One of the best bands ever. A remember seein them for the first time. Tarred and Feathered video on The Tube. Blew me away while others thought "what the fuck". Awesome band!!!
@JohnnyFavorite1970 Hey, exactly the same as me! Massive Mr Bungle fan, and also London band Mumrah, now The Display Team. How I overlooked this band until about 2 weeks ago is crazy! It's been on repeat ever since.
@jobzagudn I know! When shit like Jessie J or Olly 'run me over repeatedly' Murs gets worldwide success, these geniuses hardly get a mention. Sickening.
Hey from Canada. You guys are F#*KING brilliant!!! Love it. You should get to North America, you would do really well here. A friend sent me the link to this. WOW :-) I am a jaded musician and hate everything... almost. You are really different and unique, great musicianship
This is "YES" circa "Close to the edge"...pissed off...AND...on speed.....and that's a good thing...like a VERY good thing. Can't stop watching this..
Great to see the band up close like that - I have a friend in NZ who drums to loads of Cardiacs stuff to keep his technique sharp and he's gonna dig this hugely!!!!
@Sharpsthedrummer i really don't see pants, haha! and yes, it's true. did it today with my band, and being in a small room for 2 or 3 hours when it's very hot outside....
There used to be a couple more tunes from this session, anyone know if their still knocking about, or if there's still the possibility of the whole rehearsal being released on DVD? Such an amazing band.
Ive been listening to bands like mr bungle and devo for ages and other strange, weird music for a while and got sent back down the line of their roots to these guys! amazing, cant get enough of them and hope they bring a new release out soon even though they will NEVER play live again :/
By the way, i heard the version of this from the Garage Concerts album and it's even better than this version if that is possible :) I think because it's the fully rounded version instead of a rehearsal and Kavus Torabi's harmony vocals are a perfect counter for Tim Smith's lead ones :) Not sure if that version is on youtube tho...
i found a small selection of tabs online including a full tab of Gibber & Twitch ! Well done to that guy/gal who transcribed it ! The more Cardiacs i find, the more i fall in love. Can't decide on a favourite as so many have so much to love about them ! Odd Even or maybe In a City Lining maybe ? Tarred & Feathered or R.E.S. ? So much to love ! And albiet 30 years too late, i have a crush on the saxophanist :D She's so pretty haha ! Wasn't she and Tim Smith married at one point ?
@Sharpsthedrummer- Hello mate. Yeah it's heartbreaking really. Cardiacs are/were never going to be mainstream, too challenging for most. They just needed the right medium for the music to be heard by more people and the web offers that. In an ideal world they should be playing to new converts now and selling a few more records through their site. Real shame! Saw them loads, very lucky.
@dimebolt1976 - Ha, I doubt you'd find many Cardiacs tabs but good luck to anyone having a go. There's a band from Israel on here that do really good Cardiacs covers though. Tim Smith never really talked about his music, the complexity or style of it, dismissing the silly 'pronk' label, often calling it 'just tunes, pop tunes' when interviewed. Got to love him for that, not one ounce of ego or pretension which makes this band even more special.
I only discovered this band today....i am 34 years old...what the hell have i been doing with my life up until i heard this !? Incredible...just incredible. May be my most favourite song ever, even after only one listen...Can anyone recommend me the definitive Cardiacs album ?..
@dimebolt1976 - Hello there - I first got into Cardiacs via 'the Seaside' but the longer tape version - very hard to find now. I still think it's the best, you can download a shorter version off Itunes. You'll find 'As Cold As Can Be' on 'Archive Cardiacs', also a favourite, and 'the Garage Concerts Vol 1.' Being into this band for so long it's just nice to see them get some much deserved credit so buy anything you can get!! Huge thanks to Tim Smith for your wonderful music and live shows.
@TheFall0uts - You may have looked but try ebay - normally quite a few Cardiacs albums on there and some other Tim Smith stuff which is all worth a listen. Cardiacs records/cd's can sell for quite a bit of money now though, especially as the official website has, understandably, stopped!
@Intapool - heya, thanks for the info ! I checked Amazon but everything seems to be around the £80 mark :( The more i listen to thier stuff via youtube, the more i fall in love with the music. Xmas is coming, maybe i'll ask for something Cardiacs related :D Where is this footage from ? A DVD or VHS or neither ? I'd love to find this entire film...
@dimebolt1976 - Try ebay, although still pricey! It's a shame, but understandable, that the band's website has stopped. It didn't even mention the Tim Smith tribute album that was released today. They used to sell all the CD's there, now on itunes! I think this footage was due for release but never came out, band are rumoured poor and no real financial backers so hard to get stuff out I guess. Plus, Tim is very ill so everything stopped. Shame, awesome band just getting long overdue credit!
If only someone had shown me this band back in the 80's when I was in high school. I think my life might have turned out differently. This is absolutely incredible.
@armandbourgoignie Oops. Swear Words. And why should that impress me? By the way: I didn't write anything negative. But I guess they don't speak neutrality in fanboy land, right?
@Pounzer - Cardiacs have been going for over 30 years and have been ripped off by just about everyone without getting the credit they deserve. Tim Smith=Genius. FACT :)
HOLY MARCONI ! How have I managed to miss these guys for 30 years?!! Was just put onto them today... amazing. What a welding together of Tin Huey, Split Enz, XTC, Devo and gawd knows what else.
@petroskar Same way I found them. It's getting kind of annoying in a weirdly good sense that no matter what he recommends I almost always end up liking it. Or it's the other way around; I find something, like it, and then I discover that SW likes it too. He has TOO good taste in music xD
my band slunq are doing something simliar by accident - every time we get close to Cardiacs we feel very bad and stop it. We're trying to get past it but it's horrid. Cardiacs only please. We have followed Cardiacs for about 15 years so we're new in a way.
@crashtv Hey! Its Charlie, Steve's son. Its weird how I found your comment on a cardiacs video haha. I thought I was the only person I knew who liked Cardiacs, other than dad haha.
@crashtv good stuff,if your gonna take influence of a band, everybody does through all what we have heard without knowing, why not the cardiacs, love to hear it
@crashtv The pond will always be deep and plentiful, always. The water is so pure and crystaline, Tim and Jim and evryone else, band and fans will keep the waters fresh for new foundlings.
