Wander is actually pretty shit at using the sword in game. He's much better at using the bow, he can even shoot accurately while riding. What he isn't is good at keeping his footing and running fast, which is probably related to his skill at riding a horse.
The only problem i see here is Wander's blade proficiency and badass portrayal. Just go in the game and make him swing the sword. He's so clumsy and unsure. He's less of an angsty, vengeful teen and more of a desperate, stubborn child. An excelent climber, horseman and a superb archer? Yes. But a terrible, terrible swordsman and definitely not a seasoned warrior.
You've done a nice job with this. If they EVER DID make a film adaptation of the game, they should check this out and pay you to use it and make the film based off your drawings in this video.

Excellent work! Yeah, when I first heard about the whole movie thing though, I mean, all I could think was "WHY??!!" There is no way you can make something like SotC work as a film! If I ever see the trailer for it pop up on my TV screen I'll cry. I really will.

Where do Mono and Wander, and the Shaman and his men, come from? I have my own theories, and you may have your own. Perhaps the developers have theirs, too.
It was not an angry emotion that drove the game. It was a sad, lonely and desperate story of love and loyalty. Wander may have been naive in thinking he could revive her, but he would do anything to bring her back. Considering it's not fully explained how she died it's possible her death was Wader's fault.
Anyway. If there was a movie it would be pretty boring. Just play the game if you want the experience, don't try to squeeze it into a different mold. Be content with what it already is.
I dont like the idea of a SotC movie, but I find it funny how people keep refering to the game as this deep, emotional artistic experience. Personally I love the game, it was beautiful, fun, but deep and emotional? Repetitive as hell maybe? The game wasnt even close to the emotional depth of Ico! Go here, kill this, start again. repeat. One boss after another. That was SotC. If the player had a choice, between Wander's life and Mono's, then real depth may have been achieved.
Good stuff, but that's not the story, see the story goes like this, Wander was a Priest of some sort, one day, he is asked to sacrifice Mono for some reason, he does so but haunted by his deeds he takes the sword and his horse to the forbidden lands were legend has it that the gods can bring the dead to life.
Oh, and also, I looked through the comments a bit and saw someone say that the film rights were in the guy who made the Street Fighter film's hands. It isn't. If I remember right they said that it was going to be made by both Team Ico (Duh!) and Lucas Arts, so should it come out, don't worry about it sucking too much unless they decide to totally chop up the plot.

No offense to Kevin Misher but Shadow of the Colossus is more than just an action game. It's a beautiful piece of art with a tragic ending and I srsly doubt they'll do justice to it. If it were someone like Guillermo DelToro I wouldn't be so nervous. And he knows both SoTC and ICO (he liked it!)

I have heard about the film coming out in 2012. Honestly, it is going to be out of sync with the actual game because while the game is phenomenal, but it cannot work as a feature film on its own. If the story is changed to something similar as this one, it could work. The street fighter films were not worth watching, but I will have to see at least the trailer of the actual movie before I form a conclusive opinion on it.

ummm that trailer didnt depict him craving vengeance. it showed him doing all he could to save mono; just like in the game. i actually want a SOTC anime, and i think some of the things in this trailer would make for excelent plot devices. buraisuko failed to mention that the villagers killed mono though; in the begining af the game, wander states that they sacrificed her, so vengeance isnt out of the question...they pissed him off by killing mono.
@seangrei: Wander never wanted to inflict harm on Emon and his men for Mono's death. Even as Dormin, Ueda has stated the reason he's hard to control is because he's half Wander (his leg is also physically wounded because of the arrow in Wander's leg).
So Wander's side did not care about vengeance, Dormin however did.
Cool art. Only problem is that you said that Mono was his fiance, which doesn't really work if you think about it. Wander and Agro had a very close bond. He likely had been riding Agro since he was very young. His fiance would certainly be familiar with his horse, yet at the end,

when she sees Agro hurt, she doesn't seem concerned at all, nor does she question where the horse's rider is. If you saw your fiance's horse wandering injured and alone, wouldn't you be more upset?
Although wouldn't you be dazed as well if you had been supossedly dead/in a coma for who knows how long, in a place you've never seen before, then see a familier horse, and in your daze, only follow it, not knowing what really is going on? I know I'd be confused. And it IS possible the horse was stolen, as the bond could have grown while hunting the colossi, given the feeling of isolation of the place, with only the horse as their companion. Eh, the game has countless possibilities. Confusing.

