  • Best. Hip. Hop. Album. Ever..There may be album just as good, but nothing is better.

  • is it just me or is it kind of scary how damn good the music was in that time period

  • @lowgannn its not you, I just started listening to this and I'm 28. My mom sheltered from rap. Compaired to the B.S. thats put out now(except kid cudi, common, outkast, lupe) the early 90's is the best era of hip hop.period.

  • you the transaction...brothers getting caught in the weed satisfaction.......ROLL THAT SHIT UP!!!!!!

  • midnight marauders was there best album i wore that cd out

  • man this is some real music

  • summertime shit 93 babe.

  • @tub99899

Woof down a hero at the bodega.. Eat his sandwich at the corner store.

  • This should have got 5 mics...

  • I loved the interludes on here.

  • @ 0.56 does he say "woof down a hero" or "wolf down a gyro"?

  • This group changed the way i thought about hip hop forever.

  • @CKaGeDUBStep i agree massively,i think this is possibly one of the best hip-hop tracks ever

  • @lawson8427 Hell yeah bro

  • yes

  • what an album! the last great day of hip hop November 9, 1993 ;)

  • @BrentDThurman Are you kidding me? Hip-hop stopped being GREAT in 1996 when 2Pac and later Biggie died. That's when hip-hop was taken over by shiny suits and pop garbage. 1993, 94, 95 and 96 were all healthily good years for hip-hop. I'd kill to have hip-hop go back to those years. But yeah, 1993 is the greatest year in hip-hop ever.

  • @fleshnbone187 thats pretty much what i meant. I was refferening to 11/9/1993 the day "Enter the 36 Chambers" & "Midnight Marauders" was released. That was the last day 2 MONUMENTAL alums were released simultaneously. 97 was when the "shit" started its pollution IMO as well ;)

  • @fleshnbone187 "stakes" is classic. "it was written" COULD have been but he went w/ track masters, ditched extra p, LEs, Tip, & Primo..(except for "I gave u power") "lifestyles of poor & dangerous" was dope but not classic. I don't hunk there is a day that can compete! haha! but i feel ya, nice to go back and forth w/ someone here who knows whats up w good music ;)

  • @BrentDThurman True dat, but I just discovered that All Eyez on Me and The Score came out on the same day as well. Now that's a double classic. Although you might argue that All Eyez on Me has a bit of filler which is true to an extent but still one of the greatest double albums. You do have a point, though, never was there a release date when two classics of MM and 36 Chambers classic came out on.

  • @fleshnbone187 Capital Punishment : 1998

  • @bruno21390 What's your point? That's a dope album and all, but I can find at least two superior 98 albums in Aquemini and Moment of Truth. Dope hip-hop albums have never stopped coming out, it's just that there are not as many of them since 1997 as there was before that.

  • @fleshnbone187 YES yo those were the years man. I was a teenager then and i always had my walkman on and my radio was always blasting...those were the days. 1993 was when hip hop peaked...I remember that year distinctly!

  • @damiononupsal Lucky you, I wish I had been living in the New York or L.A. streets during the late 80s and early 90s. The thought of going into a store and buying 36 Chambers & Midnight Marauders would keep me busy for a long time. And then later that month Doggystyle came out. And that's just the mainstream stuff. The underground in both gangsta rap and conscious was also on a roll.

  • @fleshnbone187 i saw midnight marauders and 36 chambers in their entirety at rock the bells the same day ... u know the feelin

  • real hiphop!

  • comin down the block, man loud as fuck

  • @Legacy0fBlood1 you could swear Redman was inside the trunk!!

  • sick beat

  • im gonna try to be cool and claim this is real hiphop and make fun of mainstream. OK?

  • Comment removed

  • who would dislike this... smh

  • omg dis song bring me back. i was raised off it.

    Ben Fame Freestyle

  • Are you serious? Tairy Hesticles? 5 years and you're still hosting my favorite music?

