  • This is Mossad at work :o))) for real, they have crap like this on the internet, just listen to it with this in mind and you'll find out ;o)))

  • Randy (along with BTO) one of the most under rated rock artists ever. For anyone who may have ever had the slightest doubt this song is proof positive the man always had serious talent. Thanks for sharing, I think it's a pretty small group of us who dug-actually who even KNEW about this tune! Thanks for sharing!

  • Does anyone know what key this is in?

  • LOL, hey man, I said BTO is my second all-time favorite band (but this album ended it for them), it almost sounds unplugged & was badly produced & not written well.. Tony Iommi of Sabbath is a far superior player..I put Randy second over Gallagher, Hendrix, Rhodes, Clapton, Trower & you still find somethin to bitch about,,,

  • Listen to this man's guitar playing! No matter his jazz, blues or Rock & Roll licks he plays circles around everybody. Chords, licks, song writing and sound! Wow! Blows me away!

  • Is there anyone today who even comes close to this? Nuh uh.

  • one of the best

  • Reply to 455transam: this song most certainly is Brazilian-inspired. All you need to do is listen to some Brazilian music, especially from the late 50s and the 60s. "Jazz" has many roots. It adds nothing to the equation therefore to say that something is "jazz" inspired.

  • @StamfordAmy Let me put it to you this way. I've heard people comment on this song AND "Blue Collar" for decades they have ALWAYS said it has a JAZZ sound.....nobody has ever mentioned "Brazillian" except you! I guess you could say Brazillian music is Jazzy!

  • I saw Randy at the Rib Cookoff a few years back and he put on a helluva show! Dude Rocks!

  • If any one has a good version of guitar tabs for this song i would greatly appreciate it if you would share it, thumb this up for the under appreciated great canadian talents such as B.T.O!

  • This has always been my theme song since I was 15 <3

  • this song ruined bto, randy got too big in the head, he should of learned from burton, whom he left cause of burtons love of himself..there was alot of rock left for randy, but this album killed it! i mean From /we love to work at nothin all day/ To/ lookin out for no. 1,( himself!!) .bto is my 2nd alltime favorite band by the way,,,after sabbath...

  • @tommieparch Not. It gave respect for his great guitar playing. I'm sorry you only look for Ozzie's heavy chords. But did you listen to this guitarist? Rock is cool and Randy rocks on this. Open your ears because this song blows most guitarists away....NOT Iron Man

  • Comment removed

  • @elrip1 Thh .LOL comment below is for you

  • @tommieparch You can't compare the guitarists you mentioned to each other. The styles are so very different.

I thought getting a hit single was a goal of every rocker with a gleam in their eye. I see you have a passion for the bles and especially heavy blues. All the guitarists you mentioned absolutely kill in their styles and venues.

I love Iommi's and Hendrix use of Marshalls and feedback for sound.

Rory is great too. I'm not bitchin' I'm just saying. I forgot how good Bachman was

  • @elrip1 But you have to admit that the best who ever picked up an electric guitar and blows me away (makes me want to hang my guitar in the closet forever) is Chet Atkins and Les Paul.

Listen to those guys. Truely listen to their guitar work and holy smokes! Man oh man, sheesh! Technically, structurally, soulfully, gymnastically, instrumentally, fingerly, soundfully and everything else. Nobody compares...nobody! Get over the genre thing and listen to virtuoso. Les Paul & Chet.

  • @elrip1 I gotta agree with you man!...By the way I forgot to mention Mark Farner (I guess that brings us back to your heavy blues comment.. I got what you meant....Tommy

  • outstanding, randy makes writing music seem so easy. randy rules the planet

  • THE SONG ABOUT THE MEANING OF LIFE !!! AND THATS THE WAY IT IS !!!

  • A dark ale, a starry sky, a cool summer's night and midnight blues. Awesome vibe!

  • Some of the best guitar players on earth in this band. Song is almost 40 yrs old and still a gem.

  • sweet guitar....

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • I absolutely love this song

  • ...Very much like Sting's "It's probably me"..trippy...but Randy was first!

  • The chords right after 4:37 - ooooooh! I remember this was from the "Head on" album (the cover of which featured a completely totaled race car) and I bought it as a high school student thinking it was going to contain the next "Roll on down the highway". At the time I was disappointed with this song and album (frankly, it depressed me). Now, I find the guitar work mesmerizing. E assim como os outros aqui eu gosto os cantoros do Brasil e tambem "bossa nova". Que legal, Senhor Randy!

