The critic forgot to mention that the film is both HEAVY and SILLY. A man cannot maintain a hard-on when he has just been smashed in the nuts with a log, never mind allow his wife to jerk him off so that blood shoots out. Then he passes-out, and she drills a hole in his leg and attaches a grinding-wheel to him - and he stays asleep?The bit where she snips her clit off is one of the most shocking things I have seen in a film. Awesome cinematography and depiction of madness.
Absolutely, but that doesn't mean he intentionally set out to follow any "horror" narrative. What makes it scary as shit, is the incongruent images of bizarre horror....
I Agree, This is one of the only truly scary movies to come out in the last few years. Now is it unintentional? I don't think so. I think the purpose of this movie was to try and put a finger on why Lars felt his depression.
