?

  • Where I live they tested the air-raid sirens the first Monday in every month! They don't any more, as far as I know. Maybe once or twice a year, just to see that they are still up there. A nuclear conflict would have happened exactly the way it did in "Threads".

  • I'm from Leeds, born in 68 and i remember what your talking about. No need to worry though when your under your kitchen table covered with a mattress!!

  • didnt expect to see this kind of talk here.they used to have raid drills here in the 60s..
