@AuroraFoxNEC Allowing a non employee inside an out of service train at a terminal is not grounds for firing, if they felt it was I would not have been allowed to do this in broad daylight at a busy station. Also, I never said it was an engineer gave me permission. I'm confident that the railroad employees that allowed this are better versed in railroad rules and various punishments than railfans. They (and other employees) have seen this video themselves with no concerns.
@MainlineProductions1, it is Massechusetts Bay Commuter Rail (MBCR). It is just a little confusing because of the paint job. By the way, how freaky were those top lights?
Are these officially MARC or MBTA? When a Pan Am dispatcher was giving a train a form D he adressed it "MBTA 59" but I heard an engineer on another train tell the dispatcher he had the "MARC 67" for power
@jdgator95 From what I have read (not sure if it was a credible source or not) that the MBTA wanted MBA, but it was taken, so they registered MBTX, and XMBT was something that a rebuilder or something put on because they weren't sure. The screamers say XMBT in the cab,
it must be rare to see that on MBTA now, its annoying down here in maryland where that is basically all you see running the MARC Penn Line (NEC). The only other thing that runs are the HHP-8's and occasionally a AEM-7 or MP36.
Nice video, this was a cool opportunity!

Do those front lights continuously move in that circular motion while the locomotive is moving?

@bradto

@bradto yes they do
jdgator95 10 months ago
@bradto They're used exactly like ditchlights. So when the train is approaching a crossing or station not full time when the train is moving.

@MrBearsito traveling up the NEC and then across boston on the "grand junction"

Great video, from reports I heard many are lemons. I don't remember them breaking down on the MARC line.
SuperStarRendon 10 months ago
By the way, I rode behind it and took photos of it on the Fitchburg line today.
That gyralight is neat! I need to catch it sometime on video with that gyralight in action before they disconnect it and add ditch lights.

Interesting.... it says XMBT 67 in the cab. I bet they found an old decal and just stuck it on. MBTA's reporting mark is actually MBTX.
diburning 10 months ago
@diburning I've seen XMBT inside a few other locomotives as well...I'm not really sure what the reason for the variation is.

@jdgator95 Aha, I found it. An MBTA employee posted this on a forum.
The official MBTA reporting mark is MBTX.
XMBT, as I understand it, was an improper reporting mark.
Ironically, the Boise Overhaul units still have the XMBT mark inside
the cab. Probably MPI saw them in there and kept them.
MBA was once an official reporting mark, but was not renewed.
Maybe MPI still thought that it was XMBT
