  • I was quite young when joe died around 7 maybe but i still remembering hearing my mom telling my brother he died... I listened to the clash but i didn know who they were or who he wa just knew it was something really important still remember the exact place where i was standing... I had a big knot in my stomach and I didnt know why at the time ... I know now... Thank You immortal Joe Strummer for ever alive through your music... good night

  • And then Joe dies shortly after

  • The only band that matters!

  • Émouvant tout simplement.

  • Ohhh Joe, RIP! coz i love you since i'm around 10 y.o.-)

  • wow. that's all i have to say.

it would have been an honor to be apart of that crowd. I was nine at the time. its a shame. RIP Joe!

  • unreal!

  • what a great moment ...

  • great video. i saw joe in thessaloniki on there tour with the mescaleros and i felt like the luckiest man in the world that night as a huge fan of the clash.

although i will never have the chance to see the original clash. the reason now of the ending of clash was that Paul Simonon at that time didnt even spoke with Mick. and Joe desided with Paul and their manager

to kick off Mick. As Joe admit after 15 years it was his biggest mistake. i agree.

    g4

  • This band's story is heart breaking. Whenever Mick talks about The Clash he consistently expresses regret, apologizing for acting arrogant and stupid. If you look at what has happened to U2, and this summer's Police reunion it quickly becomes apparent that, had they stayed together, The Clash would be HUGE right now. But now Joey's gone.

  • @Quickstoptim I've wondered if The Clash have ever considered doing some gigs with Ian Hunter (one of Joe's heroes) on the vocal and rhythm guitar parts. I was a jazz snob (still love jazz) when the Clash were breaking out and I was an American living in England at the time. I remember The Clash,UK Subs, Buzzcocks,The Skids,Public Image on the telly. I remember thinking OMG what is happening to music at the time. Ha ha. The Clash were brilliant! I missed out, I didn't "get it" at the time.

  • @talkingwall He did, im not sure when but just the pther day i was reading about it actually

  • didnt even know this event took place till i saw it here. thanks youtube for existing.

  • This clip shows joe strummer palying with his new band The Mescaleros, however in the audience is his old friend and fellow guitarist Mick Jones. The Mescaleros go to play the clash song Londons burning, as they play the first note mick jones steps on stage and plays the song with Joe. This is the first time the two have played together in over 15 years!

  • @donlfc Actually the Clash split in '83 and this gig was just weeks before Joe died in 2002. If you watch "the last night London Burned" clips you'll see that Mick first came on stage during Bankrobber..." Hold my coat, I'm going up!!" and also did White riot before London's burning...Still awesome though...so wish I'd been there!!

  • I live in Acton, but never got to see this, I wish I had

  • I was lucky enough to see Joe play, once, when he did the Rock Against the Rich benefit for the quasi-anarchist party, Class War. They brought ought a special edition of their paper, which said something like "We know Joe Strummer is a rich bastard, but he's giving money to us, so he's ok".

What a loss, what a pity.

  • I couldn't agree with you guys more. I love Joe dearly and I think he was a genius. But following his death, his legend often overshadows the other members. Mick, in particular, gets a lot of sh*t for his attitude and lifestyle, but I think Mick was equally brilliant.

  • I was there and it was the most brilliant gig. I ended up unconscious on a night bus in Dulwich in the fog miles from home. Wicked!

  • Yeah, I read an interview with Joe where he described himself as a half a walnut. He said he was a lyricist and needed a tunesmith. That was Mick. Both were needed for the whole walnut.

  • Yeah. Mick Jones and Joe Strummer were good friends, This is what really matters. They did music with spirit, with love, always fighting. God bless them.

  • I'm glad they performed together one last time. It would have been better if somehow the whole band was on stage once more, but even just hearing Mick on backing vocals is awesome.

  • Man, it just ain't right, but that's how it is sometimes with life. I'm from San Francisco and I missed my chance to see Joe perform here in the Fillmore district because it was a work week. I should've fucked work and gone anyway.

  • thanks for sharing this thank you

  • Friday, Nov 15, 2002. Acton Town Hall London Benefit Gig for the striking Firemen's Union, FBU.

Joe's last gig would be the following Friday in Liverpool.

  • Hey Jonesy!

  • Oh, I miss Joe......not that I ever met him, but still. You get what I mean.

  • It is a great video though

  • Not sure where you got the vid, but this footage is not from the documentary "The Last Night London Burned"

  • Great Video :)

  • that would have been good to see

  • would have given anything to see this live.

  • yeah. ur not the only one...

  • Thanks for that little slice of History and thanks to Mick & Joe for all the good times.

  • So Cool!!
