my teachers have arranged a trip 3 hours away by coach to go see CRUFTS in march, they say it is maditory, and will cost us each £20(for both coach and tickets to see the 'show'.
I do not want to go as I do not want to support this animal cruelty and I feel i would end up fighting with the 'entrants' owners for cruelty and breeding. Am i entitled and reasonable to say no to attending?
That Shar-Pei BTW was much much prettier and more healthy looking than the ones you see in the show ring today. Not a bone-mouth, but still, hardly any wrinkles.
Here in Sweden, no Shar-Pei should get any prizes if it has wrinkles "anywhere else than on the face, whithers and the base of the tail". Still, their faces are just TOO wrinkly.
About all these breeds - it's just sick that people were warning about this over 20 years ago, and still it's just getting worse and worse.

It is disgusting where people who are trying to introduce more ethical breeding , like designer breeding choices automatically are ignored by breeding clubs for support and advice and are lumped into a catagory of backyard breeding and poor practices. This is discriminatory and useless in helping bring about change wanted by the people as more animal ethically friendly breeding. It seems a diversionary tactic from the cruelty and disregard for animals in pure breeding

breed for work, hunting, herding and general helping dogs!im not against pedigree but buy from a breeder that only breeds for temperment and a healthy, strong dogs..
Indeed Rewhund. The false promises of 24 years ago have noticeably injured the dogs of today. The worst thing, I think, is that any of the good work that the KC does, will be forever tainted by there inability to follow through. All of the charity work in the world won't help the dogs if they still have breed standards that encourage physical attributes over health and temperament. I dread to think what the dogs will look like in another 24 years if they continue with archaic guidelines.
I think the saddest thing about this video was the fact that all 'bad examples' were in fact healthy looking when comparing the worst examples of today. Yeah, breeds have changed. Look at that basset hound's legs - oh god, how long they are! Or that bulldog, I didn't even understamd at first that s/he was a bad, not a good example of the breed.
I hope things will get better all around the world for pedigree and mutt dogs, including there in Britain.
There are a lot of bad breeders in the fancy. But even people like me, who do health tests on dogs and who would only breed to very distantly related dogs, get attacked as well. and there are also a lot of people like me. I don't think that's fair. I do think that health tests should be mandatory and that any dog that got a poor score on a certain health exam should not be allowed to be bred.
ErinKeechak, thank you for being a caring breeder. I don't see how you see yourself attacked by this documentary - it attacked those amongst the fancy doing wrong, and judges and KC officials turning a blind eye, and well it should have
I wonder if anything will be done about this sort of terrible breeding this time round, or will we - in twenty years time - be discussing this same thing yet again? The KC must take a more positive stand and be seen to do something - it comes down to cruelty in the end - some of these dogs suffer so much.
People act like 'Pedigree Dogs Exposed' was out of line for being so harsh on the dog fancy... but after over 20 years of nothing being done about issues everybody knows about, that harshness was completely called for.

True, the Shar Pei and the Bulldog look very healthy compared to dogs seen today. Wake up to the misery of these dogs lives.
