the grateful dead's music changed my life i was a satanist for many years until I heard this song it really made me realize how bad I was fucking up with drugs and other shit. thank god for Mr. Garcia. "A box of rain will ease the pain and love will see you through."
And it's just a box of rain or a ribbon for your hair. For reasons unknown to most the boy's did love to play in philly,if you think about some of the heavier shows on most east coast tours that stopped in philly 9/21/72 it does not get any better than this though 9/21/73 is close.8/4 and 8/5/74 the civic center of the hook,'76 tower of the other hook'77 a litlle weak for '77 shows'78 a little weak but they get it right back from'79 thru'88 and everyone knows the'90's sucked anywhere they played
Great audio, 2 thumbs up!! Shows at the Spectrum were always boss!! BTW the Spectrum will be demolished in the next few months. Lots of history there.
They were playing very well. I remember the Other One being particularly hot... These shows and the Cap Center run before this were some of the best I saw...
lately phil is running rings around bobby vocally, imho. not that either are exactly beverly sills, but phil has definitely improved since he's taken the reins of his 'friends' project and it seems bobby has gotten rather sloppy with ratdog (though he can have his moments)
This was the best post I could find of this song. You know, we didn't care if they hit the notes. What heart rending beautiful music! Maybe I didn't care because that oriental carpet they were standing on was moving around!
Does anybody know of a really good live video of this song? On most of them, Phil sings terrible- on this version, his voice is great, but here he's chopping up the song with some different melodic/rhymic phrasing that ruins what would have been an otherwise stellar performance. Is there a video here that fully does true justice to the album version of this song?
I find it funny that the guy got -4 for speaking his mind. I honestly think Phil is pretty bad at singing, and he is bad sounding in this version too, haven't found one where I like his voice really... But I still love the guy for his talent and I also just love the Dead and all of it's past and current members. He's good at guitar, but I have to be honest, I've never liked his singing voice. Regardless of how his voice sounds, Box of Rain is still a beautiful song.
True. His breaks between words while singing kind of interrupts the flow of the song, making it a shorter choppy sound. Bu you know how the good ole dead never play a live song the same twice so im sure you will find one you like even better than the studio.
We used to be able to tape and trade shows free for the fans. Now youtube, internet archives, and other sites tried to share the music and it gets pulled. A new double standard along with their new political endorsements. Jerry truely kept things in line back in the good ole days, bless him.
Best band ever.

Respect fellow deadheads. That's what a real "non newbie or non poser" deadhead would tell you.
