  • bongo in Salsa comes from bongo in Son and not from the bongo

of Changui but Salsa bands have used many songs from Changui

music to adapt them in Salsa like Ray Barreto did with "Pastorita",

for example, one his most popular songs ever.

the problem is with the new generation of Latino taking on from it is

now and not researching enough the roots of that music they love and

many call Salsa by mistake and cause of political circunstances that

forced to be the way it is now..."Salsa" hm

  • Anyone saying the bongo player is not right is just an ignorant

cause the music we call salsa comes from this music anybody

that have read a good book about the history of salsa will understand

so well that only we can show respect for everything and every single

note this band plays in this video cause bongo playing in changui

is diferent and they in couple different ways but also when this bongo

man plays his ("floreos") little solo phrases they are all ok and nice!!!

  • Jesus!- A video of cuban musicians playing awesome cuban music on cuban instruments and there are people from other countries saying the bongo player is not playing it properly! morons

  • I had a CD with these recordings at one time when I lived in Seattle. I lended my CD to my friend Steve, who moved back to Chicago. I moved to Las Vegas. I have not been able to locate another copy! The CD was great. Was it you, 2amuse? The sleeve said it was recorded on DAT on a rooftop in Cuba. Loved it!

  • I was just reviewing my favorites and this video is one of my first Youtube's favorites.- A rare changui tune, Real afro-cuban music.

What's the name of this song? It'S BEAUTIFUL!

  • thas the fukin nastiest bongo plaayer ever fuuuuuk everry 1 els

  • ME VOY PA ORIENTEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice playlist

search pellejo seco for more great cuban music

  • Fuck...!!! they rock

  • These guys have a earthy, groovin' feel that we all can only marvel at. Forget about any inadequacies in performance, these cats are happening.

  • the so called bongo player is not playing bongos, that is a "tumbadora" which is some form of bongo but it is an instrument in itself , and yes he is playing it right.

  • Yellowalicat those are called bongo del monte and are the traditional changui bongo, they are played differently than regular son bongo. They are also tunned lower and are bigger. Tumbadora is the real name for conga drums (not related to bongo). Not trying to school you or anything, just some friendly correction on my part. Peace

Buen trabajo 2amuse

  • Changui is much different than other styles I

    have heard! Great Music!

  • Love this! Great musicians!

  • the roots of salsa

  • that's some of the weirdest bongo playing i've ever seen. Is he playing the same song as the rest of the guys?

  • what does this comment mean? are you a musician?

  • yes i'm a musician of 30 years, although no expert in latin music. The bongo playing just seems weird to me, he seems to be in his own world and not playing to compliment the music

  • It seems like he gets off to a rough start, I must question if those bongos are even tuned. He is not playing a basic pattern as you may in salsa such as the "Martillo", heis doing a lot of "repiques" which are even used in salsa to add feeling to the tune, I think this guy is just full of feeling, and not that off except for the beginning, audio quality plays a big role in our perception,I think he is not bad just soulfoul, he probably does not like being held back by the basics

  • Actually, he started with some changui solos but went directly to martillo which isn't part of the changui style. Listen to the marimbula and tres and guayo. They are playing changui de pinga, pero esta bongocerro es tocando son.

  • this music is complicated I dont know where you are from but to understand the bongo player, you have to have cuban roots(atleast)This is the way to play the bongo with this type of music...its not common

Muchos vendrán a aprender.

  • Beautiful, and yes, I spotted that bongocero early on. He's done that before!

  • There is lots of great musical discussion going on here but... has anyone noticed how this cat RAPED those bongos? I haven't seen anything like that in my life. Have you?

  • yes!!!!! great!!!!

  • azuca

Gracias Mucahchos

  • Someboby, could tell me how this type of bass is called? Thanks

Gracias

  • do you mean the box that dude is playing cause if so thats a marimbola.

  • Thanks for the information CF201.

  • Marimbola, decendent from the west african Mbira

  • Genial!

    Este ritmo tiene candela!

  • all the stuff that came 2 oriente de cuba is hatian and dominican u can hear the influence of the dominican merengue and hatian meringue in it the son also came from the dominican rep but truly the cubans evolved it and made it hot

  • Lowfat80 speaks the truth he would know more than many since he is a perserver of Afro Latino musical folklore. But truthfully I as a Boricua have observed that Hatians have had there hand in the majority of Afro Caribbean Latino music. With Bomba from Puerto Rico west coast like yuba from Mayaguez, Dominican palo and Cuban Changui Haiti has had a strong influence in the development of our music.

  • The Changui has nothing to do with merengue, which was originaly from Puerto Rico!

However,el Son de la Ma Teora,XVI Century,Per haps, the first was played by the"Dominicas" sisters Teodora And Micaela Gines!Ask some cuban about it and some refuse to accept it ,that these sisters from Hispanola(La Espanola-now Santo Domingo)were the first Soneras!

