  • Ian Curtis's ghost made 211 accounts to like this

  • In my lifetime, I've listened to this song probably 500 times since 1977. I actually had the album cover hung on my wall along with Bowie Heroes and Laurie Anderson Big Science.

  • one of my favorite songs when i was high school.

  • and ishtar dances..........

  • the comments to this song are among the most ridiculous ever seen. It remains a good number.

  • Dostoievsky would love it !

  • @ELEIADEvideo Haha, He might think iggy pop is the idiot he was speaking of.

  • I woke this morning and this song was running in my head.

    got up and cranked it.

    i fuckin love this song!

  • and 1 more thing and get this right you fuckers, david bowie was and is now the most gifted and talented man that ever assisted someone to make write and produce music. i would plop down at DAVID BOWIES FEET AND LICK THEM CLEAN. i don't care what you might think or say, i am expressing my opinion and thatz that!!!!!!1 PEACE :)

  • hey you fucking bastards why don't you all get a real life instead of slammin this guy or that guy they were more sucessful than most of you fuckers will ever be. bowie was the most deep deep expressive music man of all time he was asked to help guys like iggy and tone of others to produce something that will sell. seee bowie could give a flying fuck about any of you rock slammers he knew his talent would propel others into the limelight. so look ans see they all had the most talented man alive!

  • Yo Iggy, I'm really happy for you, I'm gonna let you finish, but Bowie's Red Money is one the best songs of all time!

  • @chapaev36 totally agree. I believe most people talking about Ian Curtis death and for the last song he heard etc think that "the idiot" is a song

By the way Ian Curtis was a great artist

    So is Iggy Pop too

  • Apparently every single song on this album is the last song heard by Ian Curtis of Joy Division. Can people please shut the hell up about this.

  • @chapaev36 Yeah but thats whats made this album a cult classic for this generation, but I know they should be talking about how Bowie & Iggy both legged it to Berlin in 1976 & invented the 80's!!! LOW, Heros [alot like The Idiot] Lodger, Lust for life! all classic albums & a legand of a Rock n' roll story!!

  • i was in high school in erie pa and bought this on vinyl when it first came out. it got some aol play. fm stations like that simply do not exist anymore. played on a good system of that day, this track was powerful.

  • Can anyone explain to me what this song is about?

  • @04callwilk1 yes.

  • @salgoudsamoht please do.

  • @04callwilk1 Heroin.

  • @04callwilk1 Oedipus and the Virgin Mary.

  • This is a very Bowie-sounding song. Obviously Bowie wrote and scored it, and Iggy just sang.

  • @wandererlain Bowie did this same song on his Lodger album called 'Red Money'!

  • @handsomedevil98 I'm pretty sure bowie wrote all of the songs on this album.

  • @handsomedevil98 accept for nightclubbing

  • bowie made red money from the lodger-album from this...

  • I love this rekkid... it's very bizarre, although nowhere near the Stooges' level... and who really gives a fuck whether Ian Curtis killed himself to it or not?! Not me...

  • I came here to hear the song that Ian Curtis choose to say goodbye...

  • @blackrabbitcux I did the same thing.

  • So what the FUCK is Iggy doing in those fuckin awful, embarassing, degrading car insurance commercials on UK tv? Does he need the money THAT badly? Royalties not enough?

  • @godfreyih How much are you paying to hear this song??

  • @godfreyih He got payed fuck all back in the day,

I think he deserves some cash... would you rather Iggy Pop be making lots of money or one of these new contemporary sell-out pieces of shit?

  • @godfreyih Iggy is a self-appointed man-whore. And he loves it. And I love him. Anyway, those adverts are quite funny. He even participated in a German hardcore porn video, made by "John Thompson". Don't know which one, though.

  • much better than Red Money.

  • @pythonbyte Nah, Iggy is great but there's only one David Bowie ;)

  • @nmcorp this vinyl was found in ian's phonograph when he was found dead.

