I love fishing the Mickey Finn in the early spring here in New Brunswick for Atlantic salmon but it's not only for salmon, trout, bass, pike and pickerel seem to like chomping down on it as well. Great fun to fish.
Good tie of the original version. I fish a variant tied with a tube of silver,nylon, plastic canvas cord with the wing, same colours, of dyed monga ringtail . This has proven to be a really good pattern for me for Atlantic salmon during water around 45-50F and even in coloured water.
if the bucktail flares out alot like that will it still behave like nonflaring buck tail? because i have a bucktail were somes nice and krinkly and doesnt flare but other areas on it flares out a whole bunch.
i think you would have a peace of bucktail that was cut off the deer closer to it belly because thats what i have had hapen to me alot the hair on the top if the deer and the sides dosint flair but on the bottom it does

I tie a variant of this fly with gold flat tinsel, oval silver tinsel, and yellow and orange goat hair. Very effective fishing brook trout !
