She was in a bad mood one day and tried to bite our other dog and managed to bite me instead, and I had a bruise the size of my fist for several weeks. Imagine if she'd done that do a baby who can't defend itself! Not saying that the dog WILL bite, but it's always best to be careful around babies bcoz you never know for sure.

For the record, the human mouth contains over 500 strains of bacteria, all of which could potentially harm an infant. A dog's mouth contains around the same number of bacterial strains, but only a very small fraction of these are harmful to humans and most (such as rabies) would be absent in well-cared for dogs. A baby has a much greater chance of developing a disease from being kissed by another human than by a dog.
