  • One of the best bands ever. A remember seein them for the first time. Tarred and Feathered video on The Tube. Blew me away while others thought "what the fuck". Awesome band!!!

  • Love Cardiacs Love to Tim-Underated Genius!!

  • My life is complete!!

  • This seat is stopping me making babies.

  • Does the drummer say " This is meebee stoppin makin babies... This is meebee stoppin makin babies"?

  • Es para llorar. Estos tipos son MUSICOS, con todas las letras

  • This is brilliant

  • "Oh ... "

    (coughing fit)

    Priceless.

  • 5.19 FUCKING AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. ONWARDS to end

  • A squelchy musical fish. The nuts chaps!

  • Somehow, despite being a Faith No More and Bungle fan since 1987, I had managed to not hear any Cardiacs until last week.

I'm as thick as pigshit, me. If not thicker.

After listening to a load of it I just spend most of the time thinking "so that's where (insert more famous band here) got it from ..."

    Criminally overlooked fucking genius.

  • @JohnnyFavorite1970 Hey, exactly the same as me! Massive Mr Bungle fan, and also London band Mumrah, now The Display Team. How I overlooked this band until about 2 weeks ago is crazy! It's been on repeat ever since.

  • My giddy aunt! Life is on repeat every 7:45. Wake uP auntie lets go again

  • JIIIIM!

  • Would love an album made up of rehearses. Be awesome.

  • fucking glorious.

  • MINT

  • after this....im a fan...

  • this band are the best kept secret of the british isles why??????

    truly blown away Perfect!!

  • @jobzagudn I know! When shit like Jessie J or Olly 'run me over repeatedly' Murs gets worldwide success, these geniuses hardly get a mention. Sickening.

  • love the rain and intensity of this moment in time!!!

  • Methinks my viewing habits are adding to the view statistics. No word to describe. I'm a dirty boy.

  • Keep referring back to this footage...Simply Stunning. Tim, get back on your feet soon Soldier...Love to Tim and all the pond xx

  • Comment removed

  • Just stunning

  • Two people had traumatic experiences off Bridlington Point

  • Can we do that again?

  • For fux sake Tim,get well soon matey.Such talent,awsome !

  • This is the best band in the world. And I'm Diggy. So there

  • Sorry, I didn't know Tim had a heart attack and stroke. Just found out doing some checking on this amazing band.......

  • Hey from Canada. You guys are F#*KING brilliant!!! Love it. You should get to North America, you would do really well here. A friend sent me the link to this. WOW :-) I am a jaded musician and hate everything... almost. You are really different and unique, great musicianship

    .

    Cheers

  • Bloody awesome! We need Tim Smith back in proper working order now more than ever(so haaarrrrdddd).

  • This is "YES" circa "Close to the edge"...pissed off...AND...on speed.....and that's a good thing...like a VERY good thing. Can't stop watching this..

  • I wonder if he ever found JIm...

  • i'd have love to see them play all of "Gloomy News" on the front of this vid. I wonder if there is any more footage to be found ?

  • BOB LEITH, YES!

  • rad.

  • been a fan for a very long time - feel lucky to live at the same time as these guys...

  • I came every 4 beats.

  • 24 years of loyal service to The Alphabet Business Concern and this still takes me through keyholes and over montains

  • Tim Smith, we miss you, we need you!

  • EPIC

  • I still can't put into words how beautiful this performance is, so I'll shut up.

  • Sex on a stick (apart from the bloke in the white jacket...)

  • Great to see the band up close like that - I have a friend in NZ who drums to loads of Cardiacs stuff to keep his technique sharp and he's gonna dig this hugely!!!!

  • KISS THE BIG UGLY SHARK!!!

  • @Sharpsthedrummer i really don't see pants, haha! and yes, it's true. did it today with my band, and being in a small room for 2 or 3 hours when it's very hot outside....

  • 5:08 is fucking magic

  • A gem !!

  • A Gem !!

  • A fine example of just how good a song can be!!

  • Please upload more from this session! Get well Tim...

  • When all the scenesters and hipsters of the late 70's were regurgitating post punk, Tim was writing this.

  • Fucking amazing and so little of this talent around now, get well soon Tim, we miss you!

  • Why is the bass player almost naked? or is he naked?

  • @spastic017 Because he's worth it pet.

  • @thatstidy whatever

  • There used to be a couple more tunes from this session, anyone know if their still knocking about, or if there's still the possibility of the whole rehearsal being released on DVD? Such an amazing band.

  • Does anyone know how Tim is?

  • keeep going lads.i love it

  • @flachi32 That one's called Gloomy News. You can find it on their 'Special Garage' live album.

  • Saw them in London on a trip there in 1994. Mind-blowing is an understatement. Amazing band.

  • Bob Leith, that is all.

  • anyone know what ever happened to the lovely Miss Swift?

  • Makes me smile that cardiacs community is alive and kicking. Man I miss playing in the pond...kiss that big big ugly shark

  • I like the pissing Rain.

