love Love LOVED it!! Girl you are awesome!! You should be PROUD of your self!! A solo song is hard to sign, and a duet is even harder!! And this song, you did PERFECT!! Keep up the great work!!
that was the best ive ever seen it signed... im actually doing this song for my asl class as a project and i might do your version.. i really liked it :)
Like others have said not bad for learning it in such short time. Some have said this is PSE but quite frankly it's pretty straight Enlish. There's nothing wrong with signing a song in signed English but it's not REALLY ASL. You have good facial expression and good musicality so I'm sure with practice and more knowledge of ASL you'll be able to do a true ASL version and knock it out of the park.
In the meantime there are a few things you could do to make it conceptually more accurate...
(realizing you posted this some time ago you probabl already learned alot more)
anyway the sign for too late that you are using is actually the sign for later the correct sign would be the one where your fingers all point down and you wave it back (also glossed at late or not yet), another suggestion instead of something is not same can sign something different-a little easier and more clear :) keep up good work
Very nice, however I agree with some of the other commentary. Facial expression is EVERYTHING in ASL (act for goodness sakes!) and you've done more PSE than ASL. (Which is rather easy to do when you are signing music.) and one more thing... the toe tapping that moves your whole body? Loose it, it distracts HIGHLY from the message you are trying to get across.
For having learned and performed it in a few days though... good work!
This is really great! I don't know much about ASL but this looks so good. I love how you really performed it, you didn't just sign it, you were the characters. amazing!
I am so jealous of the way you sign things. They are so smooth ;o; . I feel like when I sign that my movements are choppy and that they're blockish. Like I was signing wearing gloves. Grah, jealousy eats my /soul/.
And your role shifting was very clear, even when you brought in the 'others'. "Get her" was awesome. I dunno, it just stuck out to me.
How long have you been doing ASL?
I loved the preformance. I wish I had thought of doing something like that for my school's talent show.
i really love this song, maybe you should try signing a creative interpretation of this song rather than a pidgin verson of it. Yes it is a frozen text, but you can play with it and be more creative so it can be more ASL rather than signed english. I still enjoyed watching the work you put into it. :)
I do sign in pigeon (not LIKE a pigeon lol): cuz I signed exactly the words to the song minus words like "is, the, to" instead of ASL Form in which u do concepts or translations and sign the meaning of the song and not word for word and also signed in this special form like "object subject verb question" lol idk some ppl do it that way :) I've started doing more conceptual stuff now, I still don't do the asl form though, but this video was from last year.. :)
im just learning asl and i really want to interpret on Broadway or some broadway type show,. i know chances are me doing it is slim but i love broadway and ASL. For class we obviously have to choose a song to sign and i really wanted to do this one. i was skeptical becuase it is a duet, but you made me feel like i can do it alone and pull it off :) your amazing by the way. you have such great flow when you sign :) congrats
believe in yourself! my friend actually went to Rochester Institute of Technology in NY specifically to be an interpreter for Broadway so I suggest you go for it, I don't think your chances are slim ^_^ Duets you just have to turn a different way for each person talking and then to the middle when they're together, it's not too bad- go for it! & Don't forget facial expressions! :D let me know what u end up doing. & Thanks for the compliment :)
your amazing....the way you get into the way you sign is amazing....you show so much feeling and emotion. That makes the best Interpreter...please do more your fabulous
omg!! that was beautiful! i love how you sign. its so clear and graceful. truely beautiful! hav you ever thought of becuming an interpereter? well you shuld think about it. God Bless! keep those hands signing!
I was asked at first to just be an opening act and not be in the competition part and even though I was POed at that I was like w/e and picked this song and then at rehersal they told me I could be in the comp. if I wanted but that the limit is 5min. so I'd have to pick a new song (well!)I really wanted to do this song and since they told me this like a day b4 the show, I was just like w/e and stayed as the opening act..so w/e I have plenty of medals from other asl competitions lol^_^
Not bad! I'm an interpreter and I would LOVE to have the opportunity to interpret this song! I don't know whether or not I would be able to keep myself from crying though..LOL! Anyhow, there are a couple of suggestions I would make for changes, but I won't bore you with them unless you want me to, so let me know! Over all, good job!
I know I messed up a few times like I didn't do the sign for "ambition" and I did "bed" instead of "sleep" and I should have done a different sign for "feed" b/c that wasn't the feed the song was talking about...and I probably sign too many of the words or I just sign the lyrics instead of the meanings of the words...anything else lol? I don't mind the critiques :)
Every1 has their own styles & that's fine.I'm not Ms.ASL.I'm more PSE, so I tend 2 be more conceptual, but sometimes going word for word isn't bad.I know that people have mentioned the "sleep"/"bed" thing,so there's no need 2 mention that again."Bring me down" I suggest something like "oppress".I LOVE how you did "Defying Gravity".For a literal translation, it works perfectly. For "ambition" I would sign "goal".I think that you have great potential & have the PERFECT hands for it.
-(first comment) thank you :D and yea there is another sign for sleep and that one is shown for bed in the dictionary but I think that sign can be used for either cuz it's a natural sign for sleeping lol :)
-(second comment) that sign is to just show that there is music playing w/ no words- it's the sign for music and usually you do it w/ the beat of the song
My teacher is hearing and she is a certified interpreter and did that for a little while and then some how got into teaching (don't know why, she makes a whole lot more money interpreting lol)
Really cool!

well, i'm hard of hearing, and my opinion is u got the every word right. So it seems fine to me lol

The word is "pidgin" not "pigeon". Pidgin means "a simplified version of a language".