@jummadi I think SotC is supposed to be a game, and just THAT. the world does NOT need any movies to ruin it. If they do make a movie, SotC will end up having the same fate as Mario Bros, Street Fighter, ect.

i agree with eataneraser that your backstory kills a bit of the mystery and feeling of the original game itself. Part of what made the story so memorable was the mystery behind the characters themselves.
That being said, your work is really great. The art is amazing, the backstory is very interesting, and it had my blood running. Very awesome project.

In order to make a decent movie of this game, you need to completely change it! The whole feel of NO interaction with other life (outside your horse) is a very integral part of the game! What do movies need? Interaction!
I think that you could fit in story as flash-backs after colossi fights. That way Wander would still be solitary, yet multiple characters could be introduced along the way, and eventually meet up for the conclusion of the movie.
S.o.c is far to good to be demeaned into an anime format.

ummm that trailer didnt depict him craving vengeance. it showed him doing all he could to save mono; just like in the game. i actually want a SOTC anime, and i think some of the things in this trailer would make for excelent plot devices. buraisuko failed to mention that the villagers killed mono though; in the begining af the game, wander states that they sacrificed her, so vengeance isnt out of the question...they pissed him off by killing mono.

@seangrei: Wander never wanted to inflict harm on Emon and his men for Mono's death. Even as Dormin, Ueda has stated the reason he's hard to control is because he's half Wander (his leg is also physically wounded because of the arrow in Wander's leg).
So Wander's side did not care about vengeance, Dormin however did.

Cool art. Only problem is that you said that Mono was his fiance, which doesn't really work if you think about it. Wander and Agro had a very close bond. He likely had been riding Agro since he was very young. His fiance would certainly be familiar with his horse, yet at the end,

when she sees Agro hurt, she doesn't seem concerned at all, nor does she question where the horse's rider is. If you saw your fiance's horse wandering injured and alone, wouldn't you be more upset?

Although wouldn't you be dazed as well if you had been supossedly dead/in a coma for who knows how long, in a place you've never seen before, then see a familier horse, and in your daze, only follow it, not knowing what really is going on? I know I'd be confused. And it IS possible the horse was stolen, as the bond could have grown while hunting the colossi, given the feeling of isolation of the place, with only the horse as their companion. Eh, the game has countless possibilities. Confusing.

I like to think that she was sacrificed though. It explains why the priest is so adamant about making sure she is dead when they get there, instead of looking for Wander.

Hey, this is actually really good! I LOVE it! Great job! Not exactly what I pictured, but you are right, the game left a lot open for the player to imagine. That was part of what was so great about it. I think that this is really well done!

i agree with eataneraser that your backstory kills a bit of the mystery and feeling of the original game itself. Part of what made the story so memorable was the mystery behind the characters themselves.
That being said, your work is really great. The art is amazing, the backstory is very interesting, and it had my blood running. Very awesome project.

Maybe you should send this to Justin Marks, the guy who is REALLY writing a script for a Shadow of the Colossus movie. I am a little worried about this game becoming a movie, I can only hope it gets stuck in development hell and never gets out!

In order to make a decent movie of this game, you need to completely change it! The whole feel of NO interaction with other life (outside your horse) is a very integral part of the game! What do movies need? Interaction!

I think that you could fit in story as flash-backs after colossi fights. That way Wander would still be solitary, yet multiple characters could be introduced along the way, and eventually meet up for the conclusion of the movie.
