They have to be that loud, or else, people from long distances that could be effected would not hear it. Say, if someone is across the house from the alarm sleeping with their door shut, they can still hear the alarm.
We have two of these alarms in my house and the alarms don't make one of the noises as yours does but hey man it makes the sound fire fire and the BEEP BEEP BEEP sound we have these alarms and another kind of alarm so

Those alarms also give off a lot of false alarms. So, if you ever hear it, check around to see if its a real fire.

Hey. If that alarm is on the ceiling, make sure its tightly fastened to the base plate before you test it. I had one fall right down.

It's actally tle law that says that fire alarms REQUIRED to be at leas 65 decibals at 10 fett. Therefore it has to be that loud.
