  • how is this a demo of a guitar?

  • Got mine 1980 new, most amazing guitar ever, best sustain ever... your right , has to be the fastest guitar ive had like Al said... Had a 1977 Flying V, was pretty close... great vid...

  • my japan Greco sounds better

    Gibson sucks!

  • @yaroslavorlov1 haha

  • I just love these absolute retards who make assenine comments.

  • Did this guitar have the Tim Shaw pickups in it? Sounds awesome!

  • WOW! HOW MUCH OF THAT NONSENSE CAN YOU TAKE BEFORE YOU WANT TO VOMIT? SHREDDING IS THE SAME SONG PLAYED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. ITS LIKE PLAYING A SONG OVER AND OVER AGAIN WHERE EVER NOTE IS A BEND. DOESN'T TAKE MUCH 2 AMUSE YOU OBVIOUSLY!

  • JUDGE NOT YE OF LITTLE PUNKEDNESS

  • @johnhguitar - YEAH - YEAH - I HEAR YA JOHNNY. NICE LESTER PAUL THOUGH!

  • I love the music u r playing :D \,,/

  • this guy still rapes at guitar :)

  • the guitar sounds good in your hands, but what if i want to play some heavier stuff like pantera or parkway drive? does it sound good up then?

  • Randy Rhoads used to play one of those.

  • @abrahamdrums123 Yeah, you can see the price on ebay, it depends on how old the guitar is but you cant get one for less than 2,500 bucks.

  • @abrahamdrums123 About 4.000 bucks.

  • Dude, is that silver hardware????????

  • @PBANDSNOW No stupid this guitar is about 31 years old, it is but very worn gold hardware.

  • @Macsk8ing Ya, im stupid for asking a vintage guitar question, because I totally know all about them. You know, I gotta 59 les paul back home so im some sort of aging guitar expert.

    Fuck off.

  • @PBANDSNOW Then if you're such an expert why do you ask . I mean it doesn't even look chrome, it looks gold but little worn, maybe you're expert aged eyes are starting to fail.

  • what amp do you use

  • The studio has a Roland Cube 30. What the hell? Why not?

  • @johnhguitar Dude........Chill.

  • haha i lol'd at the beggining when you started playing you jump up and then play but sweet guitar my step dad has a Flying V and it sounds better than a les paul in my opinion but well i've never heard a les paul in real life so i can't really say

  • i liked the music

  • sounds good to me nice video !

  • what scale was that from 0:39 - 0:43?

  • @TheAcousticSaint I'd guess a variation of a minor scale, tabs anywhere? sounds pretty nice

  • WTF, Not the kind of music you play on a Les Paul??? I guess it's ridiculous when John 5 rips it on a Tele.

  • Nice Custom, GREAT SHREDDING, and appropriate tone for the '80s vintage axe.

  • God, what kind of a tone is that?

  • Hi jon i just want to say your reviews are full of good info !! thanks mw

  • * ALLOWED

  • your very good at getting back at people who say mean things to you, btw all your reviews helped me alot thanks!

  • What's the name of this loosely named "tune" St. Vitus Dance? Another noise maker playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order.

  • why would you play a gibson custom through that amp :O

  • Why are you idiots making ignorant negative comments. If you don't like the sound then don't view the video, who cares what he is playing on! Nice guitar i have 3 customs myself!

  • @scottnme24: They do it because they are unable to attempt the type of fast shredding that the host displays here. Negative comments from "musicians" reveal only insecurities and ignorance.

  • 80's guitar 80's riffs = Awesome!

  • Guys. Both my uncle and grandfather are internationally famous record producers (my uncle GGGarth produced RHCP, Melvins, etc) and my grandfather (Jack Richardson, pioneer of the Canadian music industry) and they always say that Les Pauls and Strat’s and Tele’s are good for almost all recording, but if you want heavy metal, sludge metal, or simple indie, les paul custom. I hate metal, but you cant say that this doesnt totally work.

  • Great guitar+a horrible amp=horrible tone.

  • Does Ibanez strike a chord with you guys? could i hear one note clean?

  • Does Ibanez strike a chord with you guys?

  • man i would fcking have sex with this guitar

  • I like it. I have a 74 that looks just like it.

  • 3:22 Okay Jimmy

  • i dont care what people say, that was BAD ASS.

  • i had to stop this awfulness after 30 seconds

  • does it matter what u play?

slash plays proper heavy metal on his les paul and his sounds just as good as a proper metaL guitar give it A BREAK¬!

  • Ya ya, every has opinion and all that bull shit, but come on, on a les paul???

  • This is NOT the kind of music you should be playing on an LP. This is just as vulgar as having sex with an 80 year old woman.

  • I totally agree. This music I'm playing is shit on here. But, who are you to determine or say what anyone should or shouldn't be aloud to play on any guitar anywhere in the world?

