A lot of memories came back to me upon hearing this. It was also what convinced me to buy my own PlayStation, a month before I turned fifteen. Well, in addition to Crash Bandicoot Warped and MegaMan Legends (which I got as a late birthday present).
I also remember playing Final Fantasy VIII for two straight weeks and finishing it in that much time. I think I also did at least most of the side quests, thanks to a player's guide (which I still have!).
I considered VIII as the worst of the PSX FFs, because the story lacked something for me. However when I stumbled on the Rinoa-Arutimishia theory about a week ago I just can't stop thinking about it (old as the game itself, apparently one of the FFVIIIUltimania authors denied the theory, but I can't find the exact quotation, and to tell the truth I don't give a f*ck). I'm gonna play it again soon to judge myself. If it proves to be probable, I will consider the VIII as the best story of all FF.
Remember the PS2 tech demo which used the ballroom scene as a graphics test? As I watch this I wonder to myself, "Why didn't they remake this scene instead?"
If you played the whole game, you'd realize this scene just something to hype up the player. It provided no real information upon the game. We don't even know why Squall was fighting there.
@Flowen There's a lot of things relevant about the intro, though maybe not immediately. The most obvious is the 'training' fight that puts Squall in the infirmary at the start of the game... the rest is more about symbolism and setting up themes, e.g. the field of flowers where Rinoa is waiting, is the place they agree to meet if they ever get separated. The feather floats off and later comes back in the ending sequence.
Epic Game. I remember that some days I was forcing myself at home from school, with the fresh air in the morning, just to play this fantastic game and dreaming without counting hours nor thinking about problems but just keeping myself into the wonderful story and characters... Same I did with FF7. Good old days...
@immortalwombat10 Oh, I would argue that it is, in fact, essential. If one does not breath, one will lose consciousness, and then one cannot listen to this!

@unnoticedpasserby Woah woah. You misunderstood me again. I've never said all games should be ''Mayhem games'', which isnt a fucking genre... FF8 isn't one of those genre's, its a RPG. @unnoticedpasserby I was just taking a piss out of Sephiroth's comment. And my comment was purely stupid. It just seems like a typical day dream. But it would be a great plot on a indie game. (Which was my point anyway, it would be stupid to put a indie game on a disc and impossible too)
Kinda funny how they have this epic battle with orchestra music int he background, the game itself opens with the protagonist in the school nurse's office being picked up by his teacher...
That's the reality of things... after a battle you usually wind up either in the morgue or in a hospital room... they both got lucky. But yeah, FFVIII was much more dramatic and romance driven as well as deep than the previous ones, which were simpler, but in a way, cuter.
@Phireo You have a point, but when I see a huge battle like this with a full-blown chorus blaring in the background, I expect some kind of earth-shattering event or battle...not so much a sparring practice. I can forgive it though, because almost all Final Fantasy intros after 7 are very overhyped. It's still a decent game.
The only thing that sucked in this game was Draw.. I hated, every boss fight ended u p taking an hour or two cause you wanted 100 of the new spell that each boss had for your characters, and each draw they got like 5 if you were lucky and normally "Draw failed"

