• At 4:31 noticed how she's turning around? now I know for a fact that she recognized him, but she chose not to wait and move on. I think she knows that's what best for the both of them, this movie is about letting go of the past so i think it's a fitting end. But i still want to see them together.

  • ''If our lives could be repeated I'd be at your side every time'' - thats the most beautiful verse ever.

  • Does any1 have this song in mp3 :/ I have OST but this song is only instrumental :/

  • Damn you anime trains! This is like the 3rd time you've prevented a happy ending!

  • This is a great ending. Can't stop cringing every time I watch this T___T

  • @ Top commentS

well I think, we all feel the same that why we still watch it, in 2012.

only regret and sadness... but why it is so warm?

  • Please stay and wait for him, please stay and wait for him, please stay- FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU :'(

  • I feel this empty pit in my stomach. Everytime i watch this i always hope that the ending would change and they would end up being together. WHY DID THEY HAVE TO MOVE ON?!

  • if he really loved her he would have ran across.

  • @screamsinfamous And die.

  • @krnxzephyr Best reply ever.

  • Stupid train! :@

  • DAT FUCKING TRAIN.

  • @Louchan2 It's a troll train.

  • I've seen a lot of films in my time... But this is the most pitch perfect ending in any film, anime or not. It is so perfectly judged. They decide to move on from each other and yet they share one more moment witnessing the cherry blossom before departing. The film is not flawless but the ending is quite literally without fault. No other film ends with the ambiguity and yet absolute closure that this does. One of my all time favorites despite it's flaws and misjudging in other parts of the film.

  • This movie and 500 Days of Summer are a lot alike, both really great movies.

  • LOL at the starry eyed kids' comments...sorry boys and girls but usually this is how life goes. life's a hard b*tch, but hey, you find your way to keep livin'

  • 0:15 You can see the snow falling at 5 centimeters per second

  • ohh nvm he did not ended up with kanae..the manga is still ongoing though...

  • he ended up with kanae..read the manga!!!! :D

  • @lalagirl211 where can i read the manga???

  • @Raickou44 oh just search it in the google...

  • @lalagirl211 yeah i was able to find one, is the manga still goin? thought the 11th chapter was the last one...

  • damn....everyone can relate to this anime....damn times 3...its beyond depressing ..truth

  • Too good ;_;

  • 5 depressions for second :(

  • So the theme of the movie is to be careful of train crossings right?

  • the most painful part of this movie was when i saw that ring on akari's hand... i realized "ah... it really is over between them..."

  • Damn that train.. :)

  • My heart clenches every times I see this. I so desperately want them so see each other... but maybe this ending is for the best.

  • @1kgal

I hear ya :( Every time I watch it I cry like it was the first time and still have expectations that they'd see each other... but I guess I wouldn't like this movie so much like I do now if it had a happy ending... I think the way it is it just makes it all much more... real :)

  • i felt really bitter after watching the ending...but i guess..it's time for both of them to move on and take their own separate ways in life :)..it's sad...but its reality

  • ACTUALLY BOTH ARE HAPPY AS SHE IS MARRIED SHE HAS CLOSED HER PAST AND COPING WITH PRESENT but he wasnt until 4:54 that makes it all happy ending man they should have made both smile :)

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !

  • DAMN YOU CANT YOU JUST SHOUT AKARII !!! COME BACK2 MEEEEEE I WOULD DO THIS IF I FELT SHE IS CLOSE TO ME

  • ITS VERY DEPRESSING YET A HOPE NOW THEY ARE SOOO CLOSE YET TO FAR AWAY :'(

  • yeah but in my life story is toatlly different i am not into this love matters i dont even have a friend let alone Gfs but yeah i missed my train now i am left alone to travel by foot in dirt pebbles and thorns

  • I hate how realistic this movie is especially the last bit.... I feel everything that was build up was just crashed in the last part

  • If you guys are still depressed at the ending of the anime movie, I think the ending of the manga will cheer you guys up a little =)

  • @DyeSueKey Yup, the manga ending was a little happier as it's got more closure, the both of them moving on

  • Awwww.. ;_;

  • they never really showed us Akari's side...

