You can download something nasty that "upgrades" firmware not only in your CD drive, but in all your home and install remote controls for front doors, kitchen fire, and all available appliances in your house. :D

if u have a webcam it installs with the software called BigDog from a company named Vimicro which may be the camera manufaturer try disabling it in ur startup by using MSCONFIG at the command line ( RUN > CMD ) under the startup tab

Register on Sophos' website and download their Anti-Rootkit app. Also, Avira standalone Anti-Rootkit detector is excellent. DO NOT get Panda Anti-Rootkit. It attempts to change settings in memory if you use the boottime deep scan. It accesses memory so as to report on your activities to Panda. A free app isn't supposed to do that. Avoid.

I just read that on certain HP machines, any LINUX based Boot CD will be denied access due to HP's DRM technology built into it's hardware.

Won't allow a scan, update, cleaning, Nothing!

If true, that SUCKS!! Kaspersky, Bitdefender, and many other popular Boot Cds are Linux based.

I personally prefer Bitdefender. It does EVERYTHING automatically.

Avira with Malwarebytes is a superb combination. I use those myself, two programs that practically could work like little software partners. Like Batman and Robin in anti-malware/virus form and instead of fighting criminals, they fight malware. Dunna dunna dunna dunna ... =)

Be careful using this disc obviously the only option is delete or rename, well i tested it on a virtual machine and where one of the viruses had infected the system files it renamed the system files meaning the computer was completely unusable however if you did a report first so it gave you some idea of what it would do before you did it and it didn't detect any thing in system files go for it.

When you were scanning with MBAM and that avira message popped up, it WAS detected by the rescue disk which is why the file extension was .XXX - that's what avira renames it to so you can't execute it

Could you use Avira, Malwarebytes and superantispyware to actively protect your computer like you would with another Antivirus product say like Norton or would it caue a conflict?

Also you can manualy Update Norton with Live Update packages direct from their website (Symantec Website) I did that before just to see what they were and I did it on my PC at home where it had no Internet access and it worked as I found that it actually did update Norton!

Avira will conflict with Norton but not Malwarebytes or superantispyware, they're like secondary anti virus softwares that does not conflict with the "big" ones like AVG, Norton, Panda, Bit Defender, Mac fee and Avira...etc

No, they don't have any firewall.

You could try Comodo Firewall, it's a good one and it's free.

I keep my firewall in safe mode incoming and outcoming and never had a prob. I actually had a virus that even kaspersky dident find..I had to manually delete it. Thankfully, the firewall told me it blocked something from taking a picture of my screen. I then located the virus, deleted it. In the same folder, I found about 10 pictures token of my pc when I was away. Yea, I swear I did. Most were downloading music though, lol! Its nice to know what viruses do to your computer, and what they did =)
