I love this movie to DEATH and I'm buying the 10th anniversary edition tomorrow :D I do not own anything of "Donnie Darko" (yes, I am ashamed of that), so it's perfect.

The thing that strikes me the most in this movie is the way positive things are seemed to be made negative and negative things are seemed to be made positive; at the end he does the most negative thing possible for the most positive outcome.
l love this movie. lt is flat out amazing and such as a major mind fuck. Jake is amazing in this. "l think about girls a lot...." l was just rewatching this on Friday.
at first when i watched it, i was in middle school, and i was like "wtf"
now after watching the movie again, i felt so stupid. i missed the brilliance of this movie! damn, this is seriously one of the best movies ever made, but its still mind numbing to watch at the same time.
@enginetai frank is i time traveler, a ghost. he want it donnie to know that he killed his girlfriend, in order to avoid the death of her donnie had ti die. the turbine also travel to time at the same time that frank so maybe he cause it. the old lady also was waitnig the day 30 so the univers just mixed in that time and donnie hapened to be afected by that, he sacrifies, is the only way to change time, because of him she follows the same pat that donnie that leads her to her death
@enginetai 2 dimensions... in ONE, Donnie is killed and his girlfriend lives, in dimension TWO, Donnie lives and sees his girlfriend get shot. The plane crash is the only difference between these two dimensions. The plane engine falls into a wormhole (portal between dimensions) and kills Donnie. This event is what changes Donnie's and his girlfriend's fate. So in one dimension, Donnie is living and in another, he is hit by a jumbo jet turbine. Message me if you're still confused...
I understand the 2 dimension's and that the engine coming from another dimension (the future actually).
But why the hell is ''dead frank'' telling him stuff? couse at that time ''Frank'' isnt dead in both dimensions. So actually donnie see's dead frank in a 3th dimension? or what the... the movie is mindfckin me.
@Pieterpost89 I believe "Frank" is there to simply make the movie more interesting and make it more of a horror film. I'm not sure he really has anything to do with the theory of time travel itself, but rather a special twist to make Donnie's mindset seem a bit darker...

If you watch that part, Donnie says that said occurrences in time travel will appear in the user's dream (including frank's dream). So he touches his eye because he had a dream about Donnie shooting and killing him. He does "know something" but only that what happened was dream, and not reality. This movie is also an example of "deja vu" because everyone dreamed about what happened in the future & sad because he died
Donnie Darko isn't well explained cause of the director had to cut the Movie for the cinema version. That made it to something like an art-movie. You could also watch the directors cut, but the movie isn't half as good as the cutted version.
I did not get the ending. i thought it was a good movie but just near the end it lost me. So a portal through time opens as according to a prophecy and in this alternate universe the main character gets killed by a jet engine? How does the bunny play any role in the time traveling plot? Good movie but if there was some sort of clarity at the end I think it would have been better.
i don't think this trailer does a good job capturing the awesomeness of this movie, then again i don't think any trailer no matter how it was made could do the movie justice because of how open ended the movie is

This is by far one of the best films i have ever seen. It had me glued to my computer the entire time and i thought the ending was perfect. Then it just gets better because you start to glue the pieces together, even though they are very confusing. Just think about the theme of redemption to help you out, i dont want to give any specifics away for when u c it. I say when u c it because every1 should see this epic movie

I picked up S.Darko from blockbuster last night. And my expectations were elevated. The acting was okay, the fault with the movie lies solely with the director and the loss of a coherent story line. They lifted 'elements' from the original. The should have also come up with a decent story and plot.
When It comes to watching this film, it sends shivers down my spine, think about it, "time travel" is it real?, or just a load of rubbish?, well all these (FILMS) are based on time travel, how do we know its all fake, we have no proof?

