I entirely agree with Link to the Past being one of the best games ever made, but I fail to see how Ocarina of Time is overrated. Question: are you young?
@Zelrio28 If I was young, I would be singing OOT praises, and attacking LTTP like a noob. OOT is the most overrated game of all time. I could go through a laundry list of reasons why I generally disliked it. It's OK overall, but it failed to capture the Zelda feel, and had some really annoying aspects to it's gameplay. I've warmed up to it more over the years through multiple playthroughs, but it wouldn't even make my top 100 games of all time let alone my pick as the top Zelda game.
I bought The Darkness a few months ago and didn't get too far in it either.
Indeed, at the beginning, it feels like a plain shooter but I heard that as you go further in the story it gets really awesome (although the gameplay stays relatively the same)
I personally found the game too hard because I'm not familiar with console-FPS and I didn't quite enjoy the controls. This game is however one of the games I want to beat in the future.
Personally, I loved the Darkness in every department except the gameplay.
The story, the atmosphere, absolutely fantastic. Gameplay itself was nothing special, the thing that brought it down the most I think is that Jackies movement speed is just a bit too slow.
Still, using your powers in combat and moving close to an enemy to execute a gruesome finishing move is awesome.
Play what too often? Games? Probably. However, There are the games I played this week, but that doesn't mean that I put countless hours on them. An hour here and an hour there. Most of them I just play leisurely, but don't have time to get super far into them.
So it's not like I played each one of these from beginning to end. I don't have that much time on my hands.
I didn't find Wind Waker to be a particularly memorable game, but it's still important to me since it marked my return to console gaming after many years of PC fundamentalism.
Although I haven't played much of OOT I fully agree that LTTP is the best game in the series. OOT's presentation and controls haven't aged nearly as well as the simple but functional 2D-centric design of LTTP.
cool video, and at first when I read that you thought OOT was overrated I thought "WTF", but that does make sense. it did feel a bit empty sometimes (though not as much for me, since I was 10 when I played it). but still, nice vid.
So was it your first Zelda game? A lot of the people who came into the series at OOT hold OOT as the best, because they didn't play the series previously.
If you talk to a lot of those who played the previous incarnations, chances are, LTTP, or the original is their favorite. There may even be those who like Zelda II the best.
Yeah actually it was. That might explain it. I still <3 it in m own way, because it holds memories I'll never forget. And it was really my first 3D adventure game (discarding Mario 64). One thing that I think sets Zelda games apart though are the very unique characters. Each one really feels like they have a lot of psychological depth in them, things that they love, hate, want in life, were able to accomplish, and regret not being able to accomplish. Like real life. That's part of why I love it
In all honesty, I thought the characters on OOT were kinda dry. It wasn't until WW that they finally got some depth to them. of course, I was playing PS1 RPGs heavily at the time OOT hit, so neither the story, nor the characters were that impressive to me by comparison.
The gameplay was good, but the story was just OK. Zelda was never really known for having an in-depth story anyways.
I was also driven mad by the slow text scrolling in the game. I can read it three times before it finished
I love soldier of fortune 2 on ps2. I played through that like 2 times in a row. It is just simple, gorey fun. I played with the controller and the auto aim was a little annoying because it would jump from person to person sporadically but I got used to it. Despite the dated graphics this game was one of the funner ps2 fps I have played.
I was thinking of uploading some soldier of fortune gold gameplay recently too lol. Think I still will. I remember there is a level where you get to run around with a shotgun in africa that was really fun haha.
Sorry for the multiple comments, stupid 500 character limit per comment
I have the darkness on ps3. For me, the first half of the game was just so so, but later in the game you get some very interesting powers that make the game get a lot more fun. So, don't give up on it yet. The game has online multiplayer and I have never once seen anyone playing it haha.
The Darkness is immense, cant wait for the sequel

@RetroGamerization I doubt it will get a sequel, and if it does, it will probably not be the same game which I don't think sold particularly well.

I'd say similar things about FFVII. However, in the arguments with a certain fanboy, FFVII oddly never seems to come up. It's all Nintendo.
teh2Dgamer 2 years ago
Heh yeah, people love FF7 for the same reason
Those who played 1-6 before don't like it nearly as much