  • Wow, the movie ended at the same place it began. They did watch the cherry blossoms again. Ah, they were so close yet so far away....

  • Okay, what's with the beep at the end?

  • @reversedkid The user cut this clip from the last episode. That beep was the first note on a piano for the song used in the credits.

  • ........Train crossing, shes getting married and happy and he quit his dead end job and is living healthier. So they unknowingly met and did watch Cherry Blossoms together, without doubt in their hearts. And on the creator leaving the ending open, well, they're both in Tokyo now and although its highly unlikely they'll meet again, I think we all agree that strange things than that have happened.

  • After researching the novel and reading it, I've come to the following conclusion. Spoilers ahead. They do keep there promise of watching cherry blossoms together with out any doubts because in the novel he moved on from her before the train crossing in terms of love, the reason he's all depressed leading up to then is because of past relationships ending badly and work leaving him lonely. He needed to hear Akari tell him "you'll be alright Takaki" again. When you see them at the..........

  • I keep watching this video and although I know its good that he's moving on from her, I have one question: why did they stop sending each other mail?

  • the train has a meaning of letting it go.

  • of cos, it's a relief in the sense that she did not wait and he was able to let go. many felt sad because, to audiences, it's a journey of less than 2 hours. but to the subject in the movie, we're talking about a 10-15 year wait. i guess it's just a love that is not meant to be.

one thing to rejoice, however, the fact that she was not there after the train passed by, to me, it felt like she still loves him or would fall in love with him again, so she avoided the meeting

  • It was NOT a sad ending, in my opinion. If he had never seen Akari in this ending sequence, or if she had not disappeared when the trains moved on, THAT would have been a sad ending.

The important thing is that because she did not wait, he was able to finally let go of the past. It's a happy ending people.

  • it's beautiful yet painful to watch. i mean, as an audience, i can't move on like they did!!! i always find it very painful and frustrating for two people who love each other can't be together... sob :(~~~~

  • Every time I watch the ending, I keep hoping that she would still be there after the trains go by...

  • im damn sad :(

  • This ending made me cry, and left a big hurting lump in my stomach...

  • LOVE GHIS SONG LOVE THIS ANIME DAMN YOU PEOPLE WHO DiSKLIKE IS A GOOD ANIME DONT DISKLIKE AND A GOOD SONG

did you know that the cherry blossom falls 5cm per secound~

  • I hate trains...

  • Does anyone know the song from 0:12, when Takaki walks into the store?

  • @bachtuot same song -.- one more time, one more chance

  • @bachtuot LOL u mean the entire song played throughout this clip...

  • But i have one thing on my mind i read the wiki episode 3 and said she was going to get married? or was it like a meeting for them to get close?

  • can some1 tell me??? ....... did they really see each other at the end when they cross path ???........im really confused

  • @alaiza54 Yeah they did see each other but as the train passed by he was hoping she would still be there but she was gone and he smiled as he walked home :( pretty sad huh? almost all of the work the director made are sad endings

  • @INfernoLake I really thought that they didn't see each other at 4:27.....the girl really moved on and walk like nothing happen in the past .....thank you so much ..im relieve from my curiosity now ..THANK YOU

  • @INfernoLake mmm noup, I don´t see how is this a sad ending, the movie itself yeah but the ending?... I can understand the happiness he felt at the end, heck I even smiled when he did.

  • @INfernoLake Recent events only made me relate more with him

  • If Sheldon ever stumble upon this video he would be displeased with all the train bashing.

    ಠ.ಠ

  • Fucking trains...

    ;___;

  • Amazing movie, amazing art style, amazing animation, amazing everything... Definitely the #1 most saddest anime movie i've ever seen... This movie left me seriously depressed =/ Especially the end.

  • @266sasuke same here =((

  • To be continued as "Proposal Daisakusen" hehe

  • "That's what we thought" - The toughest part of their dialog.

