  • Very nice indeed! kudos!

  • One day I will buy a mellotron, oh one day!

  • 15 dislikes? Idiots don't know how difficult it is to play Squire's bass riff over Wakemann's keyboard. Sounded cool. Cool song

  • @eeyyron Thanks eeyyron - and I agree with you, there's no pleasing some people!

  • Love the sound of a Mellotron... it has something doomy & scary.. listen to King Crimson.. so great

  • This just made me want to listen to siberian khatru....

  • BIEENN!!!!!!!!!

  • sweet cover dude

  • To play a string section on a Mellotron.....one has to think like a violin player...not a keyboard player even if it is keys.

  • @Keyboardman88 If you're after an authentic orchestral effect, then yes, agreed; otherwise, I'm of the opinion that it depends on the effect you're trying to achieve. I've never been comfortable with the idea that one should be limited to just playing in one certain way because the sound they're using might dictate as much. I think that as long as the result of what you play 'works' in its context, that is the important thing.

  • @tronfan66 Correct you are. Your Mellotron sounds nice.

  • I caught that Tull in there!

  • My brothers and I (all in the same band) bought one used ages ago (1979) I was the drummer. We had a double gig in a nightclub and left it there overnight. The place burned down that night.

  • @ottoelperro ..and of course there were no photos of the band in action showing the instrument....and the club was un insured or underinsured...but what good musician thinks like an insurance guy or lawyer. It's antithetical to art.

I know., I am an insurance guy and a piano player and I am certainly the antithesis of a musician.

I cry for you friend. No jive./

    Tom

  • waaaaaaaant.

  • sing bird of preeeey!!!

  • seriously cool

  • the keyboard action looks like you need some wrist muscle training before driving that baby

  • word

  • Excellent - hadn't realised that Siberian Khatru's keyboard riff was played on Tron brass!

  • very nice indeed - well done bro

Id love to have a 'tron someday

  • The last 2 chords played are the intro chords to Fountain of Salmacis. Cool sound.

  • Siberian Khatru!

  • I'm so envious!

How often do the tapes malfunction, wear-out, and it needs work? Are they really the pain-in-the-ass that they are notorious for being?

Best Mellotron Strings Demo on YouTube I've seen/heard thus far!

    Thank you!

  • Man i`m wearing a YES t-shirt in this moment !! love your toys :)

  • wow, u really like other music than me...

  • Siberian ... by YES on your M400.

    Hey, man that's cool...

    Thanks 4 posting

  • Es ist immer wieder ein Erlebnis, wenn Du das Teil anspielst. Und zwar jeder Ton, jeder Akkord; das es aber so klappert, hätte ich nicht gedacht - egal, Du hast da einen Schatz zu Hause!

  • I love people like this that keep these old beasts alive as the world is a far better place for people because of creative people who have a passion for something.

Thanks for sharing a great vid of a great bit of history.

  • We want CLOSE TO THE EDGE

  • It's funny you should say that - I've just uploaded a brief rendition...

  • YES!!!

  • Siberian Khatru! Excellent

  • Really good!!! One of the best pieces!!

  • yes yes yes!

  • ...sneaking in some Fountain of Salmacis at the end there ;)

  • Well spotted! :) - and a tiny bit from the end of Tull's "Witches' Promise" too.

  • I'm in love with that wonderful instrument called the mellotron man. I've been interested on it since I read "My Life Recording The Music Of The Beatles" and I found out how much they used it. Great video lad.

  • ah ma god! i LOVE THAT SONG.such a jam. i dig it,i dig it

  • ahaah that is SIBERIAN KATHRU by YES

  • That's the sound of the Seventies right there!! Gotta love it...

  • A Mellotron and a Pro One!? You selfish bastard!!!

  • I like this!

    We mellotron-lovers are strange...

    Max Backstrom

  • ...and I wouldn't have us any other way! :) (by the way, thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the clip).

  • Strange maybe but I bet you like The Moody Blues, Genesis and/ or King Crimson even BJH. TOP BANDS TOP KEYBOARD.

  • those things are pretty noisy like, mechanically eh?

  • They can be, but not as much as it appears on here - I must admit, recording them through a mobile phone camera and mic really doesn't do them justice! :)

  • Yeah man ahaha, well, I reallllyy want one but they're so hard to come by.. They should make some sweet re-issues. Or do you know how i could get samples for a keyboard?

  • G-Media makes a sampler called the M-Tron. Not a substitute for a real melly, but it comes damn close.

  • Is the Mellotron part on the intro to Siberian Khatru using the brass samples or strings? Sounds great, btw.

  • Thanks - I think the intro on the studio version is using a mixture of the Mellotron brass and possibly Hammond Organ playing the same part (or a similar part) alongside. At least, that's how it sounds to my ears!

  • Awesome job on Khatru! Wow that really sounds cool

  • Siberian Khatru! Wonderful!

  • kinda cool, but its not in tune as i tried to figure out the bass line with it. Anyway i want a mellotron!

  • Yes!
