  • hes a machine

  • He is hands down the best drummer of all time. Don't even argue.

  • Holy shit..reminds me alot of the Frank Zappa Synclavier compositions like G-Spot tornado..awesome stuff, really glad I just found this guy..instant favorite.

  • Notice that he is one of the only drummers able to solo and keep time with his left foot throughout its entirety.

  • This sounds like it would go to a Gradius style video game soundtrack =D!!

  • Can anyone tell me where this is from? What video or dvd?

  • Hate to say it,but i think he's the best

  • I love this!

  • holy cow. This is good shit.

  • @3:15 - sounds like Spyro gyra's - City kids riff

  • does akira play the drums or vice versa ?

  • Excellent!!!!! sounds out of this world, Hence the name

  • Tai Palak Kau...Cam Setan...Seal Yak...

  • excellent drummer

  • The next SEGA Games soundtracks must have Akira Jimbo with Takenobu Mitsuyoshi behind compositions. Both are powerful on it

  • something that he does on ride on 1:05 to 1:15 is incedible, i like to do this on drums :)

  • He is himself the Alien, because he isout of this planet :P LOL

  • Ooops ...Is ( i forgot 's')

  • 0:56 to 1:00 í interesting. I liked

  • Aerobics of Alien ?

  • @HelliOnurb who would you consider the best?

  • What a beast!

  • @btsdrummer1 you should check out his other stuff where he incorporates an entire electric kit into his acoustics and fully becomes a one man band.

  • Best drummer to ever walk the earth.

  • @TheRunescapeFYI

I can see u don´t know a lot of drummers xD

    I like Akira´s playing though

  • wow

  • Could use a bit more cowbell..

  • damn this was super cool til the nintendo music kicked in

  • @ sweckIing he's an alien?!!!

  • reminds me of F-Zero snes

  • i wanna here him cover "holy intruder" from the secret of mana soundtrack, lol.

  • @BlooBeluga lol I doubt if that'll happen since he's busy with other projects....he might do it though if he can program it into his DTX trigger system....

  • I think he fell out of my super nintendo!!! XD

  • sounds like a track from animusic.

  • Do his drums sound like electric drums? Or maybe electric drums are just trying to sound like him.

  • I'm LOLing at all the comments saying "he's not human" and this was recorded in 1992

    Hahahahaha

Metamorphasis is one of my favorite videos is there some way you can post "Earth Dance"?

  • Anyone who dares to criticize for bad to this amazing musician is just an idiot!!! Akira Jimbo is TOP drumer... period!!

  • @masterkid4u the discipline, talent, timing and unparalleled precision of Akira is second to none. typical japanese feature. man, this is smooth and scarely precise. holy shit!

  • @masterkid4u you can order a whole concert from CD japan dot com which is the best, safe place to buy, straight from japan which i ordered 9 times from them paypal accepted as well. . For those who don't know, Akira is the the drummer from casiopea. I got a Blu-Ray "Casiopea v.s the Square. Prepare to pay $120.00 for that disc. It is worth every penny.

  • LOL all their names are Akira.

  • This kinda reminds me of Planet X. I guess grouping of 5 makes it sound alien-ish.

  • jimbo back before he started smiling profusely.

  • he's got no soul

  • @highvoltagedrums No soul?

Man thats VERY hard to believe....he has soul the reason why he might not have soul on this recording is because this song is very complex.

His feel especially when he plays latin is amazing.

  • Reminds me a lot of Frank Zappa.

Really nice. Wish he'd used a real band though. It gets kind of boring because only the drumming is hot.

  • @Frisbieinstein Check out Casiopea his main band he gigged with for over 35 years.

  • its like tool meets snes. best groves ever.

  • @larkydozer

Lol @ the sounds of Nintendo! I'm just saying, he approached the concept a little different then the rest. Also, you gotta keep in mind that he and the composers are Japanese, and nintendo composers are also Japanese, so maybe that was the only style of music he had to work with at the time. I'm thinking of resequencing this tune for one of my drummers (less nintendo sounding of course).

  • @ Larkydozer- This song isn't even that complex that another person can't memorize it. Most of it is in 5/4 timing. It's AJ's placement & timing that make it sound difficult.

