  • Although judo is a grappling art, I've seen judo guys in MMA throw some really good right handers in a cage. I recall in Extreme Fighting, Bart Vale got punched out by a Japanese judo fighter. Russian judoka Maxim Tarasov in Absolute Fighting can throw a punch as well.

  • how many times does this guy need to tap geesh

  • Wow that looked like aikido! Cool move

  • isnt there another name to this move ? show on human weapon

  • Wow.......

  • I'd like to get this. Does anyone know the name of it?

  • @mp95758 Its Mike Swain "Complete Judo" DVD set. You can do a search on Google and find it, or go to Amazon or eBay

  • @dm40 Lol I ordered this on eBay and it was a copy and didn't work

  • Isso até pode ser usado no jiu jutsu, mas pro judo isso é falso ataque.

  • I'm pretty sure he does yoko tomoe nage. :)

  • nice 1

  • WOW! Tomoe Nage if you get it. Arm bar if you don't.

A deadly combination for a tall player with long legs. (Like me!)

  • nice

  • Thats nice!!!

  • ok better if u gonna do yoko tomoenage

  • omg o.o

  • good-by ,blue...

  • Trop trop bien !! Serieusement c'est super cool sa ; )

  • thats fucken sick

  • lower hips to apply pressure

  • Beautifully executed, wow

  • Fréderique Demontfaucon of France is good at this.

  • My favorite throw and tehnique. I tried to pull this off before but I messed up trying to get the juji gatame so I just completed the throw. Damn, this video makes it look so easy.

  • thats superb

looks nice when doing and it dont seem neccesary to use much force

    its pure technique

  • That's awesome, it's like a flying armbar without the risk of smashing your head on the ground.

  • there is an osoto gari set up for juji gatame as well that works nice. prob easier to preform than this one. and even some what looks like a flying arm bar, but is just a sit down into it

  • this is such a nice series of videos a must have.

jiu jitsu is good judo is good, but judo is broken up into different styles that people tend to just look at one and generalize the whole art. I like both, they each have they're strengths, how ever I do favor judo more simply for the fact it focuses on how to get the ground and work on the ground(ne waza)

oppose to jiu jitsu where the take downs are some what limited, but ground work is a lil more elaborate

  • Comment removed

  • The problem is that a lot of judo clubs hate ground grappling and focus almost exclusively on throws. I don't care so much for the Newaza rules in Judo competition neither. It's mostly about turtling until the referee stands you up.

  • Thanks for this video !

  • nice video

    thanks

  • " Budo Masters: Judo Mifune" please search by this key word.

  • No, it only mildly resembles modern Olypic judo. And since I've seen old judo guys doing the De La Riva guard, sweeps from the guard, the omoplata, even the gogoplata, what exactly do you think is "new?" And I don't use wikipedia but since you mentioned I suspect you do.

  • I'm a dan grade Judo ...and submit 90% of bjj blue belts i meet.....I'd say the two arts are similar....it's just that judo is drive by TV and they don't seem to understand newaza....so the IJF have decided to dilute the groundwork aspect...........sad.........

  • ToTOdeisel,

I don't think your fist comment was negative, but I was not sure, so I wanted to clarify what I thought of BJJ.. BJJ is awesome and I practice it with a group in the town I work in as well as train in Inosanto lineage JKD.

  • And upon further reading I learned of something called Kosen judo which was a substyle created by Jigoro Kano for teaching the high school students in japan. Because of the high percentage for injury during throws, he felt it was safer to teach NeWaza to them. The prevailing opinion in the article I read was that what Maeda taught Carlos Gracie, was NeWaza/Kosen form of Judo.

  • @dm40 you wrong! Sensei Maeda, was Judo Kodokan, Maeda teach Carlos Gracie judo Kodokan. by the way That you are calling Kosen Judo, never left Japan.

Before Kosen Judo was call it Fusen Ryu. better know your home works,

Why did Helio Gracie Lost against Kimura? Helio could not pass or submitted Sensei Kimura! I guess Helio Gracie did have no knowledge about Newaza Ground fighting.

  • @Samboussr Helio knew a lot of newaza because he was (at the time) a black belt in Judo & also registered in Kodokan. Kimura was just too good for Helio that's all... Kimura was the best grappler in the world... Helio had no chance! Gracies took the original Judo before 1925 and simply stayed with it just like Kosen Judokas... yes, the art (BJJ) has evolved since 1925 and a few new sweeps, guard have been invented, but in general ... 99% is still Judo.

