The USS Caron was our was our relief ship in 1984 for our CentAm cruise to Panama. We sat off the coast of El Salvador and Nicaragua for 4 months. So glad to see her. I have a picture of her on station.

To correct your ignorance - I was referring to the ships themselves. As you watch the Rooskie's ship hit the US ships, you see the Russian boat bounce and lean, whereas the camera on the US vessel does not shake....If I was on the boat I would be scared of the crazy Russians too..

For instance that vessel that collided into the USS Caron could've been testing the integrity of their hulls in comparison to a modern U.S. navel vessel. Other incidents like Soviet Bear, Backfire and Black Jack strategic nuclear bombers approach U.S. borders to learn how fast American intercepting forces respond. The same is true with the "cat and mouse" game the U.S. and Soviet navel forces. They learn from their encounters.
Just makes you wonder what would have happened if the situation was reversed. If Russia sailed a destroyer within 7 miles of New York City. Probably not a good scenario, I would guess.

In case if Amerian side would fight back, a group of TU-22M3s armed by anti-ship missiles was awaiting on closest airfield. This particular case was very well depicted in Russian sources.

Merely two anti-ship missiles are enough to send a destroyer on the bottom. But americans, anyway, would not win. It's the common sence, because the US ships had sailed into the USSR waters. They could be easy intercepted and arrested as intruders, if the Soviet authorities would wish so. Thanks to mr. Gorbochov and to his perestroika. Otherwise, the incident didn't finish only by ramming.

Other incidents like Soviet Bear, Backfire and Black Jack strategic nuclear bombers approach U.S. borders to learn how fast American intercepting forces respond. The same is true with the "cat and mouse" game the U.S. and Soviet navel forces. They learn from their encounters.