  • 30 + yrs. has passed since I last heard this gem. I recall seeing BTO at SIU-Carbondale, Il. in 74 or 75 and they gave it 110%. Great band.

  • So cool.....

  • I love this song, glad you posted it :-)

  • Pure Lenny Breau influence!

  • Today I associate this song with the San Jose Sharks hockey club who beat out the Detroit Red Wings in seven games. THE WORDS SAY IT ALL.

  • wow......wow

  • The times changed fast. 10 years before this song a popular TV show was "Gomer Pyle", about a short haired US Marine. Looking at Randy Bachmans hair seems a long way from Gomer Pyle.

  • @illustrate100

    Shazaam!! Goallllly! Hey Goober.

    PYLE!

  • Always loved this song, but until I listened to it recently I had never realized how BRAZILIAN-inspired it is! Still has a pretty potent message, maybe not politically-correct enough tho' for 2011 !

  • @StamfordAmy Couldn't agree more. Randy's vocal reminds me of Brian Wilson on his Brazilian-influenced Beach Boys tune "Busy Doin' Nothin'."

  • @StamfordAmy It's not "Brazilian" inspired it's JAZZ inspired...Randy Bachman played a lot of Jazz before BTO and The Guess Who.

  • @455Transam Correct,Bachman is a HUGE fan of jazz and studied under his mentor Jazz legend Lenny Breau.

  • Im a lookin out for #1 but not forgettin#2!

  • guitar on this song is just sooooo sweet...

  • randy should of known this song would end btos success! like clap for the wolfman ended the guess who, (even tho randy leavin was a bigger blow). burton should of known better! they both had alot more to give. too bad..the ballad blue collar was much more rock than this.

  • @tommieparch How does one song "end" a band??

  • ive been knowin this song forever excellent

  • The thing about older songs like these versus modern-day pop songs people LOVE is that, after 2 years most people "HATE" the modern pop songs... but after 30 years, songs like these are STILL loved by those who first listened to them, and generations after! Good music really does rule the test of time!

  • When your a kid and like a "band", it shocks you, at first, when someone, leaves "The Group", and puts out fantasic songs on their own. I would say that easily thousands of people did not know for years the BTO, sprouted from Guess Who.

  • This is awesome. I was singing this tune to myself and bam !!! was able to find it here. Great post!

  • great song, don't understand why this song is never played on the radio unlike their other hits, I know this song is a departure to their other hits but it's still a great song

  • My FAVORITE BTO tune. Beautiful Mellow!!!!!

  • this sounds sooo good-thanks for posting!

  • Randy could of played guitar in STeely, for sure.. because he was(is) a Jazz guitarist playing rock, not the other way around. For that matter, the original Guess Who was really a Jazz quartet doing there best to play rock or wheatfield soul.

  • Looking Out for No.2 dislikes

  • genius...pure genius.

  • I just heard Randy play this tune on CBC Radio One, his show called Randy's Vinyl Tap. I hadn't heard it in years and realize that he had nailed the "smooth jazz" sound long before that genre came along.

Randy's a genius guitarist and an impressive arranger. Bravo!

  • Looking Out For Number One was a pretty good hit back in the middle 70's I remember, but felt it should have been even a number one hit. Its my favorite song. It was a big hit, but not as big as the others.

  • @Jjonathanhart Yes, a really great tune. Perhaps this tune was too mellow for the average BTO fan back then, not sure. If you get a chance, tune in on a Friday night(on-line) to hear Randy Bachman's great radio show called Vinyl Tap. His show is on CBC Radio One Vancouver, Toronto and other cities, so there's a variety of time s that the two-hour show is on-air.

    Happy listening!

  • Incredible song! Hadn't heard it in forever. The only reason I heard it recently is because they had it as background music for a Valentine's add on a radio station here in San Diego. It bugged me, because I recognized the song as one I really loved, but it took me a little while to place it. I knew I had it, and remembered that my mom had this album when I was young. She would play it all of the time.

  • This song it is a kind of tribute to bossa nova, undoubtedly they celebrate the art of the brazilian composer Carlos Antonio Jobim. This song resembles the harmony and estructure of the hit Samba de uma nota Só (One note samba). Good stuff!!!

  • Best song they did.

