Hm, its hard to balance a versus game between the final fantasies. The heavy moves that would insta-kill parties (like ultima) have to be toned down. In fact, a lot of moves have to be changed, including utility abilities, like FFIV's draw which makes Cecil a beast tank.

This means I know you can just cast Ultima and instantly do 9999, or use Genji Glove+ Offering to exceed more than 9999 per turn. This is for balancing purposes. Although a FF5 character got the first turn, he could be Mime, use Time, Dual Cast, Black. Do Meteor, Quick, Meteor(x4) and it MIGHT kill the FF6 team...if they are wearing no equipment...lol...evade would make most of the packets miss...

@lesjeuxaoublier Considering all 4 of them, with that 4x Attack option, all equipped with Ragnaroks an Ultima Weapons and such, can pummel any team ever, I'd say FFV has by far the most powerful team of any game (except probably VII with Omnislash or KOTR). But FFVI is the best game of them.

Short answer to your question. Yes, you can run by holding L and R in battle simultaneously. Some enemies such as bosses disallow fleeing.
@Zeemis Besides holding both L and R being an extremely rare command in video games altogether, in a menu based game it isn't fair to assume that someone should experiment with advanced controller inputs. It's not something that's obvious for an escape command like you imply it is. @jariroth To make this battle harder, I set FFV's life a bit higher because they'd all be one-shot by Ultima or something similar. No, you can't normally surpass 9999 life.
in spite of all the broken armor and blocking resistant attacks you gave them, and in spite of the fact you nerfed Celes so bad by removing Runic and some other stuff.
Merton the bottom 3 losers a few times, and then Vanish and attack till pathetic Cloud dies.
OH yeah, Ultima is not supposed to be absorbable. It definitely isn't a lightning attack in FF6, because they didn't even make it a lightning attack even in the GBA version.
Ok, yeah, this is pretty stupid actually. All you have to do to win this is use either terra or Celes with this setup: Either of them can solo all 4 of the FF5 characters pretty easily, in half a turn actually. Celes/Terra Illumina Paladin Shield Green Beret Force Armor Beads Gem Box Turn 1: Merton, Quick Merton, Merton (most/all die) Merton, Merton (anything surviving will die) Sabin and Setzer are useless anyway since he hacked out their magic.
@jhudspe The reality is if both parties had 9999 hp and the best gear, nothing would hurt one another except Ultima and Meteor. Celes and Terra have a shitty gear setup, because Genji gear sucks compared to the omni-block setup: Illumina Paladin shield Mystery Veil Force Armor Beads Beads This is GBA friendly and would make Celes and Terra INVINCIBLE vs anything the FF5 characters could do. Terra and Celes each cast Ultima and the fight's over.

This was cool, even though it's a couple of years old. Took me 3 attempts but I beat them easily on my last attempt. So easily i'll have to try again with a slightly less "hax" way of doing it.
For anyone struggling, cast float on your party before the battle and just quake them down until the little White Mage that could is left and spam melee attacks on her. Requires getting as much mblock as possible, which really helps.

@master6339 I know your comment is a month old, but the idea that Cyan is somehow "the best" was just so staggeringly wrong that I just HAD to reply. Cyan is actually one of the worst characters in the game, with terrible stat growth, and his special abilities are awful compared to most other characters. He also doesn't get to equip the best equipment in the game. Practically any other character is better then him, with the exception of Umaro.
@Epistolary8 it depends on how you use him, btw he isn't the best, either sabin or terra is the best, best party for me is terra, sabin, celes, & cyan, to make him good make everyone else move, him last, and select broshudo thing for really good usage of his abilities

I agree with you because a competent player can just equip Genji Glove+Offering+ 2x Ultima Weapons to do the same damage as SwdTech (Bushido), however, SwdTech takes forever to get the gauge up. I like the hack that makes it grow faster. ^_^

This really isn't to hard once you know how. The trick is surviving the "Sun God" move really. And even then Terra Celes and Setzer fully healed can pull it off. Then just X-Magic Ultima spam really. No hard work, just know what to do when to do it, and how to do it.

@master6339 Yep, and Bushido (Swd Tech) is awesome too, just takes a very long time to get to the best tech because of how slow the gauge fills up...

@master6339 I know your comment is a month old, but the idea that Cyan is somehow "the best" was just so staggeringly wrong that I just HAD to reply. Cyan is actually one of the worst characters in the game, with terrible stat growth, and his special abilities are awful compared to most other characters. He also doesn't get to equip the best equipment in the game. Practically any other character is better then him, with the exception of Umaro.

@Epistolary8 it depends on how you use him, btw he isn't the best, either sabin or terra is the best, best party for me is terra, sabin, celes, & cyan, to make him good make everyone else move, him last, and select broshudo thing for really good usage of his abilities

@Epistolary8 I agree to an extent but I also respect other peoples opinions. I agree with you because a competent player can just equip Genji Glove+Offering+ 2x Ultima Weapons to do the same damage as SwdTech (Bushido), however, SwdTech takes forever to get the gauge up. I like the hack that makes it grow faster. ^_^

This really isn't to hard once you know how. The trick is surviving the "Sun God" move really. And even then Terra Celes and Setzer fully healed can pull it off. Then just X-Magic Ultima spam really. No hard work, just know what to do when to do it, and how to do it.
