@GarfanboyNEW - don't know about that. They are all on good terms now...attended the ceremony to receive their star on the Hollywood walk of fame (with Perry and Augeri) and Arnel is a DAMN good singer. They are all big enough to wish each other well. You should be too.
If Journey never played Open Arms, Faithfully, DSB or Seperate Ways again I couldn't care less!!! They have so many good songs! I am so sick of hearing the same songs in concert!!
I am 49 years old, and I have Cystic Fibrosis. I have the same lungs God blessed me with when I was born, so I am somewhat of a unique case. It is hard for me to watch this clip. It is the first time I have ever seen it. Only The Young is one of my favorite songs, and I never knew the backstory behind it. When Jon Cain breaks down, so did I. I am facing my mortality with my illness. I am in the latter stages of the illness, and I am determined to win this battle if I can. My fight is not over.
Escape was the last record I truly liked by Journey (They had some other good tunes afterwards, but Escape was great from beginning to end). Truly soulful with enough edge to keep it manly. Even though it was the first record without Rollie, I always thought their best stuff was with him. Schon, Rollie, and Perry were true magic together.
@danawilli05, Steve Perry pictures were on the screen at a Journey concert, with Steve Augeri singing? Please tell me more. I never knew Journey displayed pictures of the Great Steve Perry at Journey concerts?
@therocknroll41 Nobody really knows what was going on at the time, however, read my posts below. It was all 3 guys (Perry, Schon & Cain) who canned Smith & Vallory, however, the 2 let Perry take the rap, always have. Perry never has had a problem admitting his mistakes, unlike the other 2, who always take the glory, yet are quick to lay blame when something isn't favorable. All one has to do is watch all the interviews thru the years of those 3, past and present, to see how obvious this is.
@drdave313 You have no idea what was going on in the band at the time. Perhaps Perry just didn't want to listen to a drum machine! (Perry never did drugs. Was too serious about his music. Too professional for nonsense like that).
@jeanmarie7 I wasn't referring to Smith as a "drum machine"! Smith was great! The "drum machine" was new instrument, new technology. The "drum machine" was some new technology Neal & Jon had purchased while SP was away making his solo album. Perry wasn't crazy about it, he likes the real thing (always loved Smith's drumming. Perry, being a drummer himself, always identified with Smith's playing). Who knows why Perry, Schon & yes, Cain canned Smith & Vallory, however, SP got the rap for it.
I really respect the rock group Journey after seeng the band with Kenny!! They were so very hot when Steve Perry was the frontman!! They shouldn't have treated Steve the way that they did!! He was the one that brought them fame and fortune!! With that sexy voice and all!!
When I went to see Journey in concert, the screen displayed pictures of Steve Perry and the band, while they had their new frontman, and when I saw them, that made me cry because they treated Perry like tottal crap.
i swear im saying this the best was possible but i think that kenny knew he was gonna pass away soon but god gave him the strenght and power to hold on and dont stop believing to see his hereos and i believe that they may not be super hereos but they are hereos for giving a boy his last wishes god bless journey for this
@RichieD814 It really doesn't. does it? Computer bass and drum machines, only one origianl member left. Sounds more like Steve wanted to make a studio solo album with Neal and Jon guesting.
@dharmaseed One thing most people don't know, when Steve gets back from making his solo album, Neal & Jon had bought the drum machines & computer bass. Neal, Jon & the guys wanted to use new technology, as well as do some R&B. Steve wasn't crazy about new technology but the guys wanted it. Perhaps that's why he didn't like the sound from Vallory & Smith. However, he loved the R&B. He also did some songs in his lower octaves on RoR ("taking chances musically"), which are fabulous.
@unlikeanyotherhuman LOL! No, I don`t think you`re kiddin. I`ve written a few pretty ones, and then I`ve written some "just go f****n die" ones; the "F****n die" ones are much more fun, trust me. LOL
@estyle40 I think ROR was slightly different; at its core, it seemed much like other Journey records stylistically, but tunes like "I'll Be All Right Without You" had a sort of R&B flavor that I had never heard from Journey before. No, probably no girlfriend is worth writing songs about, but love is worth writing songs about. I think that's the point. Love is not the girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever, but it is the lover's response to that person that is the thing one writes songs about.
@dharmaseed It was a very very nice thing for a famous band like Journey, to go to a hospital and comfort this kid who wanted his last wish. To see journey.
@dharmaseed Oh please!! ... Everyone felt sorry for that kid! .. Jon Cain is only interested in making money!! He's a great somg writer but he's so full of himself it's rediculous!! ... Bring Perry and Rollie back and you will once again have a legitimate rock and roll band!
@Vanrocco66 Well, I won't disagree with you there, I'd be happy if just gRegg came back, but of course the band wouldn't be marletable that way, would they? Greg is happy doing what he does with his band, and Steve is not likely to come back.
@dharmaseed Cain is especially sensitive about kids... He was a survivor of the Our Lady of the Angels School Fire of 1958, which killed 95 children. Frankly, I always thought trading Rolie for Cain made Journey a lot less interesting, musically. But I do think Cain is a decent enough fellow.
@dharmaseed I forgot to mention, he wrote a song about it which is downloadable at his website, in the 'bio' section, along with a newspaper clipping.
@ronson232 - interesting points. Journey was a conglomerate of a lot of talents, and Neal seemed to stand by patiently while his band took on a whole new direction. Like he said, he had bills to pay. I'm sure he's OK with the way it turned out.
@PrsFenderJackson1980, I did. That story was only one of the reasons I became a MEGA Journey fan, the main reason being that their music was and still is great! Kenny deserved to meet his heroes before he died, because he seemed like a special young man in need of some happiness. RIP Kenny.
I cannot imagine a band going to see a sick child who was about to die, and did die at age 16, while Pe=rry is going through as much hell as he has gone through, to begin with. Yes, I wll always be hurt after seeing those pictures 7 years ago, and yes, I still am in awe, and will always be in that much deeo awe.
There's no journey without Perry, but there will always be Perry without journey