  • solo at 4:00 is awesome :D Respect to Randy's jazz technique

  • This takes them to an alltogether higher level I mean how much 4 Wheel drive can you digest.

  • great stuff!!thanks!

  • Good lyrics. This is also a good song. A little on the jazzy side. I believe this was their last single and album before breaking up.

  • @Jjonathanhart You right this is the last album. But not right @ rhythm, what is bossa nova.

  • I don't know what bossa nova is. Actually, as I'm older I see Randy Bachman is a pretty good lead guitarist. His style reminds me a little bit of the late Jerry Garcia from GRATEFUL DEAD and a few other guitar players I can't think of right at the moment. Did you know Randy used to play with THE GUESS WHO before he formed BTO?

  • @Jjonathanhart Bossa Nova(Brasilian Portugese for "the new thing, the new groove, the new wave"). It's a blend of traditional Brasilian samba and American jazz which evolved into a great sound around 1959. From then until the late 60's, bossa nova got lots of air-play, especially the legendary LP Getz-Gilberto, Segrio Mendes Brasil 65 & 66, and many other groups. There are hundreds of bossa nova recordings. I have over 300 bossa nova LPs in my music archives. Yeah, I dig it!

  • smooth...really cool. great guitar phrasing. love it . the bachman brothers make me proud to be canadian.

  • Mt favorite BTO song. Sounds a little like "Undun"

  • @dhloup1 Similar jazz chords, right!

  • Love BTO! Haven't heard this for far too long! Really a great find!

  • great song...another great song is Blue Collar. We Canadians can kick ass when we want to.

  • Always have to remember that!

  • Great song, wish this song was as well known as "Let it Ride", "Takin Care of Business", "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" and "Hey You"

  • I was surprised that this was BTO who did this song, this song definitely sounds like something Steely Dan or Boz Scaggs would do

  • While this style typically is not my cup of tea, I have ALWAYS loved this song so much.

  • A favorite tune...sounds alot like Steely Dan.....

  • Has a Jazzy sound to it.....BTO gos JAZZZ!!!! LOL

  • Has a Jazzy sound to it.....

  • This tune showcases just how brilliant a guitarist Randy Bachman is. The guitar work is simply breathtaking!

  • This song showcases just how brilliant Randy Bachman is. The guitar work is simply outstanding.

  • where do yu find talent now

  • At 4:03 this song just takes you to another planet. Brilliant Randy and echoes of

Lenny Breaux, his instructor...look him up....a jazz guitar pioneer!!

  • Dude was so under estimated for his talent..

  • I wish someone would make a video for Wontcha Take Me For Awhile, I love that song!

  • I freakin' love this song! Believe it or not, this is probably my favourite BTO song!

    Thanks for posting!

  • This is one of the few BTO songs that reminds me Randy came from the Guess Who. Lovely guitars and vocals.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Randy's best 2 songs are this and Undone w/ The Guess Who. Simply brilliant song writing. Blue Collar is a very close 3rd IMO

  • Thanks for posting this great tune. I'll never understand why Smooth Jazz formatted radio stations never played this song. One of my all-time favorites.

  • if you really listen, you'll discover the secrets to life. oh yeah: lenny breau rules....

  • THIS IS THE TRUTH. take shit from nobody. CASE CLOSED....

  • so jazzy. lovesit

  • the best chords and lead lines

  • Classy tune from some of the masters of rock and roll.

  • This was really good. The song is soothing, yet it keeps you interested so you don't doze off.

  • One of my favoured. I alway wondered how this really fitted in to the BTO rock profile. just love it. And why didnt they make more of this stuff

  • boy this song take's me back...... Love It. thanx!

  • Glad you posted this song, I've been looking for it for 2 years, really miss this song, its been 20 yrs since i heard it last, and my vinyl was stolen, thank you so much

  • @drachiracseid I am glad it to be thanked you

  • @drachiracseid you`ve been lookin`out for no.1.

  • @moongray2 THANKS MOONGRAY2!!!!

awesome licks & smooth Jazz all thrown together by Randy Bachman-What more could you ask for?

I love Fred Turner also-Can't wait to see Bachman & Turner together again!! Great CD BOYS-loved you in the 70's & still do.

  • music for my soul.

  • I have not heard this gem in a while!!! Thanks for putting it up.

  • Listen to Chic' s You can't do it alone! Sounds the same.