  • he's strong, If I were in his place I would've given up on my life, let go of everything and wait till the day I die.

  • whyyy did he have to lose his letter to akari back when they first meant to meet up!!!! :( ahhh

  • Gotta feel bad for Tono though... I mean, he quit his job, saw Akari, then the two let go of each other... What's the man going to do now? Ahh well, beautiful story, understood it the first time I watched it, which was two days ago.

  • The last time I saw this, I was deeply saddened by the ending because things did not turn out the way I wanted them to. But watching it again now, I realize that it's a happy (well, bittersweet) ending because there is closure: he smiles as he can finally turn away from his past, having fulfilled his promise of watching cherry blossoms falling again with the girl someday. Life goes on! :)

  • @sunaku1 i disagree, the rest of his life he is going to be a rii-man working at some corporate office from 8-6 Monday through Saturday with no life outside of work. Sucks, too bad he didnt get that girl. Instead he took the path many Japanese take, the all work and no play path.

  • @aozora136 Actually, the anime states that he quit his job after realizing he's becoming stuck and not moving on. The novelization (still by Makoto Shinkai) states that he started working as a freelance coder.

  • LOL If it exists facebook

  • This sadly is reality and it bites... :( But when these things happen they can only make you stronger. Don't underestimate the human will to resolve!

  • i kinda wonder what would happen if he would run after her or she stayed and waited....

  • @emosasukelover222 They didnt know it was each other. They never made eye contact when they walked past. they just turned around because they felt the need too. But her not staying meant that it was just his imagination to him, like if they were meant to be, she'd be standing there when the train passed. But he realized its time to move on, hence why you see him smile when no one was there.

  • I cried hard after watching this for the first time. Not because of what happened in it. That was sad and all but after i finished this I got hardcore depressed about all the time I wasted in highschool. If there was a way to go back and fix it I would do it over and over again to get it right. I'm going to turn 19 in a month and I already feel a lifetime of regrets and missed chances already.

  • this story... i love it, yet it frusturates me. something similar has happened to me. i didnt let go of the ones i loved. i held on for dear life, and man we barely made it. we may not be as close but, we are still there. and one of my friends, we DEFINITELY arent as close, because we are closer. i know him better. he said so himself. the difference between my story and this story is i held onto many people. if i had that choice at the end i would snatch them up in my arms and hold them tight

  • Antagonist/bad guy in this movie: The Japanese train...a contraption on wheels that destroys the chance of love. :(

  • Great Anime! Makoto Shinkai is the Best !

  • i love this anime story and i love this song.thanks for upload this ending song, domo arigatou!.

  • Someone!! Please what's the name of that song?

Because in the movie there is that song without the singing voice, but i wanna know the name of the singer and of the song!! Please help!!

  • @naruTatsuki

One more time, One more chance - Masayoshi Yamazaki

  • @avetisova

    Thaks * hug*

  • 4:32 onwards always kills me inside.

    Every single time ;_;

  • I one of the few, but I didn't really "like" this movie. I don't understand why they longed for each other all of their lives because the relationship never seemed that serious or deep to me. And then they're adults but he decides not to go after the girl he's wished for all of his life (well, so far).

  • @unfrostedcereal

To me, their relationship seemed very deep, maybe not serious, but deep nonetheless

  • @unfrostedcereal

sometime things that seem so near but so far

it like 5cm from you and you can pick it up any second but it far like the sun and the moon never shine at the same time

  • @vietanh797

some times the moon and the sun do shine together xD

  • @unfrostedcereal yea i dnt get it either :| .....the animation and character expression is what makes the movie sad :(

  • im looking for the ending to all episode 1, 2 and 3. Does anyone know where i can find it ?

  • it was just meant to be....... but fuccc thos trains maaan. Who the fucc invented those contraptions anyways.

  • I would've ran after her.

  • man the beginning of this part get to me every time more than any other parts in this anime... that is when u know it is over for sure.. it is the way they talk to each other... also why did he not follow her after the trains passed...

