  • absolutely magnificent..im trying to learn from ya video..its a step be step thing..especially those little runs you do around the 1.20 minute point, but im digging it..your playing is AWESOME..by the way what is that sweet little guitar you play??

  • Kudos, Daddystovepipe, your playing is ripe with soul. I'm glad you used the brushing in the solo. That's the only version I've head, and it really struck me on first listen. Thanks so much.

  • Daddystovepipe Sr. you have no idea how much i love your talent and love for old blues. Im no where near as good as you but pls feel free to look at my videos. As soon as i get some comments or 50 views im gonna make one of my own custom blues. I have played for 16 yrs and taught my self. Thank you for opening my eyes back up to these wonderful blues. We all wish we was a porn star at 19 too. lol tagged blues rocks!!!!!!!

  • @daddystovepipejr

hey jr, love your handle, thanks for the kind words, keep on pickin

will check out your songs when I get back home, anwering this from a hotelcomputer with no sound in spain

  • Mannnn,, your version is very true- thanks for making my day

  • jesus christ, you rock!

  • Oh this is just TOO GOOD! Great stuff.... Great job! Thanks for sharing this.

  • Blind Blake is one of my favorite artists of the genre and has one a most difficult styles to capture on the guitar. You do a great job!!!

  • 1st off - I want that guitar... what type is it? some kind of stella? What strings? It sounds amazing.

2nd... I want your blind blake picture.

3rd... this is probably the best blind blake playing i've seen on youtube.

  • Very nice bluesplaying. And very well done too.

    Greetings from Peter in Sweden,

  • So nice and bouncy! You got the rhythm, Daddy! Gr, Mike

  • All of your stuff is very good, but this one you really are on a whole nuther level. The slip base is flawless, the singing is right in teh pocket.

  • Thanks, that's a nice comment by a 'connaisseur'!

  • Awesome...

  • I can dig it..cheers good video!

  • Your playing is flawless!! im very jealous but atleast I can play a bit of Police Dog Blues :)

  • I'm going to sing the blues about how far I am from being able to tremolo with two fingers. Thanks for a great rendition of a great guitarist.

  • Practise is the magic word I'm afraid but you're young so you have plenty of time :)

I use my middle finger to do the tremolo brushing; the index moves along but doesn't touch the strings, he just happens to be there for the ride, the thumb does the basswork.

  • I just wonder if it's a coincidence that "rope stretchin" sounds like a euphemism for bending and stretching guitar strings. :) Makes the lyrics cool in that context as well.

  • That's beautiful. I'm a Blake fanatic as well. I have "All the Published Sides" and it's just amazing. BRAVO! Kaz

  • Like all of your material, this sounds fantastic. keep em coming please!

  • Bravo! Nice!

  • Good work.

Are you a member of the UMGF?

Some one there thought you were.

  • I'm a "silent" member.

  • Hey daddy, I'm one of your students, by the way, and I've only discovered the great Mr Blake recently.

Once again you have blown me away with your playing.

    Thank you

  • very impressive!

i love the runs and fills

    slick!

  • where can i find the original

  • There's a 5 cd box called "Blind Blake - all the published sides" on the JSP label (good price too)

  • i mean like on youtube

  • You'll need to invent a time machine...Blind Blake who did the original died in 1932...

  • can u upload the original from cd to youtube

  • Thanks! Great guitar work!

  • Fabulous!!!

  • hey daddy, great version of a great song!

  • How long have you been playing guitar?

  • Only 37 years...

  • Damn fine job Daddy!! Keep on pickin'. Holler.

    - Peace fo'real, Sidestreet Reny

  • Magnificent and subtle picking!

And the MAESTRO in the background. I like that too. *****

  • That was awesome. Are you using 2 fingers on that tremelo brush technique. It's kinda hard to tell on the vid.....

  • Thanks for the kind words, all of you.

I use the middle finger to do the brushing while the thumb plays a bass string. I've seen people do it with the index as well so there's no rule. Do whatever is comfortable for you.

  • Damn!! daddy u kick ass! do u have myspace so i could add u?

  • great sounding guitar, been looking for sth. like that for years...

    (and great playing)

  • Brilliant playing Daddystovepipe.

I was going to recommend this to my mate Sophistikitten, but I see he's already found you! Keep up the good work!

  • Fabulous - what more is there to say !!! :-)

  • çok güzel!!bende böyle gitar ustası olabilmek isterdim :)

  • AWESOME! You have an amazing feel for Blake's stumble bass. Blake and Rev Gary Davis are pure Genius. The best and most brillant of the piedmont ragtime style players.

I really enjoyed this video, thanks.

  • good job. pause on 0:23, lol

  • Blind Blake is a bitch to cover, but you've got some very tasty licks in there!

  • nice blind blake, do you pick this stuff up by ear or DVD, tab etc. Either way it is nice, clean and snappy!

  • Thanks for playing! Keep posting more songs please.

  • Nice guitar, great playing!

  • PS - the Supertone is most likely older than the 30s, Harmony (who made Supertone for Sears) stopped using 10th fret markers sometime in the 20s.

  • Thanks, nice to know.

  • Hey Daddy! that was great! Particularly liked the first guitar break... very slick picking! Makes me want to learn this one too... keep them coming, Dan

  • excellent. progressionis kinda like rev davis' hesitation blues.. I.m sure he sat in a room with blind blake at one point

  • Great !!!

  • Very clever stuff well done

  • you man have got the edge,if you know what i mean .Very well played indeed.Cheers!