  • I reall loved Bachman Turner overdrive but this is my favorite song by them, more jazzy than rock and roll thank you moongray2

  • @knight41861

I too love this song. I used to use the instrumental beginning at 4:00 as a filler at the end of my personal fav's cassette tapes (remember those?) --- it was my "signiture" for all custom tapes.

  • Cool tune real JAZZY feel/sound to it.....mellow out Man!! lol

  • Fuck me! Kiss???(my ass) Worst mother fuckers ever... Kiss R&R? Are you joking, now...?

  • This song remains me staying at the hospital for 3 weeks after an accident with my bike in 1976...and I was the only one in the hospital room who had a *own* radio with him :-) I was then 15.

The 2 other room mates were so glad to hear some *other* music. And this song which actually was playing very much then in that period....I really am keeping it with me thinking about that time!!!

  • Genius! Are you sure these guys arent American?Song almost makes me want to immigrate. Damn Canadiens.

  • Bachman's finest recorded moment here as a guitar player, IMO. Plus, this song stands wayyyyy out from all that harder- rockin' BTO stuff, which kind of gets boring. To me, Lookin' Out's wayyyyy more timeless.

  • @gorillabelly1

That is a reason ecause I love this song, because I am a BJH lover and NOT a BTO lover.....BJH forever***** From England

  • seriously Kiss in the RRHF -can;t sing and can;t play ,deep purple blows kiss outa the water no contest.

  • Yeah, it is a joke calling it 'The Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame' when they induct acts like that hip-hop duo who covered Aerosmith's 'Walk this Way'.

  • What's with the mix?

  • Ahhh yes . . . I remember this one well. Who know a bunch of white boys from Canada could be so soulful (lol). This reminds me of summer in the mid-70s, great time to be a teenage girl! I'd hear this on the local FM station along with a lot of Steely Dan (thus began my 30+ year love affair with the music of Fagan and Becker). This sound was such a departure for BTO. It truly stands out in a Steely Dan sort of way. Love this like that 15 year old so long ago Music is one powerful MoFo.

  • HEY-HEY--I agree with everything you just said. Wanted to say if you like this soulful ditty, check out, "BLUE COLLAR", by this same band.....................PEACE :)

  • This is very "soulful" but you know - we got a taste of what these guys were capable of with "Undun" by the Guess Who - you sure hear this kind of sound in that song

  • You sound like my kind of girl. Where were you in 1975??!

  • California (born and raised) -- at a time when the state was still golden (lol)

  • @ilovegoodsax You have great taste my dear. I still own this album on vinyl.

  • @grantjames333 And I'd like to think that like a fine wine, my taste in music has only gotten better with age over the last 35 years. Afterall, a woman that loves "good sax" (and yes, that is a play on words) has got to possess some level of sophistication (lol). Thanks for the compliment my friend. ;-)

  • @ilovegoodsax I thought these guys were Mormon boys from Utah. I swear I heard that. I heard that they didn't have any vices, except that the liked to eat alot. No?

  • @Jeannified I hadn't heard the Mormon story about these guys. And, I didn't know they were from the Canadian heartland until I sought this song out here on YT. I would've never guess it.

  • @ilovegoodsax ....It's so funny you say that. I remember laying a needle onto this album years ago and having to check n see if this wasn't Steely Dan playing as a guest artist or something. This is one of those 'hidden gems' not too many people know about..

  • @ilovegoodsax Now that you mention it, it does remind me of Steely Dan (one of my all time favorite bands too) Sort of in the same vein as "Only a Fool would Say That"

  • @ilovegoodsax The 70's were GREAT YEARS!!!!! I know how You feel because i was coming of age too. 18 to be exact!!!!!

  • Pure talent!!!

  • This song illustrates talent beyond the heavier pounding BTO songs. Too bad the later, so called "heavy metal" bands never matched this type of versatility. Thanks for posting the song! Great sound.

  • brilliant in every way

  • Get the BTO ANTHOLOGY, it's the best

  • Very special, and imo underrated.

  • Timeless...... Briljant!

  • This song is just FANTASTIC; very cool!!!

Amazing song with BOSSA NOVA influence; to listen and dream on!

  • groovy and great!

  • Bachman Turner Overdrive, Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings and the Guess Who forever. Hardrock BTO, and this easylistening is the exception that fits the rule ... nice composition, nice singing, excellent instrumentation..... stil after almost forty years!!