Who cares if it sounds like Mario Bros. At the time when this was recorded, that sound was considered a form of Fusion, but just like any genre of music, it has changed a lot since then.

You really can't compare him to those two other drummers you've mentioned. That's the problem with music today.... If it don't sound

  • @SpecialystMusic

I can compare Akira Jimbo to any other contemporary drummer. The reason you attempt to deny the validity of the comparison (for what reasons?... you don't provide any.) is because Akira sounds less like a versatile composer/drummer and more like a video game robot.

  • Suffers from what a lot of these type of drummer vids suffer from.

The compositions aren't memorable tunes and sound more like they were written in a

way that privileged the drum part over good songwriting.

  • @larkydozer that's the point, showcasing amazing drumming abilities...

you can't do that in ordinary situations...

  • @weedkiller10

I understand that this is the point of Akira's compositions, but the criticism I've levied is about how this is less about making good music and more about gymnastics.

There are plenty of compositions by drummer/composers whose drumming is very technical and precise but the music doesn't sound like Mario Bros./Elevator music/Berklee freshman work.

Benny Greb, JoJo Mayer are two such drummers.

  • @larkydozer

    Haha, Berklee freshman work.

    Touché. But Nintendo aren't complaining...

  • @weedkiller10

Nobody looks to Nintendo for the sounds of great music.

  • @larkydozer

Because if you did, you'd be distracted from the games...

  • @weedkiller10

Exactly. Which is why Benny Greb is so great.

  • @larkydozer that's flat-out wrong. You're identifying late-80's and early 90's game music with "Nintendo" when it should actually be recognized as "8-bit" music. The music on games back then was limited by the very limited amount of data which would be fit into those cartridges. The composers who work for Nintendo are all absolutely incredible. Try playing some more recent Nintendo games (Any Zelda game since Ocarina of Time would do) and tell me that the music isn't inspiring.

  • @reefersk

    Flat out wrong?

Either you don't comprehend my comments or you're simply content with misrepresenting them.

Nothing you say in your comments merits engaging.

  • @larkydozer

You're identifying a genre of music with a particular gaming company when it should, in fact, be recognized as a certain type of music associated with file space.

The composers of Nintendo game music are great at what they do. You've obviously only heard their works from old 8-bit game cartridges. My point is that you have insulted an entire genre of music which you have obviously only heard a tiny bit of. And that tiny bit has been outdated for almost twenty years.

  • @reefersk

About the only thing you got right in this entire conversation has been your punctuation.

You misrepresent, or misunderstand my statements and then proceed to lecture me about something which I did not remark about.

Akira Jimbo's music sounds like video game music. Yawn.

  • Damn ... this looks so effortless... incredible.

  • he's dressed like he just came off a cruise ship gig

  • @seablue he might look like a dork but he can play the paradiddle

  • i gotta say... akira is a beast drum player. but i'm not sure i'm too into his song writing. sounds like a sega video game... alot... can't really get passed it... sorry akira

  • @zooby11isbambam This song isn't composed by him, he's just playing the composition...

  • @zooby11isbambam this video is from the 80's or is it the 90's...

  • This looks like 90's or early 2000.

  • @n8tronics This is early Akira, before he even started using the snare drums with a wooden hoop... though I can't tell how old this really is.

  • @ryder187mac Oh OK =) Thanks.

  • @n8tronics '93 I have the VHS version.

  • @mrthundaboots Ok thank you =)

  • • Genial...Brillante...!!!

  • I set this guys drumset up for this guy once when I was working at Mars Music. It was a three day affair. Worth every minute in experience.

  • Does anybody know if this is his music? I mean the backing, of course the drums are his. But what about the backing? This is some amazing stuff, I may want to hire him someday to soundtrack a video game. Something like this would be sound great in Mario, or other quirky games.

  • akira,is the eddie van halen of drums, the best of the best.......

  • akira plays with lots of sensibility, he's relaxed when he play... great song!

  • THAT was a lot of fun to watch. Love how he holds his sticks waaaay at the end (not generally recommended, but f-'em if it works) and uses them like whips just snapping them at those cymbals.

  • dam this video made me want to practice more

  • Hey you all " Human " this is " Alien "

  • interesting that he holds his sticks using the french method.

  • wow..god of drum

  • este es un alien por tocar la bata como la toca!...impresionante

  • no, i think there are at least parts in 5/8 at least the beginning is.