  • What is the song that's finishing off before they kick off again?

  • Amazing!

  • If Steven Wilson likes this, I like it.

  • Ive been listening to bands like mr bungle and devo for ages and other strange, weird music for a while and got sent back down the line of their roots to these guys! amazing, cant get enough of them and hope they bring a new release out soon even though they will NEVER play live again :/

  • Where the hell was Chip?

  • I can only feel sorry for those two who puts thumbs down to this loveliness.

  • Kavus is one of the best guitarists in this video

  • Absolute supernatural beauty, cheek, managed chaos.

  • Prog with energy? This is badly needed.

  • What album is this song on??

  • @PerfectStranger41 Archive, or The Special Garage Concerts Vol 1.

  • By the way, i heard the version of this from the Garage Concerts album and it's even better than this version if that is possible :) I think because it's the fully rounded version instead of a rehearsal and Kavus Torabi's harmony vocals are a perfect counter for Tim Smith's lead ones :) Not sure if that version is on youtube tho...

  • i found a small selection of tabs online including a full tab of Gibber & Twitch ! Well done to that guy/gal who transcribed it ! The more Cardiacs i find, the more i fall in love. Can't decide on a favourite as so many have so much to love about them ! Odd Even or maybe In a City Lining maybe ? Tarred & Feathered or R.E.S. ? So much to love ! And albiet 30 years too late, i have a crush on the saxophanist :D She's so pretty haha ! Wasn't she and Tim Smith married at one point ?

  • How is he now?

  • Cardiacs really rocks, dotn play bussines!!

  • @Sharpsthedrummer- Hello mate. Yeah it's heartbreaking really. Cardiacs are/were never going to be mainstream, too challenging for most. They just needed the right medium for the music to be heard by more people and the web offers that. In an ideal world they should be playing to new converts now and selling a few more records through their site. Real shame! Saw them loads, very lucky.

  • also, can you get tab for this song ? lol has anyone even attempted it !? :P

  • @dimebolt1976 - Ha, I doubt you'd find many Cardiacs tabs but good luck to anyone having a go. There's a band from Israel on here that do really good Cardiacs covers though. Tim Smith never really talked about his music, the complexity or style of it, dismissing the silly 'pronk' label, often calling it 'just tunes, pop tunes' when interviewed. Got to love him for that, not one ounce of ego or pretension which makes this band even more special.

  • OMG!!!I Love It

  • I only discovered this band today....i am 34 years old...what the hell have i been doing with my life up until i heard this !? Incredible...just incredible. May be my most favourite song ever, even after only one listen...Can anyone recommend me the definitive Cardiacs album ?..

  • @dimebolt1976 - Hello there - I first got into Cardiacs via 'the Seaside' but the longer tape version - very hard to find now. I still think it's the best, you can download a shorter version off Itunes. You'll find 'As Cold As Can Be' on 'Archive Cardiacs', also a favourite, and 'the Garage Concerts Vol 1.' Being into this band for so long it's just nice to see them get some much deserved credit so buy anything you can get!! Huge thanks to Tim Smith for your wonderful music and live shows.

  • i wonder what he was shouting jim for?

  • Wow, this is good!

  • Great band but i wish i could get there albums in a different way then iTunes ...

  • @TheFall0uts - You may have looked but try ebay - normally quite a few Cardiacs albums on there and some other Tim Smith stuff which is all worth a listen. Cardiacs records/cd's can sell for quite a bit of money now though, especially as the official website has, understandably, stopped!

  • @Intapool - heya, thanks for the info ! I checked Amazon but everything seems to be around the £80 mark :( The more i listen to thier stuff via youtube, the more i fall in love with the music. Xmas is coming, maybe i'll ask for something Cardiacs related :D Where is this footage from ? A DVD or VHS or neither ? I'd love to find this entire film...

  • @dimebolt1976 - Try ebay, although still pricey! It's a shame, but understandable, that the band's website has stopped. It didn't even mention the Tim Smith tribute album that was released today. They used to sell all the CD's there, now on itunes! I think this footage was due for release but never came out, band are rumoured poor and no real financial backers so hard to get stuff out I guess. Plus, Tim is very ill so everything stopped. Shame, awesome band just getting long overdue credit!

  • all snowy in the pond now :-]

  • Blimey! I've never listened to The Cardiacs before. That's amazing. Right: I'm off to listen to loads more of them.

  • Cardiacs. Without ANY doubt, the greatest band on the planet.

  • this is beyond brilliant, never fails to amaze me how life can be so unfair sometimes....

  • If only someone had shown me this band back in the 80's when I was in high school. I think my life might have turned out differently. This is absolutely incredible.

  • The singer is the prototype of any Indie Band singer.

Sick stuff. But very cool. :)

  • @Pounzer FUCK OOF what bollocks you wanker. And I mean it in a most friendly way.Fucker!

