I think the gameplay in this game is a bit broken. It's ridiculous to assume that anyone could learn to drive on tracks that tiny at such high speeds. F-Zero GX did high speed racing much better.
Because games have a tendency of leading you by the nose with step by step instructions nowadays does not mean there should be no new games that are challenging and difficult. There is a reason why Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are popular among RPG players. Some gamers are tired of developers pandering to babies.
But if you think this is hard to race on, let me introduce you to it's older brother WipEout 2097...
Something's wrong with me, I easily managed to beat Zico, passed Zone 90, BUT I cannot win this Elite match in Chengou Project Forward!!! I've tried every cheap and quick shortcuts and going very narrowly, I'm so bad at this map...
I love you man, You've just literally earned a Platinum for me. This lame track was the only thing I needed to accomplish for Elite Campain Legend before getting the Platinum. Even beating Zico was way easier. I'd never though of taking a classic livery so that enemies would have worse stats just as well. Smart.
music is just totally awful, no proper trance or djs like paul van dyk. when wipeout 3 came out , van dyk was in his early years and yet hes a legend now. whyyy put all this adverse shit on this game
@MyRidgeRacer Forza...I would sooner play The Faces of Evil. I love my Xbox but, you are damn right. It has a shit racing selection. It only has one good exclusive racer and that's a blatant WipEout clone.
oh btw, for anyone who wants to call me a noob talking shit. ive got all the time trial and speed lap on this map elite, my time trial is average 1second better than the required time, my speed lap 2seconds better

I spent 3 hours trying to beat sebenco climb on phantom elite on the hardest difficulty, then I gave up. 1 hour later, I decided to try again. I beat it on my first try with barely some effort with + 0.8 seconds.
I just want you to know that every time I discover a new techno/trance song, or if one pops up on my playlist, I would always go to this video to watch it and listen to the song at the same time. ^_^

After that's done, go watch some videos of the same guy (HellfireWZ) who made that introduction. They are excellent as well and detail every track down to the corners and how you approach them to have a good racing line.
I don't know if you can help but in the select a vehicle(with fury) i have unlocked every vehicle apart from the very bottom ones, i don't know how to get them! Please help!
The very bottom ones are unlocked by obtaining a medal in every cell in the WipEout HD campaign of the game. Not the Fury campaign. They are the silver skins (HD Campaign skins, those used for the Bling Brigade trophy. Fury Campaign skins work too) for the HD ship models.
I may be wrong about the way they are unlocked. You'd have to double check somewhere else.
Actually if you have a PS3 you will be able to get it for free along with it's expansion WipEout HD Fury if you live in a region where the Welcome Back to PSN plan is taking place.
The offer will be available for a full month once the PlayStation Store comes back up, but the game will be yours to keep forever.

You can choose to disengage the autopilot early if you press the absorb button while it is active. You don't get any energy restoration effect while doing that however, it's just so you can regain control of your ship faster as sometimes there are problems with the autopilot not following the best racing line.

Which further proves the Elite AI is beatable to the average player. The only difficulty to the Elite AI is when they pull missiles out of nowhere. Metropia reverse was annoying for that,

Which ship are you using in this video and why are you using that ship? Have you changed the sensitivity of the accelerator and the air brakes? Your cornering seems too smooth compared with anything i manage to do, how much do you use the airbrakes and how early do you use them/hold them/tap them? Thanks in advance!
I use Goteki45 because I prefer the high thrust as it allows you to be the fastest off the start line and when recovering from crashes and weapon hits, as well as the fastest coming out of corners.
I have modified airbrake sensitivity and acceleration sensitivity to 10%. Both are now nearly like digital buttons, a slight pressure and it's 100% on. Some prefer 30% for the airbrakes.
I hold on the airbrakes for sharp turns, small taps or double taps for small turns, and use them slightly before.