  • soy dominicano, and I'm telling you that you are wrong

  • @trueuno1,logic is the art of validating a premise,if I'm wrong,prove it.

    First,give the historical facts,(according to ,state reference)once,you justify your a assumtion,then,we talk.

  • The splendor of this provincial music denotes the enormous contribution of the african slaves the and spaniards,in the 1800s.The nematodes across, the Marchado,Prio and Batista followers never supported this type of music.

  • Hi. I recorded this video back in 2004 in Yaterras/Guantanamo. I can see its a lot of emotions in the comments on this one. If you need more changui just check out more of this meeting with this changuiceros on my site.

    Chao/Janne

  • The Changui is from yatera, Guantanamo, roots Canary isles,Bantu and afrofrech brought by the Haitian to eartern coast of cuba.

  • This is the grandfather of all latin music from the caribbean. Without it,all the popular latin styles would not exist, everything from Mambo to Reggaeton!Cuba is ground zero of latin /afro-caribbean music. Respect is due. Changui is not so rare, but videos of its performance certainly are! So,thank you for sharing it,its a joy to see!

  • Do you know what you are talking about? First go to the Instituto Fernando Ortiz,Vedado,La Habana Cuba.Read Maria Teresa Linares and learn. Then talk.

  • I can see cultural tensions here are tight. I am actually a Cuban-American, and have visited Cuba many times to see my family. Please don't hate my country, what Castro has done is unforgivable, but I love my Cuba, and one day dream of a free, happy Cuba where communism no longer exisits

  • Music is the soul of every country. Help make everyone tap into the music. The rest will follow.

  • definitely.. there's no skin color, race, etc.. when it comes down to music.

  • @JDSWriter I'll tell you what, why don't you stop visiting your family and you'll see how much faster communism disapperars.

  • Wow isn't youtube great for discovering world music!!! I just typed in music Cuba and here it is. Joe Strummer and John Peel must be smiling down on this.

  • MUY BIEN!

  • very nice...thank you.

  • Muy Buena rola! Saborrrr! Saludos de Mexico a la Habana.

    Hasta La Victoria Siempre!

  • Hey! They are not!starving because Castro, is because the embargo EEUU impouse, theres not enoght food for everyone thats way the rationed food, you fool! viva México cabrones!!

  • So why are people deserting the island on innertubes?

  • because of ignorant people like you

  • maybe they just want a good suntan !!

  • Bullshit mexican commie

  • Fuck you! They have food! they have all the food they need, now where does it go? to castro and his government. SO FUCK U U DONT KNOW SHIT!

  • pinche peredista callate joto por joto

  • if you think its all because of the embargo , how come there is no milk, plantains, fruits, rice, beans, etc. all that can be grown in cuba as it was before castro, if you have never lived there, shut your mouth, and viva mexico? if there is so much to give vivas about why are you and the rest of the 20 million here and why do you keep crossing our borders illegally? what a nerve !!

  • love cuba! why doesn't the US embrace cuba? i'm tired of this! i want to visit!

  • It doesn't because Cuba is run by that communist bitch Castro & his brother. When it is free, that's when I'll go. Right now, I dont feel like seeing my family and my people suffering over there.

  • your family and your people are suffering in south florida, what has Alfonso or Pepe Fanjul done for your people? or the people of the domican republic! at least papi castro gave the people healthcare!

  • I really don't feel like starting up again but whatever. First of all the healthcare thing is a crock. He gives them free healthcare alright, in the shittiest rathole fuckin hospitals. Second of all my family is suffering in CUBA! Want me to spell it out? C-U-B-A. They are starving because Castro gives them rationed food. My aunt has to go over there once in a while to give them the $20 they need to live decently.

  • I'm really sorry to hear that... you know, at times I think of moving to Cuba because of the people and the music and what not.. but when I hear stories like this I just.. I don't know.

  • Well, in my personal opinion, you should not move their. There is no freedom of speech or expression. If you would like a Cuban musical experience either visit the country, or move to miami. I would not visit it because I believe that gives money to Castro, but thats your choice. Glad to help out one who loves our culture! :) Check out therealcuba(dot)com for more info

  • wow.. I see. I LOVE CUBA, How I wish I was born in Cuba (Not that I'm not satisfied with who I am now..) And yeah, I agree there are a lot of cubanos in Miami.. but still you can tell miami is part of America.. as it is.

  • thanks for posting. does anybody know what the box playing the bass line is called...is it traditional for changui or just homemade?

  • It's called a marimbula, and is used in Changui as well as in the Domincan Republic (traditional merengue), Jamica (mento), Haiti and Colombia. Basically it's an overgrown descendant of the African kalimba ("thumb piano").

  • it might be a cajon???

  • DJSHILLY18 NA KID THATS NOT A CAJON

  • Muy bonito....Como puedo conseguir esa musica?

  • I love how its sounds, como decimos aqui esta de ahuevo!, jaja!