  • i just want to say that i bet she married someone with some serious resemblance to her old friend. AHAHAH

  • Oh God this movie was wonderful. The art is absolutely beautiful, and the whole theme and message of the film was so realistic. It's depressing, but in a very bittersweet way. I tear up every time I see the very ending of it, when Takaki sees Akari at the railroad crossing but walks the other way...because he's finally learned to move on. Simply amazing, this movie really deserves more exposure.

  • This is a beautiful movie! It should have come to cinemas here in the west!

  • N000!! i ending is s00 sad!! man! wait--is she with an0ther man at 3:28 ?

g0sh! i h0pe they get t0getherr in their next life!

  • @000stophating
if i remember correctly, she marries another man :(, real life doesn't always have happy endings T-T
• Yes . 'Moving On' is the perfect word to describe the situation . At the end of episode 1 Takaki already decided that he will 'MOVE ON' . At episode 2 when Kanae tried to confess, Takaki calmly glaring at her with his harsh eye saying 'Dont say anything' since he knew that Kanae was going to confess . Episode 3 has a lot of cut . The movie doesnt tell that he had 3 girlfriends already during his college life . Well , how do i know this ? I READ THE DAMN NOVEL . its much more detailed and deeper.

  • they have been looking and longing for each other but have finally went seperate ways

  • Best. Movie. Ever.

  • when i sat watching this and saw the ending i was just glaring at the screen going uhhh what but i think i get it now sorta

  • When Takaki continued on his way even after looking back and not seeing Akari there, doesn't it mean that he's moving on? If you think of it symbolically, it could possibly mean that

  • It more then likely does, Akari was getting married and was moving on with her life. After years of doing nothing but working to forget the pain of losing her. He woke up one day (in more ways then one), and realized that it was time to man up and move on.

The reason he smiled and kept on going is that he didn't need her anymore. Over the years their hearts kept on moving further and further apart. At that point, any relationship he would attempt to have with her wouldn't have been the same.

  • If you guys think the final scene is about the trains, you're missing the damn point.

  • Stupid Train! Stupid Train! Stupid Train!!! Why at that moment? Why!!!!???

  • i cant take it anymore , why does they ended up like that :'( . and i hate seeing that girl clinging with another man .. that just irritates me .. well .. this is Slice of Life anime alright .

  • @ThornberryKING its not that girl's fault.he promise her to write a letter to her,but since he didnt contact her for long time, she probably think that he already forgot about her.

  • The Story of that one was truely a sad one, but in a speacial way a beautiful story for real as well.

After the ending i just thought , that these things could happen in the real life samely.

    Poor Takaki Tōno :(

He really loved her and wasnt able to forget her, and only cause of these faggot trains there wasnt any happy ending for him.

If any1 maybe knows some movies like this one pls PM me <3

  • @19Ren91 You can try watching "the girl who leapt through time" (in case you havent) That movie is sad, and also as a sad ending.

  • This song is so beautiful <3 What's it called?

The end was so sad ):

I saw this movie quite a while ago... I skimmed through most of it because I didn't understand it. But it still made me cry.

Now that I probably will understand all of this... I want to watch it again (:

  • yea same lol, when the movie finished i just sat there all confused and sad ;[

  • One more time, One more chance by Masayoshi Yamazaki

  • haha yeah, confused and sad :]

    thanks, justin! :]

  • @emdaang "One more chance, One more time"

  • afffff sad end =___________=

  • is this a movie or what?

  • its a really good movie with three parts

  • Comment removed

  • I have watched this scene oabout 5 times and have also cried 5 times. The story of Kanae's unrequieted love just makes my eyes well up; more so than the other main charecters.

  • FYI: The crossing pictured in the last scene is just south of Shinjuku on the Odakyu line between Yoyogihachiman and Sangubashi stations. You can see it on google street view! I'd link it here, but for some reason it won't post.

  • Oh, nice! Found it. Made me a bit sad ;_;

  • I saw it twice and I cried both times

  • this is why i stopped watching movies like this, it is a well made movie.....but it depresses the hell out of me...i can really relate to the guy in this story to a degree.