Phantom is the fastest speed class in the game. You've got four speed classes and in order from the slowest to the fastest they are Venom, Flash, Rapier and Phantom.
There are also three levels of AI difficulty: Novice, Skilled, Elite.
So my title only indicates I played this at the fastest speed at the hardest difficulty.
Loyalty unlocks other ship colours. In the end you can chose different skins.
To unlock ships (vehicles), you have to play through the campaign and beat it.
nice skillz dude. i only really race in the harimau but i always have trouble on the really tight left hand turn before the horseshoe, and then the horseshoe itself is a pain - sometimes my ship is travelling forwards with the nose pointing at the sky :(

All teams are balanced in this game. It's only a matter of choosing which one you like the most.
Do you like a ship that drives like a tank? You might want to go the way of Triakis if you like this feeling of being an unstoppable force (Just watch out for weapons, because if you stop it's going to take a while to start back again)
Or do you like to be the guy that zips by everyone? Go see AG-Systems or even Icaras. However if you get shot, you're going to have a hard time restoring your shields.
I have chosen Goteki45 as it is a ship that laughs in the face of weapons. Getting shot has little impact on your overall speed (Thrust stat is 100, the best in the game.)
However, in compensation it is not as fast as other ships and not the easiest to get around corners.
Other ships provide other advantages.
For example, AG-Systems which is the closest to Goteki45 in terms of thrust, has a weaker shield so it is easier to destroy. But it's also faster and more nimble.
im probably gona get alot of hate for this but i prefer the original and not this ripoff. sure g-surfers doesnt have the best graphics or has the speed bluring effects but its still a damb bit better than this with longer tracks and a track editor to make your own. plus this has the same style of music.

No, the best ship is the one you would be most comfortable with.
Speed and shield do not matter as much when choosing your ship as do thrust and handling. These two really are the characteristics that will determine how the ship handles.
High handling means very nimble, jumpy ship. Lower means more stable, less nimble, no need to counter-steer constantly.
And then thrust helps recover faster from weapons, be faster off the line, etc.
Go to the website I link to in the description (CoLD SToRAGE's website), then in "Archives" use the Ctrl+F search function of your web browser and search for "Lost in MUSIC" (without the quotes.)
You're incredible! Perfect race, I can't do better than 2.13 with Icaras, this is the only race I don't have gold in phantom!!! I'll try and try, maybe I could do that things too with a lot of training =)
It's a pity that the first 20 of every standings are only cheater, with times lower than 20 seconds a race =(
i'm new here, a couple questions, if you don't mind.
1. are all your demos with "pilot assist off"? don't know what else can you leap off track like that? is that the only advantage? i suck at the squeaky mode, just frustrating.
2. i've seen player burst off with sonic speed right from the start, over my head? how?
3. in Sol2, i've seen people "flying" off track in the air (after 1st turn). how?
Pilot assist is actually bad to use on the higher speeds, at phantom it will have you bouncing all over the track
If you hit the accelerate button right as the words "go' appear on the startline you'll get a boost. Try waitigng until just after the last beeping noise before you go and you'll get it easy.

You press the X button (Or thrust button if you've changed your controls) right as GO appears on the screen. It's a question of timing.
If you're playing split screen I don't think boost starts are possible there. I've got the timing down fine but they don't work.

I guess you've got platinum on this game? I was close to finishing all the cells on elite but then my HDD died, back up to the 7th area on elite... not rushing it cause I'm figuring the last (all being Phantom) is gonna cause me trouble. lol

Which ship are you using in this video and why are you using that ship? Have you changed the sensitivity of the accelerator and the air brakes? Your cornering seems too smooth compared with anything i manage to do, how much do you use the airbrakes and how early do you use them/hold them/tap them? Thanks in advance!

I use Goteki45 because I prefer the high thrust as it allows you to be the fastest off the start line and when recovering from crashes and weapon hits, as well as the fastest coming out of corners.
I have modified airbrake sensitivity and acceleration sensitivity to 10%. Both are now nearly like digital buttons, a slight pressure and it's 100% on. Some prefer 30% for the airbrakes.
I hold on the airbrakes for sharp turns, small taps or double taps for small turns, and use them slightly before.