  • here's to my past- I am Sister Midnight. A ridiculously appropriate soundtrack to my life at 17. Thank you Mr. Jones and Mr. Osterberg......all aboard for good times.

  • @ariellamerbella you have good taste at your age, thats rare these days

  • reeeeeeddd moneeeeeyy, sorry, but I heard lodger first, and even if this is better, I can't stop myself singing Bowie's lyrics

  • Bowie and Iggy at it again...maniacs

  • I have no idea. I listen to Dum-Dum Boys and it literaly is in front of Saul's drugstore Detroit 1967. I hear Mass Production, and it literally is the sound of downriver Detroit 1972. Steeel factories opening the hoods, the sky turns red. The sounds of heavy insustry 24/7.... and the smell... it smelled like money.

  • Ian must have been very, very ill - this tune makes me want to go out, cause chaos - but - ENJOY!

  • thanks mr sugar pants for posting this

  • Cool song like most of Iggy's, but this one is a bit... incestuous? Reminds me of The Doors' The End. I like these songs but wouldn't want to... you know LOL

  • @wandererlain

Some of the best songs, are the most controversial lol.

  • @WoodRatGirl They sure are, though I wouldn't like to think of Jim Morrison and Iggy Pop as mother-f***ers. LOL

I guess you read Chinese Astrology judging by your username?

I could of called myself EarthGoatPan or WassermanDan or something but settled on an anagram of my birthname.

  • @wandererlain

LOL, yes I wouldn't like to think of them in that way either.

And yes I do read Chinese Astrology, now and again.

Also you are actually the first person, to really understand what my username is all about without being a complete f*cking jerk about it.

Some jerks, have made comments such as, "Do you get a woody over female rats?" and other sick sh*t like that. Of course I just give them back a witty comment with a f*ck you, and that always shuts them up lol.

  • @WoodRatGirl

Nice to meet a similiar-minded person who likes music like me!

I recorded a vid of Ig at a live gig in London earlier this year. It's on my channel but the picture quality is a bit shit. (I sound like a poet lol)

But, I tell you, it was a BLAST! Everyone in the front row was dancing on the stage with Iggy and he must have leapt onto the crowd at least 4 times! YAHOOO!

Felt like a Bacchanalian orgy that night.

  • @wandererlain

    Why thank you and likewise!

And that sure sounds like it was a brilliant concert, with Iggy getting Jiggy at his own giggy like that. (LOL, how's that for rhyming?)

  • @WoodRatGirl Nice one!

  • @wandererlain

    Why thank you Sir.

    *bows and exits stage left*

  • reeeeeeeeed money

  • Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers inductees March 15th, 2010, 8th time the charm!! Congrats!! :-)

  • why does everything have a line through it?

  • @pollywarrior

What line? unless you're talking about the Google advert thing. To get rid of that, just click on the little x, and no more line.

  • I'm very interested in this man after hearing a song in the Joy Division film 'Conrol', but don't know what album to buy. Can anyone help? Is The Idiot the best by him? Or the one with him on the front cover with a huge smile looking like a maths teacher?

  • My favorite Iggy pop album is Raw Power.

You might also like Fun House or Lust For Life depending on your mood

  • I prefer The Idiot.

Raw Power and Fun House are Stooges albums.

  • 'Best' is a bit subjective. The one with him smiling looking like a math teacher (as you put it) is his most popular album but I personally like this one more.

  • idk all his work but get this one, cuz i luv it . and i think its funny how u brits say "maths" insted of 'math" (im american) lol..

  • lol...I know!!! I have a friend who's Danish and she says "MATH" is kept on telling her it's "Math's'!!" :-) I asked if she was taught English by an American, and she was! So there you go. "Maths" is short for the obvious 'Mathematics' ie: Mathematics teacher - a teacher of maths. You wouldn't say "A teacher of Mathematic would you??

