There is no forcing anyone to be sterilized. If you are an ACTUAL transsexual, you yearn to have those horrid functions of the other sex removed from you. If you are not, you need not claim to be and no one will sterilize you. What you see is fakers complaining about being subject to the benefits awarded to actual transsexuals. @austinb963 It's not "half-way" It's 98%. Or are your sex organs 50% of your body? Besides the hormone treatments alters the sex organs too. Transgenderism is not some kind of "one-size-fits-all" situation. There is a spectrum. Some need less medical intervention than others to feel at home in their bodies. Some are very happy to be physically in between the sexes or maybe they have other medical conditions that means they can't do a surgery. What is between someone's legs is private

So essentially they are trying to prevent people who would like a sex change from reproducing. I'm assuming they're doing this in attempt to eliminate the production of people they feel to be inferior. Ironically, before the concentration camps etc. this is how the Nazi party dealt with the Jewish and other groups that ended up being targets of what we now call the holocaust.

It's hard to comprehend how something like this, robbing people of their HUMAN RIGHTS, is happening in Sweden (which is after all supposedly a very humane country by comparison). They need to do something about this ASAP!
@rg0057 its not on mine nor on a standard Swedish drivers-license (which are commonly used as "identity cards" it is on the passports but that is European standard. I believe sterility is a side effect from the sex-change operation, We can not really make a uterus produce sperm nor prostate carry a child so whats the point? It seems from the laws i find (Lag (1972:119) om fastställande av könstillhörighet i vissa fall) you need a permit for a sex-change since it leads to sterility not vice verse
@mittskolarbete It's not about that. You can't change your gender legally anywhere without your passport/ birth-certificate altered. So maybe it doesn't show anything on your drivers-license, for the law he still a female and wants to be a man.
And of course all sex reassignment surgeries lead to permanent sterility. But not all transgenders WANT a sex reassignment surgery. In Spain, the UK and in the USA you can have your legal sex changed without having surgery.
@mittskolarbete I was permanently sterilized in 2004. I was fine with that. It was MY choice and it should be a persons choice always to undergo a surgery with irreversible effects. But it should never be forced up on you by the government and that is what this whole petition is all about.
@rg0057 In an emergency situation, paramedics should be able to know the true gender of the victim for medical reasons without looking down their pants. That is one reason. If you are a pervert and want to enter the opposite sexes restrooms is another reason.
@InScienceITrust I agree that medical records should have the sex they were born with. That's a good point. The opposite restroom issue is very hard to monitor. Some people who are honest about what they associate as or have been surgically modified to would feel very repressed being forced into another restroom. At the same time, I can see perverts ruining that like they have so many other things. For example, adults dropping their kids off at schools can't use the restrooms any more (in US)

@InScienceITrust Right because when the paramedics are stopping the blood from flowing out of Love's head or wherever it is he's hurt, they're going to stop and say "Hey, can you tell me your social security number so that I can know what your gender is?" The only cases when it would be relevant (abdomen or genital injury) they're going to take his clothes off anyway. And trans guys like Love grow intersex genitalia from being on testosterone so he's no longer "female" anyway.

@InScienceITrust You obviously have no idea what Swedish ID cards look like. They don't have an "M" or and "F" on them. Only the passport has that. In Sweden gender is coded into the SS#. The medicine has already made his body male. It made his genitals intersex. It makes a the clitoris grow into a 6cm long penis that looks just like a penis and gets erections the same way.
@sillyyetsuccinct But Male and female bodies have many more differences than just the genitals. If you look at a naked body you can still tell if it's male or female if the genitals are covered. Love's body looks male. How is having a female gender marker going to make his body easier to understand for a paramedic? In PRACTICE they will see the SS# and just assume it's wrong if it's female.

The blood out the head issue is sarcastic rhetoric that does not progress this discussion. Blood flowing out the body is not a gender issue, where medicine or procedure it may be an issue, I am not a doctor so I can not supply you with specifics where gender may be important information. That was the first question I asked and ended with.

@funklemonde I could have made the decision not to have any treatment but first of all: I hated my body so much that I wanted to kill myself and second: I like to be treated as a female. And not as a male in females clothing.

