See, that's one opinion. I'm saying that, based on the comments I've seen and read on other videos, 4 is highly regarded (seeing as it's the only one that truly fits the theme of the season - schoolkids singing about "life in the hole"), as well as 1 (the original, and still the best). 3 is usually all over the place - some love it, and some don't. 2 tends to be on the middle-lower spectrum, while 5 sounds like a Law And Order-esque procedural. That's the point I'm making.

So many people seem to rate season 4's intro pretty low, yet I'd rank it in the top 2 as it has a fairly haunting, macabre sound to it which suits the season perfectly! That, and the fact that it is 5 boys from Baltimore helps add to the show's authenticity too.

My order of preference is 1, 4, 2, 3, 5.

There is a real rush of excitement when the intro notes to The Wire theme start, I wish I could forget it all and watch it again without knowing what will happen!

Vocally is this is richer than the others, and I like the musical texture - that doesn't necessarily make it better than the others but its my fave of the three. Love the sax solo as the dancer laces up and City Hall pans into view - do you think it's any coincidence that Pelecanos' name pops up in the credits just then...
