@sonicfreak04 Perhaps. There used to be a tutorial on the Bowstick Archery web page, but it looks like it's been removed. Maybe you could find a cached copy or use the Way Back Machine.
@legolasgreenleaff I don't know, but since lemon wood has been used to make English longbows, I'm sure it would work with the Lothlorien bow, too. I'm sorry, but I don't know where there are any blue prints or specifications.
Hi there! I love the bow, you did a great job! I'm trying to make Susan's bow from the Chronicles of Narnia, and wanted to know if you have any tips on how to make it, since it's similar to the Lothlorien bow. Thanks for your time :)
@TardieOne I've never tried it, but if I were going to try it, I think I would want to use hickory and/or bamboo since they are so difficult to break, and Susan's bow seems to have an enormous amount of stress on the limbs. I'd also make it a light weight bow.
@philochristos Wow that was fast! Haha thank you, I think I will, because I'm afraid of putting a lot of time into making something like that and having it snap on me. Thanks again!
@0Punkprincess I used a piece of pecan. The leaf designs are made from apoxy sculpt I got from bowstick archery, which doesn't seem to exist anymore. There was a tutorial showing how to use the apoxy sculpt on the web page, too, that doesn't seem to exist anymore. Sorry.
Nu! The design is very positive and elegant but I must need to shoot the arrows fast! >:o I need the bows and arrows to shoot faster at the desired target so that I can sucessfully run away from home and build my Odissian Army! Unste bek Naz!
Very very very nice. You did amazing work with the bow and the sculpting was impressive. My only suggestion is maybe trade in that block for a Rinehart Rhinoblock. Best investment I ever made in a target. Lasts way longer.
@randomnessssssful I don't have time to make custom bows, but if you'll look at my subscriptions, and click on "bowstick archery" he might be able to make one for you. I got the idea from him in the first place, so he's the expert.
@legolas5802 I took a pecan board 1/2" thick, let one edge be the back, which was flat, and drew the shape of the belly. Then I cut it out with a bandsaw. Then I glue chunks of pecan on the tips, drew the shape of the tips, and cut that out with a bandsaw. Then I rounded the belly with a belt sander and files, and I narrowed the tips and cut string grooves. Then I tillered the bow, mostly taking wood off the back, which was easier because of the shape of the belly.
damn... i've been wanting to make a real bow for the longest time.. but i dont have the supplies i need i cant drive.. anyways your bow is pretty epically beautiful. lucky daughter..
Great looking bow. Fast to for the size. I bet Grace was a very happy young lady. Did the sculpt cause any hand shock on the bow? Fantastic job, building one for my two kids now.
The bow is only about #15, so you can't feel much hand shock. I think the weight of the tips without the apoxie scupt contributes to the hand shock more than the apoxie sculpt does.
And if you search Lothlorien bow it comes up at a website called Northside collectibles for 299, do you think that is too much for this bow or what is your say?
Nice bow dude. i was wondering I have a bamboo bow is that a good bow? and are you suppose to shoot of your knukle on your index finger or is it ok if i shoot off my thumb knukle, because when i try to shoot off my index knukle i am not all that accuret but on the thumb i am awesome at accuacy. please reply what i should do.
Looks awesome. I am an archer myself, but I am a recurve shooter. If bows like the one you made or other LotR like bows weren't so expensive, I would switch to Longbow or woodbow class. By the way, what arrows did you shoot in this vid? At 0:35 they look like aluminium-shaft arrows. It is better to shoot wooden arrows with a wooden bow, and 'modern' arrows with a 'modern' bow.
Have you ever made a bow before? If not, you might want to start by googling "red oak board bow" and find the build-along by Sam Harper. As far as the leaf design, Justin, at bowstick archery, has a tutorial on his web page. You can find that with google, too.
I didn't bend them. I just glued a piece of pecan to the back of the limb, drew my design on it, and cut it out with a band saw. Then I used a belt sander and files to shape it. They are basically just big tip overlays. The little bump on the belly makes it look like a big siyah, but that's just an optical illusion.
how did she like it? and how is she. LOTR is awesome i am actually trying to work out making the Mirkwood bow. then once i get that done i would love to do the Lothlerien

If it's fast and doesn't make a lot of noise, then it's a good bow. You should shoot it off of whatever you're most accurate with.