  • What else do you do and say besides stupid things?

  • @johnhguitar Spot on John :)

  • Lol.

  • @johnhguitar lol he got burned...

  • Comment removed

  • @johnhguitar Yeah you go girl! Its people like samthehiggins that should be banned from new media. I have the "brother" of this guitar, a black custom. The mics have the same kind of "les paul punch" as yours. Really good guitar and an awesome video! keep it up greets from sweden.

  • @johnhguitar

i actually prefer to play metal on les paul customs

    they sound great playing metal

  • @johnhguitar Don't listen to that guy man, I play Doom Metal and I use a 2009 Gibson Les Paul Traditional. I love the sound that the Les Paul has. The main reason I use one however is because of how they feel. I think this is a good demo. Thank you,

  • @johnhguitar everybody should know that opinions are like assholes, every ones got one and they're usually full of shit

  • @johnhguitar in my opinion Gibson LP Custom is the guitar that you can play anything with...so just tell the neighboors to move out once you get one in your hands...

  • @samthehiggins actually, i dont agree with your opinion, so its not everyones opinion

  • @samthehiggins i disagree, a les paul is versatile, i play blues, rock and even some metal on mine and it does it all amazingly well and I think the stuff he is playing isnt bad, he is a decent player and you can hear the great tone of the lp custom

  • @samthehiggins I don't agree with you, a lp is very versatile, i play blues, indie, rock and metal on mine and it does it all really well and its only an epi les paul (i'd love a gibson) but i have to admit it tackles all your classic rock - hard rock the best by far and his playing isn't bad, would have been nice to have heard more 80s hard rock though but oh well, its still ok

  • @samthehiggins ur a dick

  • @samthehiggins your very wrong

  • @samthehiggins You're an idiot. A guitar is a guitar as far as what you want to play on it.

  • @samthehiggins lmao how do YOU know what everyones opinion is??

  • @samthehiggins Dude, I play EVERYTHING on my LP. From blues to heavy metal. And so do several other people. Other people may think like you, but not everyone does. Chill.

  • @samthehiggins Randy fucking Rhoads played one of these...end of discussion.

  • @samthehiggins Its not everyone opinion buddy. I play musi like this on one and alot of my friends do aswell, Get you facts right you stupid fag.

  • @samthehiggins the intro reminds me of randy rhoads... who used this guitar.... let the man decide his own style.

  • @samthehiggins Hahahaha totally agree!

  • @samthehiggins Randy Rhoads kicks ass with a LP!

You can pretty much do anything with a Les Paul!

  • @GUlTARlST You sure as fuck can, mate! Randy was a legend and, well, still is.

  • @dragonclaw13 Randy Rhoads is my favourite guitarist... He's so influential.

  • @samthehiggins Ever heard of Metallica?

  • @samthehiggins u can play ANY type of music on ANY type of guitar!!!!!!!! I could play metal on a tele and blues on a dean. all that matters is your skills

  • @samthehiggins

    Remember, it's a 1980's les paul...

  • @samthehiggins Uh huh. Who are you, exactly?

  • D'you know...??? I think I've got this now!!!

  • why don't you use a really nice tube amp when you demo things instead of a solid state amp

  • Gibson Les Paul + Marshall Stack = Overprcied Rig ($8,000.00)

Gibson Les Paul + Roland Cube 30 = Atleast You Got Your Money's Worth Out Of The Roland Cube 30!!!

  • like we can afford one

  • as far as i know for LP customs, only black beauty models have all mahogany custom models have maple top on them

  • problem w/ custom is the all mahogany body. sounds more nasly and mid range like and SG. need the maple top of a standard to get the crisp sustain

  • I know lp customs sound great.. but i just want to turn the sound off in this vid.

  • OK Everyone has a right to an opinion but to help stir up the dust tell us why you don't like the vid. Maybe you're afraid someone might improve from your critique?

  • @johnhguitar I just told you why i don't like the vid. The audio ain't good. Read my first comment again...

  • @MrAviiC your right, sounds crap (on the video anyway)

  • เก่งโครต

  • Yes you are correct re the Studio... I've only seen the faded ones! However, the Customs generally do have maple caps except some very early ones and a couple of other exceptions. Yes, they have mahogany bodies - sometimes two-piece, sometime one-piece... no idea why this is. My own Les Pauls are 3- piece i.e. a sandwich of two parts mahogany with a maple cap. Both with volutes. One with a mahogany neck and one with a maple neck.

  • played one of these in the store yesterday, the natural tone sounded great, way better than my jackson, but i need the floyd rose, im torn... i cant decide if i should save up for one of these or not

  • To my knowledge, all LP Customs have a maple top. I'm not aware that this has ever changed. The cheaper model like "The Studio" don't have the maple cap.

