This is definately SPI, not Galveston, whoever said that. It takes an 8-10 swell for the "channel" to even start to break. What you're looking at is the mouth of the Brazos Santiago pass that ships use to enter/exit the Gulf of Mexico.

Non-surfers don't sound very intelligent commenting about things of which they know nothing. Furthermore, its either a ripCurrent(by wave action) or a tidal current(from the moon). There is no such thing as a RipTide. And rips aren't dangerous anyway, we use them on a daily basis to save energy when moving around. Stick to your territory. I won't tell you how to count widgets.