  • I'm pretty sure the song's all in 4/4 but he's playing different time signatures and phrases which all add up to 4.

  • I dont know why but at some parts it sounds like a sonic the hedgehog song

  • woah his snare is like up to his chest ha

  • hes awesome and all but i just hate fusion music

  • i love this song

  • 5:14 like a Lighting

  • God I love this guy!-Quite simply the most amazing performance I've seen-He does indeed play like an 'Alien' on this one. It's perfect apart from ( and I'm sure Akira himself would admit this) that one extra Hi-hat stab at 1.51.....should have only played three, but he puts a fourth one in...he's human after all I guess!.

  • Good comment. But I wonder, why should it only be three? Just because the sequencer is playing three? What if it is meant like that (in the sense of stipulating that there is a difference between men and computer, and therefore one should play four whereas the computer plays three). It is far-fetched, but considering this 'out-of-this-world' track, it is something to philosophize about...

    Anyway, superb track and performance!

  • I listened to it again now, and I noticed something new. If you consentrate on the bass line, you will be able hear that the fourth hit times the synth bass note. If he decided to let the hits follow the bass line, and not neccecery the keyboard, he does everything right. Anyway you are right, It's human to do mistakes here and there. It would be boring if it was played by a robot, and every hit was 200% in time.

  • @sweckIing Case in point: Neil Peart. :P

  • ahhhh that 80s/90s drum sound

  • yeaahhh its not only the drums, its the sythn

  • I need to find out more about this guy. Just found him on youtbe...This guy is like a metronome. dang this guy is good

  • This guy is a phenomenal drummer.

A core member of prolific Japanese four-piece jazz funk outfit, Casiopea.

  • I love 80's video games, 10 Stars for Akira Jimbo

  • Awesome!

  • wouaou wouaou wouaou srx il assure a mort la l'indépendence de dingue quoi c un dont Oo sublime

  • First bit sounds like a wierd mixture of Airwolf and Bill Bruford's Hell's Bells.

  • the time signatures are all over :O

  • I think it's all in 4/4

  • This song would be a great challenge for me to play along to.

  • Aerobics of Alien says it right because Akira is playing just like one in this one. His mental acuity, mathematically speaking, and physical facility on the kit is no doubt "out-of-this-world; maybe...extraterrestrial.(?)

  • WOW...fantastic playing

  • this reminds of frank zappas synclavier works on jazz from hell..tight as fuck

  • ...shit.

  • is he using heel and toe technique on bass drum pedal? (0:30)

  • yeah he is

  • Amazing, i thought i was gonna crap myself.

  • Badass!

  • i think its awesome over sick time

  • Sounds like old videogame music to me

  • This is fucking awesome :D

What music genre is this? I can't define!

  • Pretty sure it's fusion? That's his expertise I know with Jazz fusion.

  • it's japanese jazz

  • This is from his first video in the early 90's.

I think it is out of print, it has only been released on VHS so far.

  • cool, he fails an accent at 1:52, there's one too much^^

but anyway thats quite a tight performance, respect! ;-)

  • Well, you really can't blame him for that :-D

With skills like that, he could go take a shit on the floor, and continue playing and no one would mind.

  • what the hell are you talking about? Drummers aren't Haters, remember that.

  • ...could his snare be any tighter !!!! Awesome.

  • can anyone tell me the opening ride beat i can't get thanks

  • the akira jimbo shuffle

  • love the pop of his snare

  • dude this has insane skill. he has four completely independent beats going on at the same time between his hands and feet almost the whole time...impressive

  • is this on the metamorphasis vhs? man i need to get this

  • what kind of pants is he wearing?

  • this would be a great percussion ensemble piece to transcribe.

  • he is a human being...not a machine...sounds very very musical

  • un-believ-able

    this is aweeeeeeesome

its like the soundtrack out of terminator 1

  • jejejj yes..like a videogame soundtrack !!....CONTRA III

  • 5:15 he almost makes a mistake!

  • Yes, almost.

But earlier in the video, at 1:52, he really makes a mistake.

He makes four hits at the Hi-hat, but the backing track music only plays three hits. :D

  • Yes , good detail.

  • @sweckIing He makes a mistake and it still sounds awesome like "I meant to do that."