  • @pcjudosambo Spot on bro, gd to see someone knows their history.

  • @pcjudosambo It's not even 99% judo, they have different key ideas, BJJ is still currently evolving while judo is not, there are constantly new submissions that are being added into BJJ. The sport of judo has really stuffed up the whole art by giving so little time with newaza in competition and no1 can see it. And how is Kimura too good for Helio? Kimura was the much bigger man. When it comes to submissions, jiu jitsu artists rule that world. Just look at ADCC how many Judoka's win that?

  • @f9hunter ADCC is run by BJJ guys and it uses very similar IBJJF scoring system, thus it favors a guy with Jiu-Jitsu background. That's why you do not see many Judokas or Sambo players in ADCC The idea is the same in both Judo & BJJ ... to control the opponent via takedowns, holds and submission moves. The setups are different. Judo uses less setups due to time in newaza while BJJ guys use: position before submission setup. Judo has evolved ... read next post...

  • @pcjudosambo ... continuing earlier post ... Judo has evolved in standing as well. Aside from techniques that require grabbing the legs, other takedown moves have improved 10-fold while BJJ's stand up game is pre-1925 or even worse. In Newaza, Judo has many techniques that even excel BJJ (such as kase-gatame) and setups, transitions & submissions from such move. Reverse sankaku jime (triangle choke) which you see in Judo all the time yet very rarely in BJJ & lets not make excuses for Helio.

  • @pcjudosambo i rarely see submissions in Judo period let alone a reverse triangle, and i am not talking about a newaza competition im talking about Olmypics or any other high level international games. BJJs realise that takedowns from the clinch don't really work if it is no-gi, that is why they no longer focus on the throws but rather double legs/single legs. Royce Gracie won the first UFC, no gloves, OPEN WEIGHT and tapped them all out. I didn't see a judoka win that tournament.

  • @f9hunter Kid, are you a judoka? Do you attend Judo competitions at local, city, state, national and International level? Sounds like no, but I do. I attend Judo, Sambo & BJJ competitions on a monthly basis (dozens a year). What are you talking about that you "rarely" see submissions in Judo. Based off IJF (main ruling body of Judo) there are an avg of 35% - 40% submissions per event. Takedowns don't work from clinch if there's no gi?? Read next post about No Gi Takedowns....

  • @f9hunter ... about No gi takedowns ... 90% of Freestyle & 100% of Greco takedowns are utilized in Judo and transition from Gi to No Gi is smooth and takes a few months to adapt (from personal experience). There are hundreds of MMA fighters that utilize Judo throws in MMA.

It seems you have 0 martial arts experience, so here, enjoy some education

Video of Judo & Wrestling utilized in MMA (No gi):

    watch?v=FOV3qVIEFng&feature=feedwll

Video of Judo submissions at high level.

    watch?v=4u41omoNO4U

  • @pcjudosambo say what ever you want man, your name is judosambo, your obviously biased, i practice judo so i know what the sport offers and what it lacks. and it is no secret that judo lacks newaza and focuses too much on throws. How many guys do you see shoot in for double legs??? hundreds of mma fighters use judo throws? like whom? how often? im talking without a gi. if judo was that effective people would be learning judo not wrestling.

  • @pcjudosambo that was a highlight reel dude.

  • @f9hunter Wow man, read the IJF web site or visit a few dozen high level Judo competitions.

Go train at an MMA school for a few months and ask them if they "use" no Gi Judo takedowns.

  • @pcjudosambo of course they USE judo throws in the clinch what it is more easy to negate and there is a risk of getting your back taken, in which judo does not really care because they would rather give up their back then get pinned. All i am saying that Judo imo is not the best option when it comes to grappling when it comes to mma, in a self defence situation sure it would probably work if the guy is wearing a trench coat or a jacket.

  • @f9hunter Look up Judo in MMA you are way off on this one ! the most current show of Judo in MMA Jim Hettes dominates over Nam Phan with sold Judo throws in UFC 141 and Stun Gun Kim also a good Show of Judo in 141 and a win over Sean pierson so Judo does work in MMA and Judo provides a sold base for MMA and is untapped when it comes to how many throws can be used in MMA this hand full of throws people call out on You tube is BS so far people have just seen the tip of Judo In MMA .