Even though i was a kid back then, i remember the goosebumps and how my arm's hair shaked haha. It was by far the BEST OPENING EVER of any FF game. Period. It was amazing.
@AlyssaQistina98 That's the golden age of FF -you're missing out on a lot. If you get by the fact that the graphics are outdated, those were some of the most addicting games in the industry.
@Kurasshu88 To me FFVIII opening almost didn't made any sense, because the only Interestning part was Squall and Seifer fight, but when I get what they was just training-even this part became not interestning anymore.
@36256564874847848487 just because it wasnt interesting doesnt mean that it makes no sense. and even if it didnt, it was an opening. not the entirety of the game jammed into a cutscene. and for that matter, it does explain how seifer and squall got thier scars to start you off with the fact that they have a huge rivalry thing going on.
@36256564874847848487 Well, maybe some people have a diff defenition of making sense, no offense. like how i think that final fantasy 9 made no sense.
@riskbreakerrecca17 Look, this is just perpetuating an argument, i think its awesome that you can make sense out of that game, but i just personally didnt enjoy it, im glad you did though, however, you dont have to insult and say i dont know the meaning of life. I dont know it, and i doubt anyone does, but i do believe that it is just a question that humanity formulated to make them feel more occupied. philosophers and normal people alike have wondered what the meaning of life is. i Dont know.
@36256564874847848487 The game actually makes perfect sense if you pay attention to what's going on. Go back and play it again sometime. It's really good. o uo
@36256564874847848487 Well yeah I'm a fan of FF8. It was my favorite game, but I promise if you actually pay attention to the story, you'll know what's going on. What didn't make sense to you? Are you actually confused about the plot or are you just being a jaded asshole because you want to be?
@36256564874847848487 It's pretty awesome that you don't have any valid reasons as to why you don't understand and that all you can say when someone backs you into a corner is that they're a fanboy/fangirl as to demoralize them. Here I am trying to help you understand the game and you're just being a dick just to be one. If you didn't like the game then you didn't like it, but don't go saying you just don't understand it and then be a dick about it when people try to help.
@36256564874847848487 I didn't say that at all LOL. I said I liked the game and wanted to know what you didn't understand. Like I said it's fine if you don't like it, but it seems like you're just beating around the bush and making up lame excuses to hide the fact that you don't like the game. Is it so hard to just say it?
FF I to IX were some of the best games ever made. X was good, but it felt kinda different, and a little worse than others. The rest is the worst trash I've ever seen. From the spinoffs, Dissidia seemed awesome, while others were kind of average. Enjoyable, but nothing special. Yes, X-2 was a total trash. But that's all IMO.
most interesting characters in FF according to me: Aerith, Cloud, Tifa, Cid the airpilot, Barrett (big dangerous mofo, good heart), Red 13, Yuffi, Vincent the Vampire, Sepiroth (an insecure but very dangerous badguy) Squall (the strong silent type), Rinoa, Laguna, Seifer, Quistis, Zell, Irvine (a blowhard, but a good guy), Zidane (good spirited, charming fellow), Vivi, Steiner, Garnett, Amarant, Freya, Kuja. I need characters I can invest in, or the it just doesn't work for me.
@septimal a matter of opinion I suppose. I just thought the characters in 12 were more interesting than in 13 and I had a bigger emotional stake in them. I've had the biggest emotional connection to the characters in 7, 8 and 9. I didn't like the characters in 13, they were too flat and especially the character Hope was very annoying. I did like the fact that the main character was a woman for once, they should do that more often.
I remember when this first came out. Not sure which game is better FFVIII or FFVI. What these older games may lack in graphics, they have more than made up for it with a storyline, something newer generation games seem to have forgotten. I think its high time to dust off the super nintendo, pop in a cartridge, and play some real RPG's!
@leom233 square enix is slowly going back to storyline based RPG's. The downfall of today's video game market is trying to push a release date and focus on graphics....If they were to survey the RPG gaming community I'm sure we would say "sacrifice the graphics we need an epic tear jerking story"
@DrArticuno As long as there's still beautiful CG cutscenes and amazing and epic scenery and scenes I'd be fine with that :D and lots of content. Hamauzu is an amazing composer so I'm fine. Have an improved version of XIII's battle system and have lots of character development and replay value. That's a winner :D
@yoyoyo88665 you think VIII's battle system was good? i personally enjoyed 12's unconventional and fun... And I'd have to agree with you on the CG cutscenes. Man I miss the good old days where JRPGs could double as a movie
I love Final Fantasy. Played and finished part 7,8,9,10,12, great amusement and storytelling, but what the F happened to Final Fantasy 13. Just an action game, no character of story development as good as in the previous parts. Especially the character Hope annoyed me. I didn't even find myself interested in finishing the story, because I had no emotional connection to the characters whatsoever, and I cried when Aeris died in FF7, thats how invloved I was with the characters.
It was just a sparing match that went too far.Could have been worse, could have been like that exhibition match which turned into Apollo Creed's death sentence.
FF8 was an amazing game with amazing music but i was so confused when i first finished the game i played it years later and understood allot more about the story but i am still confused :S i have an idea ill beat it again :D