  • MM's was the best, but.......

i know its really clasped hands, but somebody had to notice prior to this album's release what they're cover of choice REALLY looked like. and the model is obviously a woman which makes it even more disturbing..

  • @YungTigerWu I think the breasts make it very clear that it's the model of a woman. With that said, I never really cared about what it looks like, I always liked the drawing and the color combination. Red, green and black is an awesome color combination!

  • Hard track yo classic album ,luv there music real rap 90s shit was bumpin

  • i just BOUGHT this album and "Paths and Travels...." at the store for 20 bucks. well spent. i hope they get bak together.

  • q-tip you are the king of all the music!

  • had this album on original tape... the tribe, awesome!!!

  • one of the best songs ever made

  • This shit is far more superior than anything on the radio right nowadays. Damn... Haha.

  • act high and mighty kids this shit is way better than the techno bullshit out now days. Good thing is that the shit out now always inspires people who are tired of it to put out brilliant stuff.

  • If Tribe can get squared with the cock-blocking record company for a reunion to release a new studio CD, I'm all over that in a heartbeat. Tribe knows they still got plenty of fans for support, and believe that they won't sell out on their sound that made them. Which the cock-blocking record company wants them to do to get the deal done.

  • dude i'm totally 8 years old and hate normal music thumbs up! !!!!!!

  • @88Cortex Thank you.

  • Tribe is the only group where I could listen to the cd straight through without skipping over a track. Even their weakest songs were great. Midnight mauraders is a classic and their best work although The Low End Theory is a classic as well.

  • I'm 3 years old and this shit sucks

  • @XxDirxEnxGreyxX shut up you little shit

  • @cursivedubline5 If you can't handle the truth, then kill yourself, bro

  • @XxDirxEnxGreyxX ur to young to understand true hip hop and u obvisouly aint got taste no affence

  • @teaute01 Thanks for clearing that up :)

  • OMG I'm like 15 years old and like this music AND listen to music from a different generation!! It's probably because i'm a drop out gimp that spends all day youtube. People It's abnormal to listen just to modern music, so just listen to the song and shut up, please. Massive Benders.

  • @jackjackhowell take yo ass back to school

  • Hi im 35 and well i have herpes

  • @ktittykittylicklick9 lemme hit u with some antibiotics

  • @ktittykittylicklick9 everybody get herpies once in a while.

  • The ending is OFF THE HOOK! MANNNNN as long as I can listen to music like this, I can live without the radio! (THANK GOD!)

  • brings me back! damn, son!

  • @dablacksquad ?Wat? U a fan of hip hop I see.

  • This album gets heavy rotation in my truck phone and computer lol I bought it on the day it came out true oldskool hip-hop head representing- fav groups pharcyde quest roots, 4 life son !

  • You kids are really cool... listening to music different from your peers... just keep down the pretentious attitude.

  • @TheCagedTiger lol you're right. It's all the same. We just like this because it's not 'in' and not because it's incredibly well produced smooth soulful hip-hop with lyrics a real person can relate to. No, that's not it at all, we just wanna counter culture yo- oops, I mean our peers.. We're so pretentious the way we revolve around the mainstream pop. Along with the rest of the world. lol. Yes, quite pretentious indeed.

  • @FSquid nicely done

  • @TheCagedTiger this is youtube aha

  • @TheCagedTiger ha real talk ha im always seein a kid my age stating wen he was born an bashin new stuff in tha hope they get like a 1000likes?

  • @higherlevel28

shit dude, 55 thumbs, I'm the coolest guy in town

  • 1 person doesn't know why in the hell does 10-4 keep frontin.

  • "As the night seems darker/Cops are on the hunt/They interupt your cypher/And crush your blunt/You see ya left ya work at home/So they pat you down for nothin'/Why in the hell does 10-4 keep frontin' ?..."

That's called a Hip Hop experience.

    Word.

  • I remember when this cd first dropped, I was a junior in high school.. I listened to this song over and over while I was getting to go out. I still do.. 18 years later. Midnight Marauders will always be my favorite album, from beginning to end.

