@365caliboy Plus I’ve found that the males do not make as good of pets as the females. They bite a lot more & seem to get the hormone thing going & will turn into a real crab.
If you didn’t know, the only way to tell if you have a male or female is by the tail feathers. The males feathers are solid, where the females have stripes from birth on. If the bird is very pale or very yellow you might have to hold them up to a light to see if there is a stripe.
Its best to hand feed them when they are about eight days old. This would involve removing them from the parents permanently. Takes a couple weeks to completly ween them...
can someone tell me why my baby cockateil loves the back off her neck rubbed she is the first one i have had. she lets me handle her no problem but no one else can she just hops back to me.she would let almost anybody rub her neck she puts her beak down and almost goes to sleep please tell me why?
@365caliboy im no expert but a few tips dont feed the bird up to 6hours prior to your training so they are hungry, so really basic movements such as moving ur hand near him if he screeches just leave ur hand there and he will stop eventually once he does say good bird and give him a treat...do this until u can eventually pat him ...the point of him being really hungry is that he wants that food in ur hand and to get it he will learn that he has to listen to you! hope i helped
@365caliboy He's young enough that training should be fairly easy, seems the older they get they can become stubborn. My Blue and Gold is kind of like that, he has his own attitude issues that I deal with though lol
@365caliboy How old is he? One of the ways I was able to teach mine to whistle and be more playful was to take him to another room where there are no distractions (tv, music, people, pets, etc) and work with him..it seemed to focus his attention.
i have some tiels but they dont have any feathers yet just that yellow fuzz and its 14 days old...do you know why?
plz i need help...im guessing that the father or mother is taking them off but idk yet...and one of them their head is like sort of balled it has the yellow fuzz but noting else
@Tony20v Usually the eyes open around 10 days, if they haven't opened within the next few days you may want to contact a vet for advise..the baby could be malnourished.
@kevphx28 hello i have already uploaded a video but i really dont know if you can see their eyes really well but i want you to take a quick look at how they look right now and maybe you could give me more advise
i have a problem with my cockatiels....they both mated but the mom doesnt like to be in the nest box and the dad tried to force her to get in and take care of it..... does this mean that she knows that the egg isnt fertile?
@20vTony1 Is this the first clutch of eggs? The female could be confused and doesn't know what to do. How old is she? My cockatiels had about 6 clutches and with my experience, they will sit on the eggs even if the egg is not fertile.
@kevphx28 yes it is for her thoe.....i had her for almost 2 years since she was born......well its her first time because we had her with a different one but he didnt want to mate with her and then he flew away when my dad changed his food.....so we put her back into the fathers cage which he was alone.....and then he ended up mating with her....he is very protective when his mate is pregnant or has eggs already......
@kevphx28 its 20vtony1 (accound deletd) this 1 is new....
so yea its her first clutch and she only had 2 eggs umm....she is about 2 years old...well i am going 2 see this weekend because i kept track of the eggs being there and they are going to hatch soon
omg lol i had 2 cockatiels named mango and tango! but now i have 3 cockatiels that just layed 4 eggs! does anyone have any advice how to sell them or find them a good home?
my cockatiels are peeking at each other when they both get to close and i thought they were a pair are the both females or males plz respond i will sub and comment an rate? And there bothe like 5 months old what is wrong?
I have one about a couple years old, he's desperate for a mate too. The bad news is when I got him he was about a month old or 2 and one of his wings were cut off too deep so now he'll never fly again.
Ha, now that's true but actually I wasn't comparing the wings to the mating abilities they were just two separate statements, I just hope that he can fly soon, but he always tries to fly to the room and ends up hitting his wing on impact. He hasn't moved that wing in years.
Well unfortunately around where I live there isn't a vet for many miles and I have no transportation. I feel terrible, & feel like it is neglection but seeing as the bird does not seem to show any signs of pain, (looks perfectly normal) it seems like there's nothing I can do but feed it certain foods that have nutrients for him.
Birds have an incredibly high tolerance for pain. Showing pain, injury or illness in the wild means their flock will abandon them.
If you found a vet, they probably wouldn't know what to do with him anyway. Country vets deal mostly with farm animals, and city vets mostly deal with cats and dogs. Unless you could find a bird specialist, I doubt they could do him any good. I reckon you are doing the best you can by this bird, and the fact that he has reproduced, has to stand for something.
Well, I hope he will heal soon. If I'm not mistaken he probably has 9 to ten more years to live out the rest of his life-span, & I'd like to help him live as long as possible. I'll search through the internet for a bird specialist and contact them ASAP.
It was an amazing experience being able to watch and monitor the entire process from egg laying to feeding and taking care of the babies! I've had the parents since they were both about 4 months old..instinct takes over and they know exactly what to do.
@kevphx28 lost my daddy bird the other day and baby bird before that , daddy bird did a real good job whith the chick when it came , he looked after baby bird mostly through day and mummy bird did the night shift , mommy birds still here , dont know if i should send to friends avary or keep her here , her and daddy bird were inseprable , so abit worried about her , but dont want her stressing any more , maybe she will come more tame now , shes the wild 1 :)
how can u tell which 1 is a male and the other 1 is a female? cuz ima buy 2 birds and i want them to have babies and i dont wanna buy 2 of the same gender
@kevphx28 How did you know which one is female and which one male before laying eggs, because I have a cockatiel that looks somewhat like yours and I want to buy him/her a pare and dunno what it should be, a female or a male..any advices..?
@amberhateyou Easiest way is to ask a breeder. I got my two girl cockatiels from breeders, they were hand reared. My male bird I bought from the market and tamed him myself. He was't at all difficult. Less than 10 days & he was really tame & so soft & cuddly!!
im pretty stupid but im also gonna be a first time baby cockatiel owner their gonna be born soon but anyway heres the question (r the babies gonna be born with their eyes open or r they like kittens and wait weeks till they open) plese respone lol

I kept a dish of the regular food they eat..seed mix and pellet crubles in the cage and also a dish of millet. The parents will consume much more food once the eggs hatch..they now have all those extra mouths to feed. I also found that a high grain bread mixed in with the food is a good treat for the parents..and it has nutrients to pass along to the chicks. Tango(M) would scream bloody murder if he didn't get his bread with his food. :) Is this the first clutch for the parents?
i had a brain fart and put quaker eggs with my tiels so that tiny box will have a mix of three quakers and how evermany she layed total then my quaker layed five more eggs and she sits on them on the bottom of cage won't get in box at all either way i will have tiels and quaker babies soon.
ok finally fixing to have babies starting around june 28th what do i give quaker parents and tiels so they can feed baby's?getting nervous now may hatch 11 or more eggs if all hatch.tiels and quakers hatch days apart but hoping most will hatch.thanks
haha is that the daddy watching them.he,s like when am i gonna get my dinner :)
