Buddy Holly wasn't controversial at all really, especially not compared to the likes of Elvis and Little Richard, the adulst never really thought he drove them wild, people in Lubbock encouaraged him, including his parents...
They need to make one on the Bopper. In 1958 he already had plans for a music videos. He may not have lasted too long at the mic, but behind the scenes he was Rock's first pioneer.
I think giving it 25% is a bit of a stretch! However the one thing that did come through 100% was Buddy's self-confidence in himself, and his music. That is why 50 years after his death, his music is still very much alive. (Some sources say that there are over 100 versions of That'll Be the Day)
yes, there are many elements that are factually incorrect, but it still gets a point across. if it weren't for the movie, i wouldn't have cared to find some records and tapes and fall in love with them, and i wouldn't be on this page!
Actually, Maria Elena was indeed pregnant and had a miscarriage after Buddy's death; they did actually get that correct (unless the thousands of publications and interviews out there have it wrong). That's why she didn't travel with him on that tour - Buddy insisted she stay home because of her being pregnant.
I enjoyed this film gary busy did a good job i dont see any other actors stepping up to film the buddy holly story again but what puzzles me i maybe wrong buddy hollys guitar neck was maple and not rosewood ? and they used a rosewood neck fender stratocaster instead of maple any sujjesitons ?
..and the name on the pickup truck was Holly's Tiles, should have been Holley's Tiles, and also they had mountains where there aren't any, factually incorrect film.
The Strat in the movie is clearly from the 70s (big headstock, different Fender logo) and he only plays it during this scene. For most of the film he's playing a white early/nid 70's Fender Telecaster and Buddy Holly NEVER played a Tele. Also the amp he is using is a Fender Twin from roughly 1963 which was after Holly's death. It's a fun move but not very accurate in many ways. That's kinda what's so fun about it!
Religious leaders say he's corrupting the youth of America. Psychologists feel he's creating mass hysteria. Police say he insights rioting. They think he's crazy, even dangerous. He's just twenty years old, and yet he's one of the most important men in America. He's going to change the future of a whole generation. His name is Buddy Holly, and this is his story.
ok so as a child i watch la bamba and i've always wanted to watch this movie. I was courious about his life. last night i saw it for the first time! It was a good movie but i actually expected more. I was hopeing to see the person portraying richie valens but i could hardly see him. I also expected the movie to talk about peggy sue but i didn't which is weird. and lastly like la bamba i was hopeing the movie would go further into his wife finding out about buddy holly's death and the funeral.
i watched the film last night on tv and i want to know the name of the song "holly" plays when the 2 little boys come in the room to get their guitar fixed. cheers if you could let me know :)
you know i've listened to buddy holly's music and i think Gary Busey sang his songs too rough and it didn't sound like buddy holly. I agree with you about marshall crenshaw.
@ryanmacdaddy1000 Because Busey had the fucking leading role in this film you idiot. Crenshaw played Holly in a Ritchie Valens film and only appeared on screen for less than 5 minutes. Sorry if I sounded a little rude there.
I saw this movie on television in 80's I was then on 5th grade. I was born 1971 but i dig Buddy Holly music. He is my influence when it comes to music. I'm into punk rock but a lot of early punk rockers in the late 70's where influenced by 50's and 60's music. And Buddy had this 3 Chords songs. The same chords that Punk Rock has. If not for Buddy and 50's Rock and Roll, there will never be Punk Rock at all. We owe a lot to the 50's.
Seriously, does anyone know where I can watch/download this movie. Its ridiculous, my bank ain't lettin' me buy stuff on the internet, i've look all over in every dvd shop, i've downloaded 2 torrent, they both didn't work, looked all over the internet, e.g.
gary busey did a great job looks&sounds just like hjm the real buddys wife was pregnant when he died what did she have is the kid in showbusiness today
Incited riots? Really?? Man Id love to see that! .......corny-ass narrator. ......this movie was HUGELY fictionalized. Its good tho cuz it helped keep Buddy in peoples consciousness. But its fictionalized.
"My Love's Bigger Then a Cadallac" How many people today would understand that line? Those cars were HUGE......at one time. Gary Busey had Buddy Holly down pat. I have played the real Buddy and Gary side by side. You can't hear the difference.
Really got to disagree with there,Gary is no way the best interpreture of Buddy Holly,I saw Buddy in at The Duchess and this was done by a guy called Dean Elliot this gfuy was good but still a long way short of the REAL Buddy, there is no one to replace the REAL Buddy..
Why don't you go pay a buck at the video rental and watch it? Damn America is lazy and cheap! You'd really want to watch an entire movie with the quality of a fuzzy porn channel, in ten minute bits, than pay to watch it? Please.

One of the WORST Rock N roll Movies ever made.
Reasons:
Changing the Crickets Names Bad
When did Buddy Holly ever Play a Telecaster.
Movie could been done a lot better.ALOT.
The Last concert Buddy Holly's Traveling Crickets backed all bands. This movie was a big let down If you know the history of rock n roll.