The word maraud means to loot. In this case, we maraud for ears!

  • i prefer this to the low end theory

  • This came out almost 20 years ago and it still sounds fresher than 99% of what's come out since

  • @ilovegarlic77

thats crazy to think...i remember when shit just came out...was hot then still hot now...

  • old school artists top all of the so called new artists

  • pshhhh....i go way back be4 my time! ... nas, old school ''Common'', GZA, public enemy, wu thang! haha nd im only 12.... next female rapper! just diggin the good stuff!;] btw i love this!

  • dammn Q-Tip have THE flow

  • @dosfader DA REAL SHIT !!!!!!

  • i've always hated most rap/hip-hop (with the exception of "trip-hop" like bjork), and always prefered like prog rock, post-punk, jazz, blues, country, and classical, but these guys r kinda sounding alright. need a full album to be sure tho, recommendations?

  • @canthinkverywell Midnight Marauders is my favorite album that ATCQ ever put out. It's definitely worth a listen.

  • @canthinkverywell best hits? they're all good tho

  • this beat is absolutely destructive. - perfect for a chill session in my basement on the couch... if u know what i mean

  • 1 idiot took part in our survey, thanks for participating.

  • i cant stand most of the rap i hear. eminem and other crap like that. but this shit is on point. i like these guys, black sheep, and the me myself and i guys. thats it.

  • @attilathefun1 By the 'Me, Myself and I' guys, I guess you mean De La Soul? All those acts are associated with a hip-hop movement called the Native Tongues Posse. I recommend you check out The Jungle Brothers, who were also members of that collective - chances are you'll like them too. Pharcyde, Gravediggaz, Souls of Mischief and Jurassic 5 are also worth checking out if you're into this style.

  • @attilathefun1 you mean de la soul?

  • @attilathefun1 the one think i can say about eminem is at least he doesn't go into the whole "i got hoes, money, jewlery, and im from da hard streets" bull...but i will say im kinda tired of hearing him now (he was more fun to listen to when he first came out, but then again everyone says that about artists they've known so yeah.)

on topic: i would like to publicly thank my father for making sure i grew up with good music to listen to. (such as this) if he didn't i'd be lost.

  • when im up late at night i make it a priority to listen to this. such a great song!

  • yo seriously im 4 and a half years old and thanks to hip hop i have a high school vocabulary im so cool because im young this music is great TUPAC IS ALIVE HURRRR

  • who the fuck would dislike this? 1 fucking dumb fuck. i feel bad for his mom. smh

  • The night is on my mind, the sun still shines.

  • A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight: 38,087 views

    Lil Wayne - Lollipop - 56,580,612 views

what is wrong with people nowadays :/

  • @johnny4463435 a lot

  • @johnny4463435 It's because this song wasn't a single, so you can't clarify that.

Compare Electric Relaxation instead of Midnight.

  • coming down the block man loud as fuck you would swear redman was inside the trunk.

    CLASSIC!!!

  • @illmatic826 O.G.

  • thank god that i wasnt the only one hearing the popping noise

  • this is so hard reminds me of my nightmoves ya know yea

  • Does anyone else notice a popping sound? Was it intentional? I just noticed it after years.

  • @keybladekid0 its the sound of a record

  • @keybladekid0 it's an intentional effect. It's not a popping, it's a crackling. The crackling of vinyl. A record.

Soul, Funk, Disco, Motown, Jazz samples would retain the 'crackle' in the early days, but by the time technology developed & creativity diversified, some producers would insert the crackle as an aesthetic - sometimes to drop hints to their roots, the old school, authenticity etc. Groups like The Roots still do this.

  • ABSOLUTELY the best album they made...if you dont believe that, put this cd in your car and adjust your speakers.....bangin !!

  • olllllldddskkooolll

  • "did you know that the rate of AIDS in the black and hispanic communities is rising at an alarming rate?"

they should learn how to wear condoms then :P

  • @benGO94

I was quoting the song, dumbass. listen to the end when the woman is talking.

