  • Does anyone know what kind of injuries Slaughter suffered as a a result of this match?

  • this is how pro wrestling should be

  • cant see the blood :(

  • These older cats earned every dollar. Nothing like today

  • djeez, this guy just wouldn't give up. Bit dumb, but surely worthy of lots and lots of respect :) Anyway, why is this one guy hitting with a shoe? Is that even allowed?

  • This has got to be the best match that either of these two were ever in. Thanks for uploading.

  • I cherish the memories from my childhood, teenage years and later. Sitting in front of the t.v. watching all my favorite heroes and villians fight it out. I love looking back at these great matches and other moments from when I was coming up and before but I also choose not to live in the past. So all you smarks here are right. Wrestling was better back then. The fans didn't complain. they just enjoyed the show. BTW a PG rating has nothing to do with how good (or bad) a show is.

  • These were the good old days. When fans were fans and they didn't refer to the show as the "product". When they didn't have to make themselves feel smart by pointing out the blading. When they didn't even know terms like blading. When they didn't sit back and whine about how much better things were in yesteryear when they look through their rose colored nostalgia glasses. • Good job Pat...

  • Comment removed

  • i feel sick after watching that

  • @endlessbug oh thats nothing

  • they lost alot of blood

  • As others have mentioned in prior comments, Slaughter's wound was caused by a "blade job" that went a bit too deep. As a result, when Slaughter is stumbling around the ring, he's legitimately woozy from loss of blood. This is from when wrestling was great; after Hulkamania, it became like a big cartoon show and it was all about keeping the interest of little kids. Now in the 2000s, it's all for the little kids again. TNA has the right idea, but they have too much of VKM's approach in there.

  • The gore by which all big time promotion matches should be judged.. IMO only the SBG/Dusty Rhodes matches at the garden between 77-79 were as bloddy. Slaughter was great! Too bad they made him Arabian later in his career. He wrestled all the top men Bockwinkle (as Super Destroyer Mark II), Backlund, Bruno, US Champ, NWA Tag Champ, etc etc etc. Additionally a POP like you'll never hear today.

  • too bad even alberto del rio can be sergeant slaughter

  • How did this feud start?

  • watch closely just after slaughter hits the post he's already bleeding

  • Wow, the crowd went absolutely wild as soon as Slaughter bled. A gory match in the Vince Sr era. There were other matches that had blood in the Vince Sr era, including Jimmy Snuka vs Bob Backlund in a steel cage. This was unplanned by Slaughter, so the ring post had to be made safer in the event of another accident.

  • This would would be WM worthy . I dont care how old it is..

  • So old school, there's not even mats outside the ring ...

  • @ 8:39 you see Vince McMahon Sr come out to check on Sgt Slaughters well being

  • @thewrestlingfan that wasn't Vince Sr ..if you get a chance to watch this match in dvd quality, you'd see

  • @Royalston It IS Vince Sr. I have the match on the WWE Hall Of Fame 2004 DVD. There is alternate commentary where Sgt Slaughter says that it is in fact Vince Sr. who walks out at the end

  • The is one greatest old fashion wrestling matches ever...period!

  • Coliseum Video "classic"...

  • Bob could really sell.

He bladed as he fell from the corner post and he went a little to deep. But he still sold that like crazy by holding his breath and staggering around the ring... then he didn't have to sell it any more.

The boot shot at the end were gruesome.

Slaughter also had great bloodbaths with Backlund (cage) and the Iron Sheik (boot camp 1&2). He was a neat hero but a better heel.

  • this started the attitude era

  • @xborii never heard such a fucking bullshit. :D

  • man this match is the real mean of EXTREME

  • Probably one of the most hardcore match I ever saw live. One of my favorites

  • There's a saying...only the best make the best matches...and that is shown here...one of the most hardcore matches EVER!

  • Slaughter is leakin a little bit! That's right up there with Muta, not quite as severe as Eddie Guerrero.

  • When one didn't need steroids , clowns and 'quasi-zombies" in "caskets" and ass- to- face rubs and wrestlers dying of steroids and other stuff mixed...

  • But you have to understand, you have to change with the times, what sells? Sex sells viloence sells and gimmicks sell.

  • I "changed" all right..I don't fucking watch it any more (!)nor will I ever go to any WWE sponsored event again...

  • I was at this match. Back twenty rows.great match.made up for andre being scratched in six man tag tea

  • great matcch

  • Pat Patterson might be a homo but he was and still is a tough son of a bitch!

  • this is an absolute classic match so thanks for uploading it.

  • augh. viscious and so hot.. yeah.. love seeing patterson so hot

  • No pyrotechnics,no funky lights,no stupid storylines.Just great old school wrestling. The way it should STILL be.But unfortunately, times change...

  • @geep20 Weird how that comment was during wrestlings last good year before it became complete shit. it was great up to 2008

  • They should have had The Great Mephisto run in and kick Pat in the nuts with the loaded curly toed boot!

  • This match was hardcore wrestling before hardcore had a name.