  • @armandbourgoignie Oops. Swear Words. And why should that impress me? By the way: I didn't write anything negative. But I guess they don't speak neutrality in fanboy land, right?

  • Comment removed

  • @Pounzer - Cardiacs have been going for over 30 years and have been ripped off by just about everyone without getting the credit they deserve. Tim Smith=Genius. FACT :)

  • @cardiacs74 That's why I wrote "prototype". ;)

  • @Pounzer - Fair point...know what you meant now :)

  • @Pounzer - Thank you for replying...Yeah, know what you mean now :)

  • HOLY MARCONI ! How have I managed to miss these guys for 30 years?!! Was just put onto them today... amazing. What a welding together of Tin Huey, Split Enz, XTC, Devo and gawd knows what else.

  • @lumpytwangage I think you can throw in early Yes, Porcupine Tree and Primus in there as well........

  • Comment removed

  • @jtrek154 No doubt! I forgot to mention Frank Zappa and Gentle Giant, too.

  • @jtrek154 You may be able to hear Yes but in Porcupine Tree and Primus you will hear Cardiacs

  • @lumpytwangage because you are an American fellow?

  • @crashtv Yes, it must be admitted, but for such a great band to have been so thoroughly under my radar... pisses me off!

  • @lumpytwangage Add Fawlty Towers.

  • @crashtv I wouldn't argue that : C }

  • very showbizzy

  • A big thanks to Steven Wilson for making me search and find this awesomeness

  • @petroskar Same way I found them. It's getting kind of annoying in a weirdly good sense that no matter what he recommends I almost always end up liking it. Or it's the other way around; I find something, like it, and then I discover that SW likes it too. He has TOO good taste in music xD

  • @petroskar

Oh how fantastic! :) welcome to the pond of fish. The pond is currently dark and evaporating. Sadly true.

  • @crashtv :(

  • my band slunq are doing something simliar by accident - every time we get close to Cardiacs we feel very bad and stop it. We're trying to get past it but it's horrid. Cardiacs only please. We have followed Cardiacs for about 15 years so we're new in a way.

  • @crashtv Hey! Its Charlie, Steve's son. Its weird how I found your comment on a cardiacs video haha. I thought I was the only person I knew who liked Cardiacs, other than dad haha.

  • @crashtv good stuff,if your gonna take influence of a band, everybody does through all what we have heard without knowing, why not the cardiacs, love to hear it

  • @crashtv The pond will always be deep and plentiful, always. The water is so pure and crystaline, Tim and Jim and evryone else, band and fans will keep the waters fresh for new foundlings.

  • @petroskar Me too!

  • 6:04

  • Did the drummer said "People should stop making babies?" ?

  • @arizonaisnotagreatea i think he says 'this kind of music stops me making babies!' i have no idea how though

  • Sweet as Fuc*. and solid

  • You must be an idiot not to like this, warts and all

  • The guy who disliked this song must die

  • Brilliant band! Nuff said! Tim is still alive!! Get well soon Tim!

ghilliecriosd, it's not on any album but you're right, it is genius!

  • It might sound trite, but genius is the only word for this. So tight, so fluid, so expressive. High art indeed, and it makes my heart sing! Which album is this track on, anyone know? Please!

  • @ghilliecriosd this song is on archive cardiacs.hard to get the cd but is on itunes

  • @bellyeyed Actually it was originally on Toy World

  • @eliottelescorielese unfortunately i have never gotten to hear that, would love to mind.just thought ghilliecriosd might like to know that its availible.stil have the tape from the yousletter family.archive cardiacs well worth picking up

  • @bellyeyed it's also on The Garage Concerts vol 1 of course!

  • @schlepworld yep, something about the original though,i love it.doesnt matter which you get.love it and spread the word

  • anyone know when this was?

  • JIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it makes me dizzy, ditzy, dog....ah whatever, at that time, that place...it makes this place, builds it up, bit by bit........

  • @bezanuk its easy to remember how a song goes if you write it, no matter how long or complex it is you always know what's coming next.

  • This song is so beyond anything I've heard in years.I became addicted to The Cardiacs and oh my what an addiction....

  • GENIUS!

  • this is one of the best tunes ever, ican remember getting the tape from the yousletter family and even tho all the songs are amazing for the time, this one always stood out.i wore out the tape with this.its testament to that this song beats the shit out of anything that people come up with these days

  • LOVE + LOVE

  • LOL, JIM!!!! Oh Jim what a shame you are HAHA!

  • this is fuckin brilliant!!

  • cardiacs, you just found a new fan.

  • I love this more than anything I have ever heard before, and I have been avidly listening for 40 years. It brings tears to my eyes(genuinely). I would give both testicles to be as good drummer as this guy. And if you see my videos you will see I've tried!!!! Good luck with your health Tim. Martin

  • Kavus's fall at 5:40 is comedy genius.

  • Gotta love the cough.

  • Absolutely brilliant. One of the best things I have ever heard. What a set of rhythms!
