  • What about travelling musicians? What they do is of no use to society as a whole, other than for entertainment of a select few people who may find them interesting. Are the people going to get to vote on what bands get paid and how much they get paid? It seems to me that in regards to markets where the state has no involvement in, the people themselves, choose what is benefitial to society. If my music is worthwhile, people will watch. Why should I be forced to work for the benefit of everyone?

  • I have also thought about the state of music and art in such a society, being a musician myself. I don't know what the answer is although I agree much more with a libertarian socialist/anarchist society.

The arts do provide the great service of entertainment though, much like the basketball analogy he uses in the 1st video. I'm also pretty sure that our current system is certainly not very conducive to the arts. *shrugs*

  • @Simbelmyne13 -- Warhol said that he wasn't a real artist cause he made money doing it. He said the real artists were doing it in spite of the fact that they weren't making money at it. They HAD to do it. Still i believe this suck ass economic system we live under could be less hostile to artists. Bill Evans couldn't even pay for his electricity at times.

  • @tom6612 I totally agree. Real artists MUST create as it is in their blood. Many, many artists have chafed under the state capitalist framework and been vocal about its horrors all through the past until today.

  • @Simbelmyne13 -- I play classical guitar. It is one of the least economically viable art forms and i have paid dearly for it. But as Holzer said accomplishment requires sacrifice. Campbell has revealed that the artist has the most important job on the planet so artists should be thankful they have chosen the right path. Art is at the top of Maslow's hierarchy.