  • @clearviewmind raw power, the idiot, lust for life, new values & soldier

    those are my favs :P

  • Some weird sin, lust for life and a couple other songs on Lust for life are awesome! Classics. But i reckon the Idiot is more consitent. Love how it has that funky side to it as well

  • I just watched some guy on Jimmy Fallon's show doing "I Wish it were Christmas Today." That dude sounds almost exactly as Iggy. Not as good, of course, but it is uncanny. I forget the dude's name.

  • julian casablancas

  • strokes are good but the singer owes a lot to iggy

  • red money ftw

  • IGGY!!!!! heheh cracking

  • Dead or alive had an early song called"black leather" with the lyrics 'calling sister midnite, what can i do about these dreams!'...i gu=euse pete burns listen to the idiot album prior to writing..

  • I love this song! But I have to say that I love David's version when he sings by himself. (Dare I get slapped for that.) lol. I like both versions because I'm an Iggy fan as well, but I'm a Bowie girl.

  • I like in the following order:

    1) Bowie singing Sister Midnight live during the 1976 rehearsals.

    2) Iggy's version

    3) Bowie's "Red Money" having the same chordprogression as this.

  • the last song heard by the late great Ian Curtis of Joy Division.

  • Yeah, I always think of Ian whenever listening to this song also.

  • @antwoolies unless im mistaken this is the first song on the album

  • @antwoolies How do you know its this track, could it not be the song Mass prodution the last song on this album? after all he did put the album on to litsen to it all!

  • @antwoolies Who fucking cares?

  • @Lengsel7 It's the highest rated comment. i'm sure people do.

  • @Lengsel7

Ian Curtis was a legend you silly person.

  • @ipudding100 totally irrelevant. Just because someone killed them self to an album, it doesn't mean it has to be permanently attached.

  • @antwoolies, is it...as its the first song on the record.

  • @antwoolies

    Not true. Perhaps...

Sure, The Idiot was spinning on Ian Curtis' parent's turntable when he was found dead, but we don't know if he'd listened to the the entire album before he killed himself. If he did, then the last track he would have heard was Mass Production. Which is pretty dark and unforgiving.

But who knows... he might've taken the plunge after China Girl..... the point is, it's daft to state these things as fact.

  • Bast is getting old, and Ishtar dances . . .

  • You, Sir/Madam, are awesome

  • Thankee sai.

  • Long days and pleasant nights to you, sai. (Haha couldn't resist)

Anyway this is an awesome song.

  • And you have twice the number.

    Isn't it, though?

  • Aye, so it is.

  • @MySerpentine Thanks to Neil Gaiman for introducing me to this song.

  • @MySerpentine That's a nice Gaiman reference. Amazing scene.

  • @MySerpentine And the club goes up in flames. I LIKE you.

  • iggy pop <3

  • I didnt like most of the songs of new values but i do agree with this and lust for life. Realy good albums

  • One of my fav's thnx uploader

  • Heroin album.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow I remember myself stripteasing and then making love during this song...it is great...

  • wtf? lol thats funny

  • I want to be your boyfriend.

  • And Bast is getting old.

    And Ishtar dances.

  • Though A Game of You would have a better mixtape. Satellite of Love, Nightgown of the Sullen Moon and all that

  • Probably. But that's alright.

  • He is such a crooner at heart.

  • He never goes out of style.

  • You should just give up on life if you don't own this record.

  • bowie & iggy kick ass!!!....

  • Hi guys,

you can still find the album in the shops, but I recommend you "Iggy Pop - A Million In Prizes The Iggy Pop Anthology" (2005): the songs (many of this album are included) are remastered, and thesound is great!

  • U still need THE IDIOT, it works well as a novel!!! its his best solo album!!!!

  • Thanks a lot for uploading these songs, I didn't know if I'd ever be able to find them

  • Really? Just but the Idiot or borrow it from a friend? You can get this album anywhere
