It's very underrated. One of the more ambiguous on the nasties list (along with Possession). It explores sexuality (homophobia, incest) in a very subtle way. I honestly can't understand why it's not even had a dvd release. One of my favourites on the nasties list.
@Muskateering Code Red were planning a release but couldn't find a good enough master to produce the quality release they wanted to, at least thats as far as I know
@lampyman101 that's a shame, they did a really good job on Nightmares in a Damaged Brain. I guess the film makers at the time couldn't predict the future of the digital age lol. Having said that, the image quality of the clips used in the review seem good enough, I just want to own this darn film and not have a crappy looking VHS download. Which is hard to find in itself...
@Muskateering The footage I used was from a US VHS (with the alternate title 'Night Warning') ex rental but it's very watchable.. You can pick the film up easy enough on VHS and there are some precert copies of Nightmare Maker (the original nasties title) floating around for around £30 -£50 on ebay occasionally
@davebrucelee2011 I had to pick it up on US VHS (under the title 'Night Warning'). there may be bootleg DVD's knocking about too but the had never been a DVD release sadly.
It's one of those titles you have to hunt for I'm afraid
You should review dream maniac, a nightmare on elm street rip-off apparentley too graphic for cinemas. I think Junior was like that too, i've never watched them, but i've seen them in a store before.
@lampyman101 I actually watched it on Youtube under the title Night Warning. It was actually a good movie to me. The ending part was a tad over the top with her running around, but that was to build up suspense. Also, it doesn't make sense that the one girl didn't die. <-<;
@LiveFastDiarrhea Thanks Dom. It has several titles, night warning, nightmare maker, the evil protege and several others. i think it was originally Nightmare maker here
I think the problem with both right wing and left wing is that some people tend to confuse "anti gay marriage" and "anti illegal immigrants" with "anti gay" and "anti immigrants." I know plenty of conservatives, including myself, and they couldn't be further from being gay bashing bigots. The actions of the cop and aunt in this movie are obviously reprehensible, and I acknowledge the fact that Fox News can some times take things too far. Sorry if bit on a rant, great review, Glenn. :)
@NathanDewey No and I do state that it's the fringe element that is criticised. I also know plenty of conservatives who are fine people and it's not a sweeping comment that I meant to make.
@DarkAngel182 It's such a minor appearance it didn't seem necessary and it didn't seem to fit in the review to point stuff like that out, I did include one of his scenes though.
Glenn, I always enjoy your reviews, but you were really on top of your game with this one. Haven't seen this Nasty yet, but your review makes me want to. I find that most of these older horror films that deal with issues such as gender roles and sexual identity to be truly fascinating. Don't know if you've ever seen Cruising, but it's basically a slasher film, except the killer and victims are gay, and Al Pacino is, essentially, a damsel in distress. It really flips the usual gender roles
@thebrb30000 Thanks Barry. I haven't seen Cruising but it sounds very interesting, I shall see if I can check it out. The idea of Pacino as a damsel in distress is quite intriguing.
@m0t0psych0 Thanks Mitch, the videos are all still there so as and when your ready feel free to check them out. The only way to get this movie legitimately is on VHS (my own copy is an American tape I imported). It's worth tracking down and there's a few copies floating about for reasonable money. Good to hear from you.
Lmao even over england you guys see fox news for what they are, right wingers, dispite them saying they are "fair and balanced". The right alway talk about less goverment control, but on socal issues they want to be in everyones bedrooms. The hypocrisy of it all!
@TheDeadhead76 Fox news are infamous worldwide, While every country has it's share of bad media outlets Fox stand as the prime example of the worst kind of media because they pretend to be (and should be) legitimate journalists well enough to fool people. It is amazing the old attitudes are still so prevalent and this movie struck me as addressing issues that still exist today.
@lampyman101 Fox news is the propaganda machine for the G.O.P. and the "tea party". if sara palin or some other right wing nut wins in 2012,I'm movin to canada. Only reason I havn't yet is obama.
@TheDeadhead76 I hear Palin might run for president next election, considering the amount of Americans who voted for her last time, lets just say the rest of the world is nervous...
@DarkAngel182 In last election it was john mcain runing for prez., palin was vice prez. canadate,I voted for obama, just like I will in 2012. i'm kinda nevrous too, there alot fox news zombies.
@TheDeadhead76 yeah, it kinda worried me how something like 48% (or whatever high percentage it was) still voted for McCain, despite that idiot Palin being his running mate.
@DarkAngel182 Osama is losing constantly popularity and by the time the next election takes place (barring any convenient terrorist attacks) there is a huge chance that anyone facing him will be president. Spooky or what?
@paulie1vivaaxl I haven't watched DS in years. I do have it somewhere and I've been meaning to watch it again. It was very cheesy as I remember but fun
I have a copy of this on VHS,with the title "Night Warning", I think i like your copy better. This movie is pretty enjoyable, and well acted by all, especially Susan Tyrrell.Good choice for #40 : )
