"Gone Home" was written by Bill Carlisle in 1933 and has been covered by many good country groups, none better than Ricky Skaggs I might add. This is the Real Deal folks.
If you can't play a guitar you're missing an opportunity to play this tune. It could change your life. This is the stuff that makes this country great !! Get on board......God Bless every Soldier and God Bless the USA !!
@10AceOfSpades01 THANK YOU,YOUNG MAN,FOR BEING ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY.SO MANY PEOPLE NOW DONT REALIZE HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO BE ABOUT THIS BEAUTIFUL AND GREAT COUNTRY YOU AND I LIVE IN, THAT SO MANY HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED FOR.ITS GONNA TAKE MORE AND MORE YOUNG MEN LIKE YOU TO KEEP IT GOIN,THANKS AGAIN
What a wonder tribute to our greatest generation! This is one of my favorite gospel songs and this version is just fantastic! Thank you to the veterans & 2 thumbs up for this song
MY DAD HAS GONE HOME NOVEMBER 19, 2008. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW, HOW MUCH I LOVED YOU. HOW COULD GOD LEAVE ME HERE WITH YOU? YOU WERE MY WHOLE LIFE. I DID EVERYTHING IN LIFE FOR YOU. I AM SO EMPTY INSIDE WITHOUT YOU. I DIED THE DAY I LOST YOU. I WOULD GIVE MY LIFE FOR JUST FIVE MINUTES WTH YOU. I MISS YOU MY BEST FRIEND. ALWAYS AND FOREVER DADDY. BARBARA
Awesome song and video. The music and lyrics are very beautiful. Hee Haw Gospel Quartet did a version of this song and they did an awesome job on it. Anyaways I am a big fan of Ricky Skaggs I became a fan when I heard him sing his version of Mel Tillis song Honey Open That Door back in the 80's
I noticed you said you "tried to..." You not only tried but you knocked it out of the park! Great job, I know we you tube viewers may not seem too appreciative but I am very grateful for people like you who take the time to share such meaningful work. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind response. I hadn't even thought of that yet - that Daddy will be celebrating his first Christmas in heaven. What a wonderful, thoughtful, comforting comment to make. Thank you again. He has "Gone Home", reuniting with some of his buddies from WWII. Can you believe this - after Daddy got the cancer diagnosis, he began writing his "War Story". He was not able to finish it, but what he did finish is amazing - and I got to talk to him about it and ask questions.
@marciern1993 It is so good that you had that time with him. Veterans of that war weren't expected to talk about their experiences and so many didn't. Your father's "War Story" is now a "Victory Story!"
This song and video are so very moving - my sister and I just lost our dear Daddy after a 2-month battle with cancer took him away from us, but home to God. I just thank God that I was blessed to live with him for the last 2 months of his life. I learned things about him that I never knew. He was never one to boast or brag, and after he passed, my sister and I found boxes of medals and ribbons, as well as various other awards he received during his 85 years here on earth. He has now "Gone Home".
My father went home in 1999 from a battle with cancer. The cancer didn't win the battle, Jesus did! He taught me to play songs just like this in church when I was 5. I have played this song at funerals and at church. This Sunday, my wife and I will regale a small country church with this song one more time. There will not be a dry eye in the house. Thank you so much for posting this. May your blessing never end.
@tiredwornandweak Thank you! My dad went home this last April. He is missed. As with your dad, the cancer didn't win, but Jesus did! May God bless your offering of song to Him.
@tiredwornandweak I lost my dad to cancer just before my 10th birthday. As a matter of fact he was in the hospital on my birthday. I got to see him just before he passed away and i felt bad because I could not understand what he was trying to say to me, but i do remember one thing. he promised to take me hunting with him but i never got to do that, he died before i got the chance. Dad.... I miss you and love you and i will come home some day to see you and mom.
My dad was there in 1944-45 as a combat engineer, with the job of placing temporary pontoon bridges to replace the ones the Germans blew up behind them as they retreated. Gone home 9 years ago. He was an amateur guitar player too--I think he would have enjoyed this tune. This is a beautiful tribute, thanks for posting.
I just sent the last member of my family from that generation home to heaven. We will miss you all. Rejoice in heaven Grandpa, Uncle Hoover, and Uncle Bollie. You fought in foreign lands so we could have our way of life.
Thanks for this wonderful video. It brings back memories of my Dad. He also served in WWII. Rick Skaggs will be in my town performing soon and I can't wait.