  • @pcjudosambo again i am not hating on judo, i have trained in around 2 years in judo and only say 7months in bjj, i am just calling as i see it. Would love to get my hands on Sambo but dont think here in australia they offer Sambo as they do in other arts.

  • @f9hunter Your trainer is probably a newer judoka with little ne-waza experience because my Judo trainer practices 50 up and 50 down thus we see the true beauty of Judo and our judokas always compete and win in BJJ competitions (see my videos).

In terms of Sambo, there is an Australian Sambo Federation, look it up.

  • @Samboussr Fusen Ryu is jujitsu, no live sparring its not even a ground specializing art, they just used that tactic to defeat the Judokas. Maeda left Japan before the rule change limiting the amount of time grappling on the floor and that u needed a throw to start the ground work. Kosen Judo is Judo under the original rules where u could pull guard and had no limit to time spent on the ground also some techniques no illegal in Kodokan Judo r still legal in Kosen Judo.

  • @dm40 Kosen Judo is Newaza which was added to the Kodokan system by Tabane in the late 19th century after excepting a challenge by Jigor Kano who's Kodokan suffered its 1st defeated at the hands of Tabane and his style of Fusen Jiu Jitsu. After the lose, Tabane was invited by Kano to teach at the Kodokan .In 1925 Newza was limited thanks to the rule change by Kano which limited the time a Judoka can spend grappling but some Kosen Varsities in Japan still train the style now known as Kosen Judo.

  • @dm40 Kano was against Newaza thats why he had the rule change in 1925. It had nothing to do with the lethality of the throws. During the beginning of the 20th century Judokas were starting training more Newaza and not traditional Kodokan Judo because of the effectiveness of the art which Kano didn't care for.

  • totodeisel, I am wondering how that comment was meant, but just for the record, I train BJJ, not Judo, but after doing some research, I learned that Maeda was actually a Judoka who was exceptionally strong in NeWaza. continued...

  • In 1897, Mitsuyo Maeda started studying at the Kosen-Ryu Judo Dojo and became a member of Kodokan Judo. Against Kodokan Judo rules, Maeda fought in non-sanctioned challenge matches while visiting to the United States. For that reason he was forced to leave the Dojo and the Kodokan in 1904. Subsequently his name was removed from the Kodokan register. Maeda began to travel the world making a name for himself as a prize fighter.

  • modern judo and bjj are not the same but bjj and pre-war judo very close. If you think the brazilans changed the system so much why does it still look exactly like pre-war judo? do more research and you'll see that there is nothing new under the sun. it's not that they changed as much as judo changed and they remained the same. and I train bjj so don't bother with judo fanboy comments.

  • Like you I like Bjj practiced for last 10 years 'cause as a 4th dan judo I love ne waza (ground work). Judo in its all whole today, you have to be in Japan/ Europe , where you spend hrs on the ground.

In Bjj, they didn't teach me anything new, I was chocking bjj black belts like anybody else.Just that w/few exeptions,Judo in USA really sucks. there is the compleate expect of respect ,tradition that judo has and you will never find in Bjj.

Bjj became great for a great propaganda

  • Amen.

  • Maeda did not get beat in the US. His senior did. And he didn't travel to Brazil to "change his system." He had bigger plans that just jiu-jitsu. I will agree, thought that the Gracie family and brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners have improved upon the judo/jiu-jitsu they were taught, with the exception of throwing technique which even today are mediocre. Of course their ground fighting is exceptional.

  • @jeminijem1

    The Gracies marketed the system.

Judo has randori which continually evolves the system.

That is also in Gracie judo system. (sports points system, please note that Gracies isnt really a jujitsu combat method, born of Judo founder Kano Sensei's method.

I think most BJJ'ers know these facts but dont think about it.

  • @chchjudoschool Judo just like Sambo is fast paced. BJJ guys are excellent submission artists but come on, lets think about this...who the hell will give you time (in a street fight) to apply a De La Riva guard/sweep OR rubber guard or any other new sweeps/guards that BJJ invented, this stuff works in competition NOT on the streets. True judokas practice all types of newaza but the most important techniques are tested in competition because that stuff will actually apply in a real street fight.

  • anyway this video is very good, I must say

  • but now every judo player is like a little silly child every time there is a fight with a bjj guy, and in japan all serious players train bjj

  • yeah and the basis for Brazilian Jiu jitsu.. Ne Waza and Kosen Judo are the basis of what Maeda taught Carlos Gracie.

  • Judo the Original Grappling Art
