  • LOL THIS IS SOOOO FUNNY

  • I had the runner's weights. They leaked a LOT! :oD

  • I had the hoops and batons! :)

  • well girls should be pretty.no one wants to be ugly. there are so many fat kids nowadays its disgusting. no one feels good being all fat and unhealthy. you should accept you for you and others too but come on. this is what our society is based on. it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. if you are fat and ugly people make fun. it is messed up but hey if you don't like it just keep eating your donuts and cheeseburgers.

  • What is ridiculous is I remembered the song from the commercial exactly right even though I haven't seen it since it was on. I wish my brain would remember useful stuff.

  • I think this line was great! At least young girls were being encouraged to be active--the kids of today could really use something like this.

  • I had some of these things too. the ribbon was my favorite!<3

  • I had the PumpnRun set when I was little,

  • It's ridiculous how this is only targeted at girls...even old barbie doll commercials, are just plain wrong....all about how they look!! Now i realized why sooooo many woman who were girls in the 80's have a complex about our hair and weight!! It's an outrage!!

  • why are They Only Targeting Girls?

  • @drtgreatwhites At this time, guys had a multitude of sports at their grasp, the options to stay in shape were countless. Girls were considered ladies, and ladies didn't play such sports. Gymnastics and aerobics were the most popular activities for girls at the time, this was just the capitalization on the specific market.

  • I used to have this!! I miss it now.

  • Who knew twirling a baton burned calories? XD

  • i want it!

  • I had a couple of Get in shape girl things! Wow, this was so long ago.

  • the weights were filled with water ! lol

  • yeah that will get you buff:]

  • I am actually the little black girl in the comercial. We shot this overseas back in about 1985/86...most of the gals were from Holland...some from the US. We shot it just outside of Amsterdam. Wow, this takes me back.

  • I remember this line of toys! That must have been a bizarre experience, shooting in Holland!

  • That means you were probably in the 6th grade at the time. I was in the 5th grade at the time this commercial aired.

  • Even when my sister and I were growing up in the 80's, the fitness craze even hit our favorite toy stores with 'Get in Shape, Girl.'

  • I had the twist and twirl set. I got in the fifth grade when Get in Shape Girl was a little bit embarrassing to get. One of the girls at my party laughed when I opened it so I quickly put it out of sight. My mom was pissed off. She wanted me to love it. I did but that bitch at my party tortured me about it. My mom never let me forget that either. "Well I dont' know...you SAY you want something and then act all embarrssed after I buy it..." it was ENDLESS!

  • Oh man girl, I feel your pain. And girls are EVIL!!!

  • I had the pump and run and bangle bop sets

  • Due to the fact that some creeps get off to little girls in tights, you'd never see this ad on TV today, I run a gymnastic class, and many times had to call the police due to pedo's looking in the window, one freak was masterbaiting, and I had him arrested.

  • Don't spread hate of homeless people!

  • whoa, that is creepy. he was peeping at the women in the gym? i'm glad he was arrested.

  • did i see a boy in that commercia???

  • what's with the hand job exercise?

  • this may sound creepy but why in every GISG commercial the little girls always bendover at the end of there add. Thats just wrong!

  • Uh... yeah. I had been wondering the same thing since I was in middle school, but was afraid to ask. I also wonder if any parents back then had picked up on that too.

If this commercial came out today, I think there would be an uproar from parents over seeing that.

  • They have newer versions of this now, I remember seeing them earlier today at Wal-Mart and that made me want to see the old ads---man, have they changed.

I had the Bangle Bop set.

  • socks AND a cassette!

  • Thoz where the days. IF they made a video in 2007 bout girls getting into shape they'd show a bunch of movie star chicks eating 100 calories a day and puking in the bathroom every 60 sec. Damn it bring back the 80's!!!

  • Back then exercise was all about fun and health, not trying to look like Kate Moss. It's disturbing some of the messages about diet and health I see on TV. I remember as a kid seeing She-Ra having a slab of meat and some veggies on her dinner plate. Now cartoon characters are telling little girls that anything that isn't veggies is bad for you.

  • LOL! OMG talk about a blast from the past. Just imagine kids doing that stuff today...they'll run right past it to the video game aisle in Walmart! LOLOL

  • just what the lil fatties of today need!

  • omg my sister had the tape and we use to do arobics with it