  • Check Scorching Beauty by Iron Butterfly and tell me the vocalist doesn't sound nearly identical to

    Burton Cummings...awesome tune!

  • this song and blue colar are both great. this one is really unknown to many rock fans. what a shame. love the brazilian guitar sounds.

  • wow, that intro is hard to figure out on guitar

  • Try these chords: Intro F#m7 F7 E7sus4 A5 -- then -- Am7 G#7 G7sus4 C5. The verse is a pain in itself -- but this is a beautiful song inspired by Lenny Breau.

  • Thank you, I wasn't even hoping someone would have the courtesy of telling us this!

If Randy Bachman isn't yet in the Rock and roll Hall of fame, I mean wtf are they waiting for???? Flying beavers?

  • R-n-R Hall of Fame is a Joke!!! KISS, DEEP PURPLE etc... are not in yet??

    WTF!!!

  • mqblues

Randy had it good with a great like Lenny Breau from Manitoba and other influences like Les Paul to learn from. His playing shows it.

    verse B11 A#m7b5 Am7 E/G # C7/G F#m7 Fmaj7 G

  • This is a good song but Blue Collar is much better. Great tune for cycle riding. Thanks for posting this.

  • I liked it immediately when I heard it for the first time on Arrow Jazz FM. Very special tune.

  • Que banda maravilhosa! Sou fanzaço! Puro rock dos anos 70. Ótimos tempos.

  • One other thing--LOVE THE CHORD PROGRESSIONS and the studio layering of all the guitars...just brilliant...musicians and producers alike!!!

  • Canadian Randy Bachman does Brazilian flavored Bossa Nova and it TOTALLY RULES!!

I LOVE THIS SONG-ALWAYS HAVE. And all those great Randy arpeggio high neck solos are truly beautiful. THIS IS ONE OF BTO's greatest songs and like 5 people (except here..!) have experienced it. GREATNESS....Play on, Randy!!!

  • I like the song. I heard at a local jazz radio.

One other favorite i like to plug is; Sensual with tique tim

  • When i first heard this song i had a very pleasant evening with a young lady.

i wanted to play this song and took jazz-guitar lessons. The song is still special to me and in a world of idols and wannabee artists .

  • I heard this on WOZZ appleton yesterday for the first time in forever and that lead me here.good thing.

  • Beautiful song, but I like Blue Collar a little more. You can find Blue Collar on YouTube by just typing it in the search bar at the top of the screen.

  • I LOVE B.T.O.!!! AWESOME SONG!! :0)

  • thank you for posting this song, once in awhile great medium comes along to let enjoy the simpleler thing and you tube has got to be the best, and when it comes to BTO, mixed with you tube, you have perfection....thanks so much

  • When you are pleased, I am glad.thank you

  • I've always admired Randy Bachman's guitar skills since the Guess Who's "Undun", and probably too much, too. I've often felt he was that rare rock guitarist who could easily sit in at Rudy Van Gelder's jazz studio doing a Blue Note session or at any Nashville country recording date you care to name. The man can flat-out pick and is a direct descendant of Les Paul. Of course, he doesn't need me telling him what to do with all those nice residual checks his grandchildren will probably still get.

  • the only song that charted from this album

  • wow..... awesome stuff. I remember this well. If you like this find a BTO tune call Blue Collar. One of my all time favorites!

  • 4:00 onward is just awesome

  • I love this

  • such an excellent song. I really want to learn how to play it! great musicianship!!

  • Wow, I have been looking for this song for 30 years, and here it is Thanks a lot

  • Man, I love this track.

What are some other songs/artists similar to this?

  • How about Juliette of Kalapana?

  • Blue Collar also by BTO sounds very similar

  • @HansHellman The Guess Who

  • this is atune for every guitar player to jam with

  • . . . taken' 'ya back to the mellow sounds of the early 70s . . . cool stuff. Used to enjoy playing BTO on the air.

  • a Canadian great!

  • BOSSA NOVA out from Brazil !!!

  • Love this Song, and I've always lived by it... Thanx Guys for the post ... I'tts just Great!!! Thanks, Gary

  • Great song!

  • one of my favs!

  • thanks for putting this out here!!!

  • The other facette of BTO. Jazzy sounds.

  • Some immigrants don't get the picture.

Or refuse to. Most of them not, fortunately.

The solution is simple; send the unwilling back home.

But no, they're rewarded over here.
