  • So you replaced the geothermal hot water tank with a solarthermal hot water tank.

    1. What was the problem with the geothermal hot water tank?

    2. Why did the geothermal hot water tank have to be replaced?

    3. Is the solarthermal hot water tank more efficient than the geothermal hot water tank?

    4. What are the price differences?

    5. Can you post a video answering these questions and explaining so those of us considering installing a system can benefit from the answers?

  • I got an estimate of $7500 per ton, and our house will take 4 tons. And that's with horizontal trenching, which is cheaper than vertical wells.

  • So, 30 grand if there are no added costs for things the contractor couldn't see?

    Is your house large?

  • @MrFrozenCanuck

Supposedly that's it. No DeSuperheater+no buffer tank+no new electric water heater.

2200 sq ft in southern New Mexico.

I just found out on the BBB site, this contractor has a suspended license.

I'm going to have to find someone else.

  • How do you get into this? What coarses do you take to study? I do res. HVAC now but, want to own a business that's green.

  • I beleive training can be obtained from the manufacturer of the geothermal system. My training came from the Manufacturer ,Next Energy

  • You would think the supply transition at the air handler would be bigger to dampen the sound. But he did say you can hardly hear it

  • This is a retrofit, otherwise you would install larger duct work. As you mention, the larger the duct work the quieter the system.

  • Dude it's called flush cart! Looks great though!! Water Furnace makes the end all be all of Geo's!! Congrats

  • We are looking into having a Geothermal system installed in our home. We are in the process of getting qoute as we speak. I have already had "Water Furnace" give us a quote and I would like to know how happy are you with your system after one year?

  • Do the extra (2) pipe connections on top of the water heater go to a seperate coil inside the tank, or does it circulate potable water?

  • its potable water.... It circulates from the desuperheater into the tank. Its domestic water not a closed loop.

  • Thank you. I'm wondering, though, why it needs an extra set of pipes. Why not use an ordinary water heater with a tee connection at the inlet and, say, the drain valve.

    Great video, by the way!

  • You are correct, you could. However, it functions more efficiently, with larger pipe connections. I also wanted to convert to electric since I'm going to produce my own PV Solar. It also places the hot water at the top, my understanding is this works better since the HWH'ers element is towards the bottom.

  • I see. Thank you.

I think your neighbors will be coming over to take a hot shower!

  • Great stuff. Thanks! I recently started working in alternative energy HVAC and this is quite helpful getting me up to speed.

  • The hot water will be free but it will only reach the temperature of the hot gas coming from the aircon compressor any top up will be in form of the elec immersion heater.

  • fyi xpansion tanks shouldnt be mounted on there sides not trying to be a smart ass just sharing some info

  • You can bet that you'll have plenty of hot water in the summer.