I hated every part of being male. The bodyhairs, muscle-grow, no breasts, deeper voice, strong facial features (big jaw, browridge, nose etc.) my genitalia: everything!!! I HATED it. For me there were just two options: suicide or hormone replacement therapy and surgery. That how far it goes.

I had laser hair-removal treatment, hormone replacement therapy, sex reassignment surgery, breast implants, a tracheal shave, chin reshaping, jaw reduction, browridge contouring, browlift, scalp advancement and multiple rhinoplasties.
My first surgery was in 2004 and my last in 2009. But I knew that I was transgender since I was 4.

But it has one downside and that is that it only focuses on male to female transsexualism. I personally don't know any good websites about female to male transsexualism but they may be others here that do know one.

It's not only in Sweden honey, forced sterilization is still very common in most 'western countries'... They have the same law in Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, all countries in the European Union (except Spain and the UK) and Canada...
Even in the Netherlands (where I live) we have the same law. And we're supposed to be progressive and tolerant.
I am a transman in the USA, and I count on Sweden eventually being a haven of justice and compassion for me. It is where I yearn to live. Sweden, don't fail me; you are the light in my future.

If this becomes the case that we can change our gender on official documents to make ourselves feel better about ourselves, that is opening a can of beans which results in why have any gender designation at all on our license or ID. If you are able to get pregnant and have children, YOU SIR, are a women, not a man! It's unfortunate that you are not comfortable with that but on official documents I have no compassion for you. The M and F on the identity cards represent the persons biological sex, not your gender identity. As other comments are saying they don't put the M or F on the card just for the sake of it, it's for medical reasons and such. Personally I don't really have an opinion on the issue, and take neither ones side.

The confusing thing for me is (and I get in arguments with/yelled at by my gf for this) is I didn't know there was an internal man and internal woman. I see trans girls/ biological boys playing with dolls and stuff, but that just seems like one society's stereotype of what girls do, not essentially "girl."
@TheTerrorUforgot there's a difference between what someone feels like their gender is inside & society pushing stereotypical roles of male & female onto people. Even though a trans girl likes playing with dolls, the actually playing with the dolls does not define her gender as female, her gender is defined by her feelings of wanting to be/feeling female in a biologically male body regardless of liking/not liking dolls, and vise versa. I hope that makes sense, it's a very hard thing to explain.

I do however agree that it should be a choice wether you want your identitycard to say if you're a man or woman, but that you should get information about the consequences so that you can make what you think is the best decision. @austinb963 It's not "half-way" It's 98%. Or are your sex organs 50% of your body? Besides the hormone treatments alters the sex organs too. Transgenderism is not some kind of "one-size-fits-all" situation. There is a spectrum. Some need less medical intervention than others to feel at home in their bodies. Some are very happy to be physically in between the sexes or maybe they have other medical conditions that means they can't do a surgery. What is between someone's legs is private

För att göra det funktionsdugligt både för transpersoner och för t.ex. akutsjukvård så borde vi skaffa dubbla beteckningar, dvs MM,FF,MF och FM, där den första bokstaven är det könet man är född med och den andra bokstaven är könet man är. Det skulle nog minska problem med framtida medicineringar och dylikt.

So essentially they are trying to prevent people who would like a sex change from reproducing. I'm assuming they're doing this in attempt to eliminate the production of people they feel to be inferior. Ironically, before the concentration camps etc. this is how the Nazi party dealt with the Jewish and other groups that ended up being targets of what we now call the holocaust.

@rg0057 its not on mine nor on a standard Swedish drivers-license (which are commonly used as "identity cards" it is on the passports but that is European standard. I believe sterility is a side effect from the sex-change operation, We can not really make a uterus produce sperm nor prostate carry a child so whats the point? It seems from the laws i find (Lag (1972:119) om fastställande av könstillhörighet i vissa fall) you need a permit for a sex-change since it leads to sterility not vice verse

@mittskolarbete It's not about that. You can't change your gender legally anywhere without your passport/ birth-certificate altered. So maybe it doesn't show anything on your drivers-license, for the law he still a female and wants to be a man.
And of course all sex reassignment surgeries lead to permanent sterility. But not all transgenders WANT a sex reassignment surgery. In Spain, the UK and in the USA you can have your legal sex changed without having surgery.