  • @TheLukiieBoii LOL homosexuality is not exclusive to white people/didn't come from whites, and AIDS came from Africa... y so srs? all I did was quote a section from a song and everyone gets bent out of shape.

  • Comment removed

  • @StivPugliese wtf are you talking about?

  • even for a joke, this really proves how uneducated you are about the issue - it is not a hate comment, but just an opportunity for you to learn

    Ask yourself the question why?

  • @icansortaswing whatever.

  • coomin down tha bloack being loud as fuck , you would swear redman was inside the trunk

tell me that shit wouldnt be loud lol

    they paint pictures

  • i was bumpin this back all my friends used 2 like master p. lol

  • @detumus

heh, who remember master p know? and he was so popular back then.

Im personally a big ATCQ fan.

  • I remember Buying the Midnight Marauders tape when I was 15 and coming back from the mall on the bus listening to the album on my "walk man" At first listen it was already a classic. Great time to be a teen...just a great time in general. Shut out to the thirty somethings out there !

  • @dedricthere Damn I hate these comments, because they just remind me how my generation's hip-hop is nothing compared to late 80's to mid 90's. So many classics in 93 and 94. The chances of picking up a classic nowadays is so slim like 0.00045%.

  • a few of us managed, I love tribe more than so many of these garbage "rappers". little wayne is little shame

  • @blaaahah what up, a few of us managed to do what? be more descriptive?

  • managed to pick up the the real music

  • @blaaahah Real hip-hop from then or now?

  • from then, obviously, tribe is one of my favorite groups of all time, along with de la soul and bone thugs

  • @blaaahah I was 1 when this came out so there was no chance of me picking this up. But, Tribe is one of my favorites. De La Soul is a new favorite. Never really got into Bone Thugs.

  • this album took me through grade 11

    CLASSIC

shot out to darkman and the funkmobile

  • I love this song. That production was so ahead of it's time.

  • The best music was deffinately made back in the day. =]

  • di bes bombo claat rap group of all time!!

  • q tip is my top 7 for life

  • This joint still get me amped

  • @AminTheMighty me too hahahah dude i'm 31 and this makes me have fun all over again.

  • ay hold up u cant put 50 up dere wit cheezy weey n t-pain n dem commerical niggaz im 16 imma 50 fan til i die but i listen 2 da 90's 95 was a gud year 4 hip hop in my opinion

  • yo im 17 to i feel you mainstream has inbreeded with pop rock and go go rap

  • Such an ill song

  • im 17 old school hip hop has always been where its at. Mainstrain music now makes me sick !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm 17 too and share your opinion completely bro.

  • True indeed. It's on the artists to devote themselves to their art and not to the pop charts.

  • @ej6379 exactlyy man im 17 also but i really only dig the old school beatz. biggie, lost boyz, nas, tupac, and people like JFK 2 LAX is the man. like come on lil wayne raping about licking lollipops.

  • @ej6379

Real music is still being made, you just have to look for it :)

    Live!

  • @ej6379 Even the good artists aren't mainstream now. I'm 17 also.

  • @ej6379 HIP HOP !

  • @ej6379 16 here bro, totally agreed.

  • @ej6379 how is your age of relevance like dededeclown said just enjoy the music!

  • This song was always credited as A Tribe Called Quest ft. Raphael Wiggins (Raphael Saadiq)... Where exactly does Saadiq appear? I've always wondered it

  • Production?

  • @TairyHesticles he wouldn't come up as a featuring artist, that's not how it works in hip-hop credits. he'd have to be on turntables or playing some kind of instrument.

  • No, the funny thing is that at Discogs, it says 'Rap (featuring)'.... Saadiq rapping?

It could be the production, but Large Pro and Skeff Anslem are credited as beatmakers in this album... why not credit Saadiq? Dunno...

  • Saadiq do play an instrument...may have done the bass or keyboards