@Emily5396 I never played any PS1 FF games but this intro looks awesome!
AlyssaQistina98 9 months ago
@AlyssaQistina98 That's the golden age of FF -you're missing out on a lot. If you get by the fact that the graphics are outdated, those were some of the most addicting games in the industry.

@serenadesilhout You're right. Too bad I was born in the late 90's......LATE 90'S......
AlyssaQistina98 9 months ago
@AlyssaQistina98 I was born pretty late too, but that hasn't stopped me from playing them all.

Quite possibly the greatest and most epic game intro of all time. I can't think of one better.

setsailgilhooly 10 months ago 49
@setsailgilhooly No no,best opening to a game ever is to Parasite Eve.
36256564874847848487 6 months ago
@36256564874847848487 *u* I like both. Ff8's theme makes me feel like I'm going to die but Parasite eve's makes me feel like I'm gonna kick some ass.
Kurasshu88 6 months ago
@Kurasshu88 To me FFVIII opening almost didn't made any sense, because the only Interestning part was Squall and Seifer fight, but when I get what they was just training-even this part became not interestning anymore.
36256564874847848487 6 months ago
@36256564874847848487 just because it wasnt interesting doesnt mean that it makes no sense. and even if it didnt, it was an opening. not the entirety of the game jammed into a cutscene. and for that matter, it does explain how seifer and squall got thier scars to start you off with the fact that they have a huge rivalry thing going on.
duathadruid 6 months ago in playlist Liberi Fatali
@duathadruid Lolwut?Opening(just like whole game)didn't made any sense, only good thing In that was music and graphic.
36256564874847848487 6 months ago
@36256564874847848487 If the opening and the game didn't make ANY sense to you, you need to get your brains checked.
darlians 6 months ago
@darlians Not again...I hate fanboys.Tell me at least 1 reason why opening had to make to me any sense, but without your fanboyism.
36256564874847848487 6 months ago
@36256564874847848487 Well, maybe some people have a diff defenition of making sense, no offense. like how i think that final fantasy 9 made no sense.
duathadruid 5 months ago
@duathadruid final fantasy 9 no sense? then you dont know the meaning of "life" sir
riskbreakerrecca17 4 months ago
@riskbreakerrecca17 9 was good, but 8 will always be my favorite.
hazelXin223 4 months ago
@riskbreakerrecca17 Look, this is just perpetuating an argument, i think its awesome that you can make sense out of that game, but i just personally didnt enjoy it, im glad you did though, however, you dont have to insult and say i dont know the meaning of life. I dont know it, and i doubt anyone does, but i do believe that it is just a question that humanity formulated to make them feel more occupied. philosophers and normal people alike have wondered what the meaning of life is. i Dont know.
duathadruid 4 months ago
@36256564874847848487 The game actually makes perfect sense if you pay attention to what's going on. Go back and play it again sometime. It's really good. o uo
hazelXin223 4 months ago
@hazelXin223 Fanboy. This game made me fall asleep,so I don't think this game will make to me any sense.
36256564874847848487 4 months ago
@36256564874847848487 Well yeah I'm a fan of FF8. It was my favorite game, but I promise if you actually pay attention to the story, you'll know what's going on. What didn't make sense to you? Are you actually confused about the plot or are you just being a jaded asshole because you want to be?
hazelXin223 4 months ago
@hazelXin223 Damn, can we ALL just leave all you fanboy/girlism somewhere esle and enjoy the video!
36256564874847848487 4 months ago
@36256564874847848487 It's pretty awesome that you don't have any valid reasons as to why you don't understand and that all you can say when someone backs you into a corner is that they're a fanboy/fangirl as to demoralize them. Here I am trying to help you understand the game and you're just being a dick just to be one. If you didn't like the game then you didn't like it, but don't go saying you just don't understand it and then be a dick about it when people try to help.
hazelXin223 4 months ago
@hazelXin223 You don't have any valid reasons too.You say something like OMFG U SUCK DIS GEME DAS GREUT REPALY DAT U N00B.
36256564874847848487 4 months ago
@36256564874847848487 I didn't say that at all LOL. I said I liked the game and wanted to know what you didn't understand. Like I said it's fine if you don't like it, but it seems like you're just beating around the bush and making up lame excuses to hide the fact that you don't like the game. Is it so hard to just say it?
hazelXin223 4 months ago
@hazelXin223 I'm confused. In one comment you say that you didn't said 'that',and say 'this'.
36256564874847848487 4 months ago
FF I to IX were some of the best games ever made. X was good, but it felt kinda different, and a little worse than others. The rest is the worst trash I've ever seen. From the spinoffs, Dissidia seemed awesome, while others were kind of average. Enjoyable, but nothing special. Yes, X-2 was a total trash. But that's all IMO.