To unlock new ships you must play through the campaign(s)
The best team to use is the one you feel the most comfortable with, as no ship is better than others.
High handling = fast response, but it has quite a "jumpy" feel to it.
Low handling = more stable but requires more effort to get through hard turns.
Every ship can do every turn though, so don't worry about that.
High acceleration = faster off the start and after getting hit
Low accel = obviously slower at that but is always balanced out

I started playing WipEout five years ago with PurE on the PSP, followed by Pulse and then HD/Fury on PS3.
I also went back and played some of the older games. Overall I think I played a little of each but Fusion that was on the PS2.

I am confused, what does phantom mean? i suck at this game (cant get past moa therma on novice using ag systems) so im just wondering. Also, does the loyalty thing u get at the end of each race on ur ship matter? ANd finally xD, how do i buy other vehicles past the default 2 you get?

Phantom is the fastest speed class in the game. You've got four speed classes and in order from the slowest to the fastest they are Venom, Flash, Rapier and Phantom.
There are also three levels of AI difficulty: Novice, Skilled, Elite.
So my title only indicates I played this at the fastest speed at the hardest difficulty.
Loyalty unlocks other ship colours. In the end you can chose different skins.
To unlock ships (vehicles), you have to play through the campaign and beat it.

nice skillz dude. i only really race in the harimau but i always have trouble on the really tight left hand turn before the horseshoe, and then the horseshoe itself is a pain - sometimes my ship is travelling forwards with the nose pointing at the sky :(

This is music I added during the editing. It wasn't even the one playing when I was playing. It is not from the game, but from the website in the description. Just go to the "Archives" section on the site, and find the titles I list in the credits of the video (They are in order of appearance.)

All teams are balanced in this game. It's only a matter of choosing which one you like the most.
Do you like a ship that drives like a tank? You might want to go the way of Triakis if you like this feeling of being an unstoppable force (Just watch out for weapons, because if you stop it's going to take a while to start back again)
Or do you like to be the guy that zips by everyone? Go see AG-Systems or even Icaras. However if you get shot, you're going to have a hard time restoring your shields.

I have chosen Goteki45 as it is a ship that laughs in the face of weapons. Getting shot has little impact on your overall speed (Thrust stat is 100, the best in the game.)
However, in compensation it is not as fast as other ships and not the easiest to get around corners.
Other ships provide other advantages.
For example, AG-Systems which is the closest to Goteki45 in terms of thrust, has a weaker shield so it is easier to destroy. But it's also faster and more nimble.

im probably gona get alot of hate for this but i prefer the original and not this ripoff. sure g-surfers doesnt have the best graphics or has the speed bluring effects but its still a damb bit better than this with longer tracks and a track editor to make your own. plus this has the same style of music.

No, the best ship is the one you would be most comfortable with.
Speed and shield do not matter as much when choosing your ship as do thrust and handling. These two really are the characteristics that will determine how the ship handles.
High handling means very nimble, jumpy ship. Lower means more stable, less nimble, no need to counter-steer constantly.
And then thrust helps recover faster from weapons, be faster off the line, etc.

You're incredible! Perfect race, I can't do better than 2.13 with Icaras, this is the only race I don't have gold in phantom!!! I'll try and try, maybe I could do that things too with a lot of training =)
It's a pity that the first 20 of every standings are only cheater, with times lower than 20 seconds a race =(

i'm new here, a couple questions, if you don't mind.
1. are all your demos with "pilot assist off"? don't know what else can you leap off track like that? is that the only advantage? i suck at the squeaky mode, just frustrating.
2. i've seen player burst off with sonic speed right from the start, over my head? how?
3. in Sol2, i've seen people "flying" off track in the air (after 1st turn). how?

Pilot assist is actually bad to use on the higher speeds, at phantom it will have you bouncing all over the track
If you hit the accelerate button right as the words "go' appear on the startline you'll get a boost. Try waitigng until just after the last beeping noise before you go and you'll get it easy.