The neck on my 70s Cherry sunburst Les Paul Custom was made from 3- piece maple (all quarter-sawn) and was extremely heavy!!

  • I've seen the Customs with a solid mahogany top.

  • @MusicManxxxxx hello, You are a bit confused.... the Studios have a maple cap Except the FADED ones. and all customs have ALL mahogany bodies. except some old customs. theres a fireburst model that is similar to a regular cherry sunburst but the plasting rings and knobs are black. it has a maple cap and its flamed as well. Firebursts today dont have that i think

  • @MusicManxxxxx les paul studio have a maple top-check website.only the faded and studio mahagony dont have one.

  • @MusicManxxxxx ya but only some of the new studios don't have maple caps those are the all mahogany ones. but the main studio has a maple cap.

  • performance-wise, What do you think about The ESP guitars and basses.

  • @6090Ben ESPs are great man. they are shred machines with lightning fast neck, great pickups (most of them have EMGs). if you like the heavy stuff then you can't go wrong with the ESP LTD.

  • @toyakz312 thanks dude, now i want to own a ESP guitar.

  • @6090Ben me too dude. i want to own an ESP eclipse or the LTD EC-1000. those are beast guitars.

  • @toyakz312 I'm kind of stuck picking between the ESP LTD EC-256 or the ESP LTD EC-401.

  • @6090Ben i would go for the EC-401 'cause of the EMGs.

  • nice playing

  • A Question. Are you sure of the year of this guitar? I was under the impression that all les paul customs after 1969 had a volute on the back of the peghead. I have a 74 with the volute and clearly there is not one on your guitar. I have read a lot about dating these so I am curious to know if this is an exception. Any info you can give me would be appreciated.

  • @kstaruk I have an 85 les paul custom, that I bought new in 1985, so I know it's an 85, and it has no volute.

  • Man, The same riff for minutes!

  • whats up with the window in the bottom right????Dude and thts a pick ur using :D

  • John, what o you think about chambered Les Pauls?

  • I don't like one enough to buy it. I'd rather go with a 335, 135, or any F-hole guitar for that purpose.

  • are you using a pick or just your thumb?

  • @SiKxBlAzEr He's using a pick

  • Just my thumb....

  • @SiKxBlAzEr he's using a pick

  • @96JaaFoX69 nah brah he told me thumb check out the user comments

  • @SiKxBlAzEr hes using a pick, pay attention, I dont care what he said, hes messing with you, if you pay attention you see him holding the pick, just watch his hand

  • @96JaaFoX69 o shit my bad haha

  • why is it so expensive...i mean .. its a gibson jajaja but i don't get it :(

  • My dream guitar!

  • @johnguitar Seems as though you're a SoCal native. I was looking through your links for the shop you work for/with to setup guitars and couldn't find anything. I'd like to know the name/address of the shop or a link if it's in SoCal. Thanks in advance.

  • I'm at THE GUITAR SHOPPE in Laguna Beach, Ca. Thanks

  • I have the black version of this guitar, but I have a Roland Micro Cube lol.

  • it only sounds cool cuz you're picking really quick.. everyone can do that

  • skills dude, serious skills....

  • how long have u been playin guitar cuz ur well good? nhav you reviewed a les paul studio ?

  • I think the "black beauty" had three hbs?

  • Thanks!

  • Gotta Les Paul Deluxe made july 13th 1978. Gonna put a set of Lollal pickups in it soon. Love it. Now I gotta get me a Custom model for the full sized pickups. Never say ya can't play one thing or another on a Les Paul. They can do it all. Easy to play and if ya don't mind the weight, they do the job.

  • no no no the les paul is a blues guitar don't waste it's beautiful bluesy tone on shredding

  • do you have any effects on that guitar or is it just the guitar and amp?

  • Just the Cube 30 amp.

  • @johnhguitar: How do You get that "echoing" sound?

  • @johnhguitar: How do You get that "echo"

  • It's built in to the Cube 30.....

  • These antique white oes are so much better looking than the black/ebony ones!! I have ta same colour custom classic model n i think its way better looking than the black.. and i also had a chance to buy blak if i wanted to.. shud be lik WHITE BEAUTY or sumthing

  • call me a weirdo but les pauls..... not my cup of tea but i can see the appeal.

  • put ur pick down and tap the sucker

  • gooddddddddd

  • Nice Lookin' Guitar! :D

  • $4000 for a piece of wood with strings and electronics? I want one but not if I have to pay. Hopefully my dad will get me one for my b-day.

  • dude, oh so defensive, just wanted to hear it clean and maybe some other players might enjoy the natural tone that is buried under all that metal......wait I know metal rules................LOL

  • @shredheadbob a solid mohogany body tends to have a darker/ warmer tone adding a maple top brightens the sound

  • dude, I played that stuff when I was 15. Can you play some clean blues on it??

