I think the only way to learn (any) language other than your native well is to use it. More you use the language you're learning is the better for you. Even if you live in Japan for 100 years but if you don't use it there's no progress. There's no magic.
Hey, enjoyed your video. Are you an Australian?, I'm not sure but I thought I heard some Australian accent coming through, you say MaiShu the same way I do, I am an Ozzie too. :)
Since you're in Japan, try talking to other Japanese people. For reading and writing, you'll find websites, blogs, etc. on the internet. You'll get used to Japanese expressions as well train your vocabulary, reading comprehension, and kanji. For kanji writing practice, a pen and paper is probably the best practice. Try keeping a diary everyday. Sorry if I didn't help that much, but I hope you find something I wrote useful.
I`m using my keitai alot, and I find the predictive text helps, I`m also studying for the kanji kentei, I still have a long way to go. I really find that this vlog helps me focus my energy on productive output, writing a few notes before I decide to shoot would also help. Thanks heaps! yoroshiku!
watashi no nihongo ha mada mada dakara, chanto oshieru koto ga dekinai to omoimasu. demo, yokattara, oshiete mimasu. mada heta dakara, eigo de oshiete agemasu.
Since most of my studying comes from self-studying, my resources are very limited. My listening comprehension comes mainly from music and visual media (mainly anime and dramas). It's actually rather useful if one has a somewhat solid foundation in the language (something you don't lack at all).
The feedback on this post has been really amazing thanks for posting your comment, I really appreciate it. I think I have probably been missing out on a lot of media like anime and music, somethings that`s going to have to change. Self directed study is the way to go but you need to draw on lots of resources, right?

I recommend you to go for a drink with your Japanese buddies! People talk a lot when they drink..
And I also think listening to music is a good way to learn any language if you like music. Try to sing along!
