if you cut the chocolate up in smaller pieces it will melt much easier=) but these look amazing. I might make some for my babyshower..maybe some with milk chocolate and white chocolate dyed pink!=) cute!!!
for anybody thinking about trying this, here's a few tips: DON"T over boil the water, only a shimmer, and if you should always, always cut ur chocolate up into even size pieces(melt more even), and know that ur trying to melt the chocolate, not make hot chocolate. Refrigerate for 30 min afterwards
Not bad at all and major kudos for making them for the wife. If I may, though, I do have a few tips:
-Try using two 12 ounce bags of Hersheys Special Dark chocolate chips instead of commercial ready-to-eat chocolate. It's not a bad product, but commercial stuff tends to contain emulsifiers and other additives that don't do as well.
-As sh97 pointed out, once you get the water to boil, reduce to low heat to get a more gentle, even melt.
-Add the chocolate with six ounces of room temperature butter to get a nice gloss. As you melt the chocolate, be very careful not to allow steam to touch the chocolate or it may seize.
-For some light decoration, drizzle melted white chocolate over the strawberries in ribbons.
-For a marbled effect, separately prepare equal amounts of white and regular chocolate using the double boiler method. Add to a common container, swirl and dip.
I have heard that they were not done the way they should have been but I did my best and they tasted good I would love to learn how to do them right so they are all smooth and shiny when they are done.
Try reducing the heat to low or medium-low so the water has started to steam and there are only a few bubbles. It takes a few min. for the choc. to melt, but it won't burn. Also, be sure the chocolate and the bowl on top don't make contact with the water. This will prevent your choc. from becoming a dull, ooey-gooey consistency. You're off to a good start though!
believe it or not I got them at a CVS in a mall and they were on sale so I got that great deal but I want to try it again with some really nice cooking chocolate.
he never blinks

Can we also eat the chocolate covered strawberries without refrigerating them? And great vid. btw! :)
inshavirani786 11 months ago
@inshavirani786 I don't see why you can't eat them before before they are cool. I imagine it will just be messy but that may add to the fun LOL

it would be better to chop up the chocolate first, that way it can melt faster and easier to stir, right?
SreyPich 3 years ago
The recipe I always use is:
-a bag of Nestle's semi-sweet chocolate chips
-3/4 cup of vegetable oil
-1/4 cup of Grand Marnier (orange liquer)
-mix the chips and oil in a bowl and microwave for 1 minute, take out stir, add liquer, put in microwave for 45 seconds, stir then dip.
My girlfriend loves it. The oil makes it shiney and smooth, and it tastes amazing with strawberries. Just something you might want to try.
