My father and stepmother had this album and I used to listen to it when I was in Middle School. I also remember seeing Osibisa as the musical guest on the Marty Feldman Show back in the seventies.
yaaay.....this was the first thing i ever heard from osibisa and got hooked right away. i was 13 years old.....seems like a different life it has been so long.
Still fresh sounding after all these years. We used to rock out on this stuff in high school in California in the 70's! What track was "Criss Cross Rhythms, Exploding with Happiness" from?
@KirkMaule ... we gonna start these happy vibes right from the root; and the root is: early one morning, in the heart of Africa! We call this..... THE DAWN !! (got it on vinyl and CD)
Every time I put these vinyls on my parents got sick and tired of my dancing all over the house and making the floor shake. I was trying to make neighborhood hip to it. I'll still keep it to myself but will still make the floor shake, but with less frequency. That's OK, I'll give that to my grandchildren.
My first taste of these fanatstic guys was way back in 1972.having just bought their first album, blew my brains away. But where is Teddy Osei these days,he is a genius, and of course the wonderful Robert Bailey. Sigh oh well.
Osibisa was amazing, unique and powerful.. Teddy seems to be still leading the band.. But the original formation was worth pure gold.. Dell Richardson was such a tasty and virtuoso guitarist; Spartacus's bass tone was growly and funky, and Loughty was also an important part of the original sound, the horn section sounds larger than life.
@titanus49 Teddy is still around.I contacted him a few months back re doing a concert in New Zealand. I use to follow them all over London '72 to.Last time I saw them was in Stratford before I left for here.Time before that was the Kings Head in Romford!!! Wonderful days and always took my whistle!! And Large Smelly Dog of course!!!
i have all OSIBISA records and the music is fantastic we had a native playing in this very famous band his name is Rober Bailey. This band came from London England and is still there touring around the world i wished they could have visited our country Trinidad & Tobago they would get a reception fit for a king because we have African roots here. In fact yesterday (1/1/09 was Emancipation Day here in Trinidad. So OSIBISA "s music will live on and on until the end of the world.
Robert Bailey was such an amazing keyboardist and organ player. Very few people know about him, but I also grew up listening to this music... he deserves to be recognized as one of the greatest Hammond players ever... he was a strong influence for me.
could someone PLEASE post the song the title of which I forget but the words are:"we are going heaven knows where we are going, we will get there heaven knows how we will get there, we know we will. Thanks
de fato,Ozibisa não perde pra nenhuma banda progressiva da época.Eles são extremamente rítmicos,são uma grande mistura do funk e o rock progressivo.Excelente.
discovered Osibisa 'bout 1978. Still looking for the album with the africa rain song and "we will get there, heaven knows how but we'll get there" love to find them on youtube.
Yes, my second comment. I own this album. I love it. I wonder if there is a remake or CD out there, anybody? Is Beautiful available on video..gotta search and hear every Osibisa song.