  • "Back when wrestling was entertaining...". I don't know. This is a bit much, isn't it?

  • I remember seeing this same match in Worcester, Ma. No white towel thrown in, but the ref did stop the match. I can remember screaming for it to be stopped. I never saw so much blood in a wrestling match before.

  • This is back when Professional Wrestling was entertaining. A tough heel would go for weeks bullying the underdogs until a hero would get involved and then the heel would get his clocked cleaned in the end. These long lasting fueds would keep the fans excited so that they'd keep coming back to see more. Another great one was the Jimmy Snuka vs Don Muraco saga of 1983. Now it all sucks - just a bunch of dialogue and acting. Most of the matches (what few there are) don't even get finished anymore.

  • Perfectly put, F1478963. I couldn't agree with you any more.

  • awesome blade job by Slaughter

  • actually i never saw the bladejob, his hands never touched his forehead long enough

  • He does the first blade right before he is catapulted by Patterson into the turnbuckle. (Watch his hand pass his head while he is on the ground. (4:04 minutes) Now this is crazy! He blades again, and cuts the hell out of himself during the actual catapult! When he acts as if his head hits the ring post after the catapult. The extent of the blading job was actually a mistake!

  • Watch real closely. At 3:47, Slaughter is getting the blade ready. At 3:53 he goes to his forehead. He did a really good job at it.

  • so what? does it make you feel like an expert pointing it out? who gives a fuck? every time there is a blade job on a clip here some geek has to point it out as if to say 'hey i know about juicing'

  • @driffter76

LOL Agreed! Someone always has to point it out.

  • AMAZING!~ The crowd reacted as if they were witnessing a man being beaten nearly to death...and they sort of were!

  • i remeber reading about this match in one of the wrestling magazines i had when i was a kid. i can not believe i just watched it! i love youtube.

  • One thing about the sgt. heel or face he was a tough dude! You coudln't put him down! The dam towel incident which was involved with slaughter vs. backlund and sheik vs. backlund existed here.

  • Hardcore personified

  • what year is this from?

  • 1981

  • Tremendous. They really trusted these two to get heat by themselves -- no Titantrons, fireworks, death metal music. And they delivered -- easily Slaughter's greatest performance, his Boot Camp Match with Sheiky Baby a close second. And listen to the crowd! Mick Foley should have studied this one more carefully -- you don't have to fall twenty or thirty feet and break tables to get heat.

  • Great match. I know that they used this tape to show the newer talents when coming in to the WWE. This match had great psychology and and was as realistic as a wrestling match could get with alot of stiff shots being thrown. And this play off really well back then being that Wrestling was seen more as a sport and there were people that really thought wrestling was real.

  • This is the way it should still be!

  • you can also see him go to his tape before being catapulted, and then after the bladejob, his hand is cupped. After he low blows Patterson, he puts the blade back into his fatigues

  • It was a bladejob - again, watch his hand go across his forehead as he falls to the canvas after hitting the post. He just cut too deep and bladed an artery

  • oh man thats no bladejob he actually hit that post

  • Amazing, a proper street fight. No silly props convinelently placed. Just a really decent fight.

  • no referee?

  • this is great.wrestling as wrestling.fun,exciting & brutal.

  • Still holds up after these years. I saw Pat Patterson say that they really beat the hell out of each other in this match. When he's whipping Slaughter with the belt - he's whipping him. Great grudge match and the crowd is so over.

  • I respect VINCE Sr for what he did for WRESTLING when

it was a Sport. But vince jr needs to be flushed down

the camode for killing WRESTLING down the camode.

  • A five-star match all the way.

  • anyone have the old cobra clutch challenges?

  • Wow! 82-83 was my favorite WWF. This is just as awesome! Classic bloodbath is correct. Slaughter did a great job selling and showing for the cameras as well. A++

  • Slaughter didn't cut himself, he really nailed the top of the ring post at 3:50 on the video. I saw this match live on TV.

  • he cut himself. Watch his hand across his forehead on the way down to the mat after he is catapulted into the post. He clearly cuts across his forehead. He tapped an artery cutting too deep, similar to Eddie Guerrero at Judgement Day 2004

  • The Grand Wizard shouldn't have thrown the towel! Still, a priceless match.

  • @arjay01ac I think if the Wizard hadn't thrown in the towel, Slaughter would have bled to death.

  • @Tubewings They say SLaughter lost a half gallon of blood during the match.

  • like in the old days..less talk about how it happened and more talk about how GREAt the match was and how the people love it! That's what's wrong with people today. Use your imagination and don't worry about the details, just enjoy GREAT WRESTLING from the good 'ol days! what a match!

  • Slaughter gushes in mid-air!

  • Please more MSG classic matches! Love it.

  • Before there ever was a "Muta Scale" for bladejobs, there should have been a "Slaughter Scale". This one rivals Muta's! And it was 1981!!!!

  • yes this is the one i remember watching on USA network, loving slaughter getting his ass kicked.

  • Slaughter really cut himself too deep. Classic bloodbath!

  • Love the old stuff....just classic