Nah the pages of the philosophy of time travel are shown in the directors cut of Donnie Darko, and I believe the special features of the original movie.
The film is great, but if you think it over a while you realize that it's plot stem is completely not logical. I'm not going to spoil so I'll end my comment here, but after watching it, rethink the main theme of DD people :)
I don't agree with you there. I watched the movie quiet a few times, and read both the books mentioned in the movie. I think it makes sense. A little flawed, but way deeper than I think most people would think the first time they meditate on it. It takes a little reading to understand. Look up The Philosophy of Time Travel by Roberta Sparrow. It makes things connect. Of course some things are very fictional, but the idea of a tangent universe may not be so off...
Well that's completely random. But i saw that movie, didn't read the book.. They showed it to us in 6th grade, I forget the reason though. I smiled when I saw it though, It was amusing to see it. No offense to anyone when I say this, But donnie darko seems to be a movie for intellgent people. Most people I know who are in lower classes that have seen the movie find it boring, but people in higher classes, like myself, appreciate the movie more.
I agree with you. A lot of people I know haven't even heard of Donnie Darko. I love how it makes you think differently, and I can also relate to Donnie, sort of. You should see S. Darko. I expected it to be awful, but it was actually pretty good considering. It was really true to the Philosophy of Time Travel surprisingly. I liked all the Donnie Darko references in it, too.
Everything moves along a set path, if donnie doesnt die, then it is a tangent universe that will collapse upon itself. frank sets donnie up so that almost everyone he cares for will die and by killing gretchan, donnie will kill frank allowing frank to guide donnie throughout the movie, roberta sparrow helps him realize and get over the fact that everything dies alone, so that donnie will make the right choice by staying in bed when the time comes for him to die.
Personally I think this trailer is misleading, makes it look more like a random psycho slasher flick than the thought-provoking masterpiece of art that it actually is.
BEST. FILM. EVER! i swear, Donnie speaks to me so much, and i can't get that song out of my head ("Mad World"). This movie has made me cry, and could possibly be the best movie of all time, because it makes you think...
This film is faultless. One of my all time favorites. Makes me weep like a loon. Sooooo good sooooooo funny soooooooooooo darko.
If the remake rumour is true then I've gotta go swear and kick a can. Doh! You couldn't create the magic again with any other cast, soundtrack, or flavour.

When It comes to watching this film, it sends shivers down my spine, think about it, "time travel" is it real?, or just a load of rubbish?, well all these (FILMS) are based on time travel, how do we know its all fake, we have no proof?

How can even someone compare crappy shit as is S.Darko with this. Its a shame that someone allowed to spoil name of such a great movie with some kinda Sci-fi shit with meteorites. This dirty stain will never be removed and always these two absolutely different movies will be forever compared. Im fed up with this.
Donnie Darko - Perfect movie, perfect soundtrack and so acting. Definitely in my top10 list.

The film is great, but if you think it over a while you realize that it's plot stem is completely not logical. I'm not going to spoil so I'll end my comment here, but after watching it, rethink the main theme of DD people :)

I don't agree with you there. I watched the movie quiet a few times, and read both the books mentioned in the movie. I think it makes sense. A little flawed, but way deeper than I think most people would think the first time they meditate on it. It takes a little reading to understand. Look up The Philosophy of Time Travel by Roberta Sparrow. It makes things connect. Of course some things are very fictional, but the idea of a tangent universe may not be so off...

Well that's completely random. But i saw that movie, didn't read the book.. They showed it to us in 6th grade, I forget the reason though. I smiled when I saw it though, It was amusing to see it. No offense to anyone when I say this, But donnie darko seems to be a movie for intellgent people. Most people I know who are in lower classes that have seen the movie find it boring, but people in higher classes, like myself, appreciate the movie more.

I agree with you. A lot of people I know haven't even heard of Donnie Darko. I love how it makes you think differently, and I can also relate to Donnie, sort of. You should see S. Darko. I expected it to be awful, but it was actually pretty good considering. It was really true to the Philosophy of Time Travel surprisingly. I liked all the Donnie Darko references in it, too.

Everything moves along a set path, if donnie doesnt die, then it is a tangent universe that will collapse upon itself. frank sets donnie up so that almost everyone he cares for will die and by killing gretchan, donnie will kill frank allowing frank to guide donnie throughout the movie, roberta sparrow helps him realize and get over the fact that everything dies alone, so that donnie will make the right choice by staying in bed when the time comes for him to die.
