In England pump gas now costs about $10 per imperial gallon. Diesel fuel costs more but gives better mpg. I am amazed that people are still putting effort into gas-guzzlers such as these. As to the Veyron, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole even if I were a billionaire. Motor racing ought to be altered so that one is only allowed a certain amount of fuel in (say) a 24 hour race. If this were done the gas-hogs would never finish :-)
@techdavey1000 If you don't like "gas guzzlers" why are you watching this video instead of hugging a tree? In fact, do you have any idea how much oil was used just to make your computer and get it to you so that you can use it to suggest there should be limits on how much (oil derived) fuel racing engines should be allowed to use?
If people want high horsepower engines that use alot of gas, and they can afford it, let them have their fun.
NICE video. I have a LS2 GTO that I just rebuilt with the same Compression Ratio forged pistons, forged H-beams, forged Ferrea valves and ARP2000 hardware throughout. I currently have the MP112. Any idea as to what the ideal boost would be? I'm concerned with over boosting and making it pump hot air and loosing more power.
Also, ur HP dyno results are with or without Meth injection? What sorta AF ratios are u running?
It's a bad sonofabitch that's for sure, I do not like seeing that tensioner jumping around at about ~6000-6500 RPM though. I hear the blower note change too everytime it stumbles. Was there a little bit of ignition or fueling trouble?
@IDRIVEAG8GT - No fuel/ignition issues. They were trying different pulleys and pushing that belt to the max. Improvements have been made since them to avoid that issue. Standard Magnuson Kits on stock-to-slightly modified cars will never encounter that tensioner problem.
@aszilagyi4292 We were testing a few different things during these pulls. ie - different pulley set ups and pushing the boost way up. That only happens at very high RPMs on this particular engine. Normal Magna Charger kits do not experience any pulley hop.
If you want a reliable car for the street why is compression so high with supercharger 10 5 1 on 13 lbs boost is a lot for a street car are you having any trouble with detonation what is your egt like. Just curious what is done to block
This engine was built for power AND it's still driveable everyday, although, it packs a very big punch and produces way more torque than you need 95% of the time. A Magna Charger on a normal engine is phenomenal to drive.
@marek0086 Intergrated air to water intercooler. It runs a heat exchanger in front of the radiator to cool the water. Check it out on magnacharger com
i think because it wasn't really made for boost is why the comp is so high. or it represents more of what a factory engine would do with an upgraded cam. most stock lsx's have high compression, therefore low boost. they want str8 pump gas. no meth i believe. very streetable!
We tried some Meth, with only a few tiny changes and it did not make a significant difference. The car IS going to be driven on the street, so pump gas was the goal
Also just looked at my dyno sheet and I make ~400fwhp@3k..Put some Meth on that thing, crank the timing and it should be close to 850prob. more, now that is SICK. Something else that surprises me is the CR is a little high?I am no engine building expert byno means& certainly dont holda candle tothe knowledge and respect that KD posesses so dont get me wrong, but much more timing could be thrown @ it with less comp. say like 9:1, but again iam no expert andI am sure if its 10.5:1its fora reason.
Nice setup! Although I would expect more from the 122 on a 404ci. From my calculations after going through my heavy drivetrain and wheels my 500whp silverado with a little 112 on 364cubes is around 650fwhp at only 8-9psi and I am running PIG rich a around 11.2-11.4. WHat is the timing set at, that makes a HUGE diff. But the TQ that low is EXTREMELY impressive. It takes mine till about 3500 to hit ~600fwtq. 404 setup is impressive, but I think there HAS to be more in it.
It is not much taller than the giant stock nylon intake manifold. Fits under almost any hood without modification. I believe the Corvette is the only one that comes close.
Whipples and Kenne Bell Super Chargers are "SCREW" style. They are true air compressors versus the "ROOTS" style that is virtually an Air Pump. The Roots style makes power instantly while the Screw style really starts to work at higher RPMs.
Might I reccomend an AMAZING Torque Converter Company? ProTorque. They are in NY and their shit is TITS! It does what they claim. It will improve 2-tenths over anything TCI (if you have traction). In a stock LS1 Camaro, it will improve 1/4-mile times by 4-tenths (w/traction, of course).
You should be able to install it in a weekend no problem. EVERYTHING is included in those Magnuson kits! No stupid trips to the hardware store. Good Luck.
Dear Lord! Thank you for sharing that with us. I feel blessed just to have heard KD speak! I grew up reading about his shop and their projects in Chevy HP magazines. Way cool.
Props for using the Maggie over a turbo or twin-screw...there are ways to get more power but for streetability, reliability, and ease of duplication for the average car guy using off the shelf mail-order parts, that is a sweet combo! -eg
A roots blower makes better power down low where most of the driving occurs. Yes a twin screw mas the potential to make more power up top, but that was not what we were looking for with this engine.
Fuel Mileage is just fine as long as you are not into boost 24/7. Driving around town you barely have to crack the throttle and the internal bypass valve (standard on all superchargers) allows you to drive just fine.
