what is kickboxing? I am confused.Karate people used to call MT as kickboxing, later on when they did more fullcontact karate,in 1980s they started to call themself kickboxing.
Fullcontact Karate lost so much to Thai kickboxing so they started to call themself kickboxing too. Many of them made a lot of money from Hollywood movies, dojo,ki,foam foot, head pad.Belts grading. They tried to block Thai kickboxing more than a decade. For your history lesson
@theoriginalopo This is a defence technique when in the clinch, handy when fighting a tall opponent . With both hands push up on the chin disengaging the clinch.
He's been to sithpolek gym in thailand pataya you can recognise the style. How come i know ?? I trained there 2 he's a good fighter verry complete. Nice boxing Nice knee's good kicks. But if i have to be honest DUTCH MUAY THAI RULES. Niet haten niks aan te doen
i fight mma and am a wrestler/bjj but i train muay thai at chai sai in tacoma. In class i use traditional Muay thai (close stance lead leg always slightly elevated to check) but when i fight mma my stance changes drastically
I can't really say that it's more effective than other things, depends on what you are naturally good at in a fight. Muay Thai uses more elements than other kickboxing types like elbows and gives more of an emphasis on the clinch. But it has a few weaknesses because 1. It isn't very elusive and fighters don't typically use side to side movements and 2. Even though it's an extremely technical style it's also kind of a brawling style.
true about brawling, our coach pretty much tells us to stand there and trade. less side to side movement, more just tradin kick for kick thats why its so brutal
ur coaches strategy isnt indicative of muay thai in general, thats his style. There is an emphasis however on returning attacks but also on intelligent defense & offense including movement
not true muay thai isnt necessarily a brawling style, and it can be elusive. It depends on the fighter. U dont have to trade kick for kick, u can slip, check, parry catch. It is however more aggressive than kickboxing. but i prefer the muay thai strategy...why move in and out so frequently. u waste so much time getting in range u wanna stay there. plus all the time u spend moving around u could be setting up combos & counters.
Ya I know I just meant it was more aggressive than kickboxing USUALLY. With all of the different varieties out there, there's bound to be a few that are more aggressive. But there is something different about how the Dutch and the Thais fight just how there are differences how Dutch and Thais train. Most of the European kickboxing circuit is more of a mix between Muay Thai and kyoshin karate while Thailand has a very traditional Muay Thai style.
american kick boxing is borrowed from muay thai and brought over here to the west. honestly its your choice really, there are slight differences. the basics are there though for both.
I'd say that European kickboxing it a good equivalent. It's the same style as Mirko Filipovic uses, but I think that the best is isn't either regular European kickboxing or traditional muay thai but a hybrid between the two. This "European Muay Thai" (not a real term, just what I call it) is the best because it can both be elusive and brawling. Peter Aerts, Jerome Lebanner, Ramon Dekkers, and Rob Kaman all had this type of style.
muay thai uses elbows, knees, shins, and hip throws and trips. Western Kickboxin usually uses the foot for kicks more, Elbows and knees are not allowed. Personally i dont like it.
actually muay thai is drastically different from kick boxing, stance, tactics, technique, origins. kickboxing is a fusion of western boxing and karate. U have a sidewayz stance kicks with the foot above the waste, and boxing like punches. Muay thai sports a more forward, higher stance, kicks with the shin (primary targets are outer and inner thigh & head), in addition to punches, elbows, knees, and clinch. They may look simmilar but only because kickboxing borrowss from muay thai
Though I am Dutch, I would have loved Le Banner to win a K1-championship. One of my favourite fighters of all time, his chin wasn't strong enough.