If someone played this song near me when I'm old and wrinkled I'd have an instant flashback into childhood. They don't make games like these anymore.
erettew 10 months ago
most interesting characters in FF according to me: Aerith, Cloud, Tifa, Cid the airpilot, Barrett (big dangerous mofo, good heart), Red 13, Yuffi, Vincent the Vampire, Sepiroth (an insecure but very dangerous badguy) Squall (the strong silent type), Rinoa, Laguna, Seifer, Quistis, Zell, Irvine (a blowhard, but a good guy), Zidane (good spirited, charming fellow), Vivi, Steiner, Garnett, Amarant, Freya, Kuja. I need characters I can invest in, or the it just doesn't work for me.
whackthedog 10 months ago
@septimal a matter of opinion I suppose. I just thought the characters in 12 were more interesting than in 13 and I had a bigger emotional stake in them. I've had the biggest emotional connection to the characters in 7, 8 and 9. I didn't like the characters in 13, they were too flat and especially the character Hope was very annoying. I did like the fact that the main character was a woman for once, they should do that more often.
whackthedog 10 months ago
I remember when this first came out. Not sure which game is better FFVIII or FFVI. What these older games may lack in graphics, they have more than made up for it with a storyline, something newer generation games seem to have forgotten. I think its high time to dust off the super nintendo, pop in a cartridge, and play some real RPG's!
leom233 10 months ago
@leom233 square enix is slowly going back to storyline based RPG's. The downfall of today's video game market is trying to push a release date and focus on graphics....If they were to survey the RPG gaming community I'm sure we would say "sacrifice the graphics we need an epic tear jerking story"
DrArticuno 10 months ago
@DrArticuno As long as there's still beautiful CG cutscenes and amazing and epic scenery and scenes I'd be fine with that :D and lots of content. Hamauzu is an amazing composer so I'm fine. Have an improved version of XIII's battle system and have lots of character development and replay value. That's a winner :D
yoyoyo88665 10 months ago
@yoyoyo88665 you think VIII's battle system was good? i personally enjoyed 12's unconventional and fun... And I'd have to agree with you on the CG cutscenes. Man I miss the good old days where JRPGs could double as a movie
DrArticuno 10 months ago
I love Final Fantasy. Played and finished part 7,8,9,10,12, great amusement and storytelling, but what the F happened to Final Fantasy 13. Just an action game, no character of story development as good as in the previous parts. Especially the character Hope annoyed me. I didn't even find myself interested in finishing the story, because I had no emotional connection to the characters whatsoever, and I cried when Aeris died in FF7, thats how invloved I was with the characters.
whackthedog 11 months ago
@whackthedog I'd say XII was worse than XIII, the storyline just had no sense of epicness
septimal 10 months ago
It was just a sparing match that went too far.Could have been worse, could have been like that exhibition match which turned into Apollo Creed's death sentence.