  • this is the best anime !!!! ^^,

  • the overal ending was soo good but it was still ashame the 3rd part went on for like 5 minutes the director still managed to give a meaninful idea of what was going on but with a few extras scenes could have made it so much more

  • @withey11

yes the director had I think he said around 7 or 10 ideas for short stories, but ended up just sticking with these three. I would love to see them animated. I think I heard that with the DVD came a booklet explaining the characters much more, especially Tohno through college, but I bought my DVD used so I didnt get the cool pamphlet :|

  • this anime is a beautiful and sad reflection of life..

    it's an art...

  • Comment removed

  • The ending theme is playing in the background of the supermarket

  • man i cant breathe properly like something is caught in my throat

its so sad yett i can't cry, i just keep wondering and only a true masterpiece can do that

  • well said my friend. shinkai is a true visionary. all his movies are masterpieces. this one is especially good because of it's tragic honesty.

  • the scary thing is i didnt watch the movie - only like the ending music video - thats scary LMAO - i watched voices of a distant star - before i was like eh its bleh then when i watched it, it shut me up - i was like OMG. i think 5 cm per second is even better since i ne ver watched it and it made me sad plus i didnt want to watch it sincne i might cry and comtinue to question myself :)

  • oh well i would watch it, it's fantastic and you'll fully understand it's beauty. and check out his movie before it, "the place promised in our early days". =]

    question yourself in what sense?

  • favorite part of the entire mooovie

  • (TT^TT) Man.... this is just sad... but such is life. I recommend this anime to anyone and everyone in all seriousness. This film shows us the weaknesses and pain behind our mundane lives, something we all tend to avoid. It is truley a brilliant movie.

  • I guess he smiled because they got to see the cherry blossoms once more together even if its just for a few seconds.

  • @1wps3694

a year later, why didn't i think about that...

  • anime of reality...

  • Ok I know I've seen this agagillion times but.. every time I watch the scene when they pass right by each other I feel that my heart just right into my stomach. Really powerful movie. :) I love the smile towards the end..

  • "if our lives could be repleted, I would be at your side every time."

ho-ly crap, that's some powerful lyrics...

  • was he able to move on?

  • @adats01 well he smiled to himself soooo i guess he did

  • This is also one of the saddest things that most people go through, yet nobody ever talks about.

Almost everybody eventually drifts away from their high school friends in time after graduation. It is a fact that everybody learns eventually. Unless you have a resolve to marry someone from high school, you probably will never see any of your friends from high school ever again after graduation. The saddest part is when you notice it happening, but you can't do anything about it.

  • @Exarian Although its very sad, its at the same time very joyous to lead the separate lives we're all suppose to live. Some people will stay in our lives and others will drift away, buts thats just fine. That is the ultimate message of this ending when he smiles instead of running after her. He knew he found her again, but just kept walking on towards his future instead of his past.

  • @user71177

I don't think I can move on knowing the past is still unfinished. It's true that he can choose move on after but there is always this regret behind it. It was the main reason why he went into deep depression in the first place. There were just too many lost messages that didn't reach and that's what made this story very sad. If I was given a second chance like Takaki I would've done it differently. I think letting go of your soulmate is the worst decision you will ever make in life.

  • @Exarian Mwahaha, this is why you don't make friends.

  • @Exarian

you can say that 1 more time;P

  • @Exarian What? Just go and chill with em. Its that easy. Unless you only had two friends and one of them died in a car crash and the other moved to Canada.

  • that face at 4:54 is brilliant. It also pretty much sums up the movie.

  • yeah it does

  • Wow the song at the end of this movie has got to be the most depressing song I've ever heard.

  • I guess an upside to this is that it's possible that they can still get together...since they're close...kinda...

But I wouldn't know, since I haven't watched the whole movie.

  • Actually they can't because they have grown apart. If you saw the movie they kept in contact until Tono started to stop texting her. They both dated different people. The reason the girl left at the end was because she was already married and she did not want to have an affair. Thats why they can never be with each other, even though they are meant to be.