  • Not now, it's in the past. We already have recorded this video segment and I'm not going to change it or make a new one just for you dude.

  • @johnhguitar Did you teach yourself or do you like, practice scales and arprggios all the time?

  • @themotocrossman83 Some good teachers and lots of gigs and practice.....

  • @johnhguitar if this hero was playing this at 15, he wouldn't be leaving comments on your youtube review I'll give you the tip, haha some people are jokers, You think we believe your bullshit bossmxr1?

  • @johnhguitar i personally would agree with boss, i think it's terrible waste of tone on a les paul if your just gonna shred on it

  • @bossmxr1 besides, it's not hard to find a blues sample of this guitar. it's super known and there are loads of vids of it here.

  • i want it!

  • this guitar has a maple cap (in the 50s they were solid mahogany)

  • @n2space4u good or bad?

  • Hello there

I would like to say that the audio quality of you video is really good for review, there is no compression and I can really hear what you are doing, which is important when I want to hear a review. What setup do you use? camera or room mic? Anyway, I am going to buy one of these and your review conviced me that any limitations I might discover in it is merely my own fingers....

But I'd like to hear someone do a screaming note on the 4th G fret on it, curious as wether it can.

  • We attach a Rone stereo video mic to an older model Panasonic GS500 videocam. The camera has an audio control that tells you if you're maxing out the sound, so if that happens I adjust the level downward.

Then if the total volume is too low for YouTube, I increase the volume in the video editing software.

I didn't do this in the earlier videos so they may be of lower quality.

    -jc

  • @johnhguitar Thanks for that reply mister, you're a better man than I.

I bought the guitar as I said, and its awesome. Some of my friends are threatening to kill me to get to it, but I like the attention he he.

The only nag is that the bridge pickup doesnt have any thump, its so weedy, if I did that riff you did at about 2:55 it'd be much thinner. So I am really curios to find out whats going on,

  • @merqury5 the neck pickup is nice fat and round as it should be. Maybe its just a soldering fault or a broken capacitor, I dont know, but I dont think the pickups itself could be broken since its basically just a coil.

Did you notice by the way that If you look at the paint on the top in bright light you can se the grain through it?

  • is it weird if that guitar just gave me a *****?

  • Not a very good review of a guitar. Didn't even demonstrate the clean tones, nor mention the pickup types etc...

  • u need 20x better amp to test this guitar ;))

  • not all people in the world got rich ass perants who buy them marshall walls en floor mats of floor compressors dude so be real :)

  • @Synysterswrath yeah but look at all of the guitars behind him lol

  • @Synysterswrath

Who said anything about parents*? I am not a kid, but I have seen kids who just saved up and worked to get nice gear, like I did when I was younger

    Where there's a will, there's a way, my friend.

What you don't get is that, if you are getting a $4k guitar, and you don't have a better amp than that, then you are just stupid. You can get a GREAT guitar and amp for $3k.

If he has all those Gibsons and only that amp to use, that just means he spent his money very unwisely

  • We used the Roland 30 amp to even the playing field among the different guitars. I know that sounds strange but this whole thing is more about an opinion than a performance. I didn't do this to impress people with my sound or my playind per say.

It's about getting people to share what they know about these products once they've heard the bullshit that comes out of my mouth.

  • @johnhguitar

    That makes somewhat sense.

It's just to ME, the SOUND of the guitar is the MOST important thing in a review, which is what's stated this is.

Assuming someone looking at reviews is interested in buying one, especially people who don't have the option of trying before buying:

Just like buying a performance car, if you want to feel the car drive as it is made to when testing it, you don't put low grade fuel in it. You give it what it's made to run on, projecting it's potential

  • @johnhguitar

Sorry, I couldn't fit everything in one reply.

Continuing, I am not bashing this video. It just was something that caught my eye and I commented on. (The expensive guitar and cheap amp)

When I said "if you are getting a $4k guitar and don't have a better amp than that, then you are just stupid", I wasn't referring to you.

I was speaking in the sense of someone saying that they can't afford a nice amp because their parents aren't rich, yet they would have a $4k guitar...

  • @johnhguitar

Apparently two wasn't enough either, ha.

Anyway, speaking of your playing, which you said wasn't the point; you have great chops and from other videos seem to play very well.

My hat goes off to you.

I, myself though, am more of a creamy, dimed mid's, low gain, low presence type of guy, with some crunchy treble dirt every once in a while ;)

  • Thanks Jordan. These vids are barf from a professional point of view. I idea is to recreate someone in a music shop picking up the instrument maybe for the first time and blowing out an opinion as basic and as unbiased as possible. My EPI review however wasn't that way. Thanks for your interest and keep up with your music.