@InScienceITrust I agree that medical records should have the sex they were born with. That's a good point. The opposite restroom issue is very hard to monitor. Some people who are honest about what they associate as or have been surgically modified to would feel very repressed being forced into another restroom. At the same time, I can see perverts ruining that like they have so many other things. For example, adults dropping their kids off at schools can't use the restrooms any more (in US)

@InScienceITrust Right because when the paramedics are stopping the blood from flowing out of Love's head or wherever it is he's hurt, they're going to stop and say "Hey, can you tell me your social security number so that I can know what your gender is?" The only cases when it would be relevant (abdomen or genital injury) they're going to take his clothes off anyway. And trans guys like Love grow intersex genitalia from being on testosterone so he's no longer "female" anyway.

@InScienceITrust You obviously have no idea what Swedish ID cards look like. They don't have an "M" or and "F" on them. Only the passport has that. In Sweden gender is coded into the SS#. The medicine has already made his body male. It made his genitals intersex. It makes a the clitoris grow into a 6cm long penis that looks just like a penis and gets erections the same way.

Love's body looks male. How is having a female gender marker going to make his body easier to understand for a paramedic? In PRACTICE they will see the SS# and just assume it's wrong if it's female.

The blood out the head issue is sarcastic rhetoric that does not progress this discussion. @funklemonde No of course not. If you read back you can see that I was talking about me as a boy in the past tense. And that I now live as a female.
I had laser hair-removal treatment, hormone replacement therapy, sex reassignment surgery, breast implants, a tracheal shave, chin reshaping, jaw reduction, browridge contouring, browlift, scalp advancement and multiple rhinoplasties.
My first surgery was in 2004 and my last in 2009. But I knew that I was transgender since I was 4.

And I'm very happy with the results of all the surgeries and treatments that I had and the fact that I'm now legally a female. I'm way more comfortable with my body and face than before. I can look in the mirror and see my true self...

It's not only in Sweden honey, forced sterilization is still very common in most 'western countries'... They have the same law in Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, all countries in the European Union (except Spain and the UK) and Canada...
Even in the Netherlands (where I live) we have the same law. And we're supposed to be progressive and tolerant.

If this becomes the case that we can change our gender on official documents to make ourselves feel better about ourselves, that is opening a can of beans which results in why have any gender designation at all on our license or ID. The M and F on the identity cards represent the persons biological sex, not your gender identity. As other comments are saying they don't put the M or F on the card just for the sake of it, it's for medical reasons and such. Personally I don't really have an opinion on the issue, and take neither ones side.

@GayLoveKicksAss Gender isn't physical, though. Gender is the social concept of behaviors expected of a biological sex, or at least that is how I understood it in all sociology courses I took.
The confusing thing for me is (and I get in arguments with/yelled at by my gf for this) is I didn't know there was an internal man and internal woman. I see trans girls/ biological boys playing with dolls and stuff, but that just seems like one society's stereotype of what girls do, not essentially "girl."

Even though a trans girl likes playing with dolls, the actually playing with the dolls does not define her gender as female, her gender is defined by her feelings of wanting to be/feeling female in a biologically male body regardless of liking/not liking dolls, and vise versa. I hope that makes sense, it's a very hard thing to explain.

@GayLoveKicksAss It is a very controversial issue, the M and F is only ment for your own safety. I do however agree that it should be a choice wether you want your identitycard to say if you're a man or woman, but that you should get information about the consequences so that you can make what you think is the best decision. It is a very controversial issue, but I want to make it clear that I support you to 100%, no hard feelings? :)

Why would you not keep your uterus? Take Thomas Beatie for example. He was born a woman, kept his uterus, his wife couldn't have kids, so he decided to become pregnant. And they're such a happy family!
You have the right to make the same decision.
A kid doesn't care if it came from a dad or from a mum. I mean, adopted parents came from a different body (than their parents) as well. Even if it came from a cabage it would not mind, as long as you're a loving family.
